What's going on with Campbell?

Campbell isn’t lazy, he’s not overweight and he certainly is ‘trying’. What we’re seeing is the exact same Tyreece Campbell we saw last season. This is just the way he plays. He’s never has been a ‘close everyone down’ type forward but one that will make smart runs to create a bit of space.

To put it into a bit of perspective, this is Campbells shot stats from last season. He averaged 2 shots per game with a shot conversion rate of 30%.

Compare that to this season. He’s taking a similar number of shorts per 90, but his conversion rate (and accuracy) is half of last season. Everything he’s doing now is basically the same except hitting the target. That isn’t a lack of ‘trying’ or being overweight or lazy - it’s just not happened for him this season… yet.

IMO if TC continues as is, he will get goals. We saw how deadly a finisher he can be and I haven’t seen anything to suggest he’s somehow lost that over the course of a summer.

Another cameo where he doesn't look like he can be arsed.

Does he believe his own hype?
Is he playing with an injury?
Is he fat and unfit?
Or is he just a lazy bastard?

This isn't the same player who dragged us through games last season. He's now 4th choice for me.

A great performance for 70 mins, but as soon as we brought Campbell on and Bamford wasn't an option upfront we looked a bit lost. I like Campbell but I must admit it wouldn't take much for me to consider selling him this month.
All of the above...... unfortunately

If it’s common knowledge within the club that Campbell is carrying an injury…Why not be open about it with the fans.
It’s sad to see him (and Gus) go from hero to zero so quickly

Yeah, let's give every opposition team information they don't have right now, fantastic idea

If he’s not fit he shouldn’t be playing at all…When he’s on the pitch the drop off is there for all to see.

It depends what you define as “fit”. We have several players playing with injuries and having to manage pain in every match, as do all clubs. I remember Jack O’Connell saying that he had not played without pain since he was 18.

Yes, but it never affected O’Connell’s performances.

Campbell, Hamer and Brooks are all negotiating new contracts
The fact that Campbell has been dropped to the bench could well be a wake up call that he ain’t worth what he thinks
Would not surprise me to see him and Hamer leave

If he’s injured why bring him on for 30 minutes when we’re comfortably winning 2-0 against a poor Leicester team? Why not bring Ings on instead?

It seems to be a really strange decision to play him injured under those circumstances.

Or as Coolblade presented from the actual statistics.

Second Half: We turned control into goals: Second half xG: 1.49 vs 0.13, shots 6 vs 5, shots on target 2 vs 1. Special call out for Arblaster’s pass for the third, which doesn’t count as an assist. Subs worked: Campbell stretched them, Hamer added control, Chong and Arblaster turned clearances into keep ball, Burrows locked the left.

Yes Leicester turned up the pressure after going three down, but there's the problem with a game of football. it involves two teams.
Had Leicester played with the intensity of their last twenty minutes for the full 90 I suspect we may not have scored 3.

But we now need a scape goat for not having scored 4.

He's better than Ings really.

I could understand it pre Bamford and Ings, but we have options now, especially with Cannon contributing.

Must be carrying an injury the bloke can’t move
Whats he doing on the bench if hes as handicapped as you suggest.
His .main contribution is scoring goals which he isnt at present ! Do we keep him in the squad or drop him.! Keep him in the squad at present in my opinion.

He's just out of form ffs. Not every player having a poor run needs to be written off or over analysed.

Ordinarily is agree with you, but then there's the below.
He was with Stoke 5/6 seasons and they forewarned us that this might be the real Campbell.

He needs to prove last season wasn't a flash in the pan.

I appreciate the stats above suggesting his output is there or thereabouts but the eye test says different.
He isn't a threat, he doesn't stretch the play, he doesn't run channels, he looks really lethargic. It isn't the same player.

He's got it in his locker to be so much better, maybe it's just a confidence thing, but good strikers make their own luck.

He looks a lot more like the Campbell that Stoke fans warned us about. Never been the most mobile of forwards but he’s been absolutely shocking this season.

What advantage would our opponents gain from knowing that Campbell is carrying an injury?

It’s not going to change their team selection and we’re past the era where players try to deliberately injury the opposition.

he doesn't stretch the play,

He did, as Leicester had us pegged back.

The full equation also involves resting Bamford and Cannon for the Oxford game after only 2 days rest.

Personally I'm happy for Wilder to judge who is best to play and for how long, that's his job.

A forum which doesn't know if

He's injured.
His agent wants more money for him.
He's put on a stone in weight.
He's lost interest.

Is the reason that the forum doesn't choose the team.

A constant feature of Blades fans is the inevitable slagging off of our players who have a dip in form. It pisses me off a bit if I’m honest.

Impressive presentation but bottom line his scoring ratio per games played isn’t impressive
