Why doesn't he play in the centre of midfield? He's got the eye for a pass, he's a aggresive player so can rough up the opposition and he had a quality season with Stoke the year before we signed him.

He must be a total arsehole on the training ground thats all i can say.

Mr Dingle boy must bring blackwell an apple every day!

I don't understand this either. Whenever he gets a chance - take the away game against Hull last season - he plays well and gives us that bit of quality in the middle.
I know he's suspended at the moment but I would love to see him given a long run in the team alongside Monty.
Quinn hasn't had a decent game in a long long time and is an absolute mystery as to how he keeps getting a game week in week out.

I like Hendrie and think if he was given a chance for a while it would work with him and Monty in the middle.

Anyone is better than Howard or Quinn.

Hendrie's had a number of chances and never taken any of them. One of many who manages to become a fans' favourite based on nothing other than appearing enthusiastic and not being in the team when we're poor.

Moving him on is probably key to bringing some proper players in

If Hendrie hadn't got himself sent off at Wembley he'd be in the side. He did well in pre season and Blackwell needs to give him a 'proper chance'. The chances Cooperblade refers to were nearly all 10-20 min cameo sub appearances. He's here for the duration of his contract as there is no chance of anyone paying him what we are so we may as well use him.

I'd like to see him start a game, on a few occasions where he has came on as sub late on he has managed to change the game, he is the type of player who is able to put his foot on the ball and make a pass which is what we need.

Are you confused about his exclusion so far? He's got a 4 game ban for getting sent off twice last season. I guess that's what he's done wrong.

No, i'm not confused you tit. I know he's suspended but when he's not he never starts a game. He needs an extended run AND should've been given one last season instead of coming on late on in games

P.S I also agree with Robbie on both the following points:

That's a very strong claim, and one I believe to be erroneous.

Elaborate on a 'number of chances'

What chance has he been given? A loan to Blackpool?

I must have missed these games where he's had a significant bearing on the outcome. I'd like to see him given a chance based on what I know he's capable of, but I really can't remember any game that he's 'changed.'

His attitude's all wrong for me... He got sent off after the match for gobbing off (doing a Drogba)! Thats why he got the 4 game ban.

I don't want players like that at United, unfortunately nobody else does either thats why we can't sell him

He's got some talent somewhere (hidden deep)... just never shown it with us

He is clealry our best creative (I use this word loosely when refering to us) midfielder and it is a joke that people like Quinn get picked before him.

he should be straight back in after his suspension and given a run in the side.

I think the midfielder we are all craving has been here all along - he has just been ignored.

Hendry has never really been given a run in the side - even under Robson - and in the games he's had he's often been out on the wing. It's only a suspicion (based on little other than sculilous rumour and the bust up at Carrow Road last season!) but I wonder if stuff goes on in training that kept him from becoming a first team regular for so long. What ever the reasons, I'd be surprised if Hendry becomes the right player to sit alongside Monty - more likely to be Williamson, or possibly France or Little.

I have seen him come on a few times and the tempo of the game has changed, which is why I can't understand why he cant get a start.

I agree with that, in my eyes he hasn't been given a proper chance yet.

He's played in 17 games, we're not talking about someone who has never been involved. Yes a lot of those have been from the bench but when he comes on, he runs around a lot, flaps his arms but doesn't seem to ever get on the ball and dictate the tempo.

He's the new Bruno Ribeiro.

To be fair, 17 games in 2 seasons isn't really a big chance. Especially without a consistent run of starts in the side.

It's enough chance to show something though, we've seen nothing from him

Away at Wolves the first season back in the Championship we played Speed and Hendrie in central midfield. We weren't world beaters but what an utter joy to see two guys who clearly knew what they were doing in central mid and had the ability to do it. The pairing didn't get a chance to develop. I can't remember now what happened (Hendrie injury??) but the fact that I can still readily recall this today indicates to me the utter dross we have had to put up with in central mid since and indeed since 2002.

This problem is central to my view of Blackwell, rationally it's difficult to be too critical of him, we have won a lot more than we have lost since he took over and we, in true Blades style, have been bloody unlucky as well. We've been solid but we haven't played with much panache and quite frankly I don't think he would recognise a central mid player if one smacked him in the face. So yes, play Hendrie as soon as his ban finishes. With what we have at the moment this would be the sort of thing I would like to see tried.

Bunn

Walker Morgan Killa Taylor/Carney

Monty

Little/Cotterill Hendrie Reid

Evans Ward

As soon as Naysmith is recovered I would see him back in at left back and the remaining big question is whether to play the front pair or whether we need Henderson up top. I would love to think we could win based on skill, pace, movement and passing from the front five and this layout seems to me the best way of trying to find out if we can.

There always has been a player at the club who rate and some slate. Hendie more than anyone splits decisions amongst supporters.
The chances of off loading him based on his wages is nil - particularly as he doesn't play enough matcheds for whatever reason
Its simply a case of "would he improve our current midfield?" and the only answer is possibly on the side of probably . If he does and his pixie features still dont fit we've still got a chance of offloading him

Not much to lose IMO.

Its fair to say that Hendrie's stamina is his biggest let down along with his inability to mix it with the more physical midfielders in the division. I don't think anyone doubts his undoubted abilty to pick a pass and see openings quickly but unfortunately that isn't enough to warrant a start and do a 90 minute stint.
His temperament is somewhat suspect too as has been proven on several occasions already.
I'd say more disadvantages than positives in his all round game, but I wouldn't be disappointed if Blackie gave him a nother go in midfield.

Well i'll get him to apologise for letting his frustration out in one of the biggest games he's ever played, probably he biggest he's ever lost! This is the sort of player that we need - Passionate. By the sounds of it he was the only one that was bothered about losing that day. Everybody else got their paycheque and went on holiday, apart from maybe Morgan & Monty who wold die for the cause.

I would say his 'passion' that is mentioned is more like 'petulance'. Just because others are under performing it doesnt mean Lee Hendrie is the answer, we need to look elsewhere. Whenever he comes on from the bench it smacks of desperation to me.
He hasnt been given a chance because he doesnt deserve one.... the only reason he is still with us is because nobody else wants him!

he needs a chance to start a game, coming on late in a game running about like a loony is not a fair chance, he's not my favourite but he is a classier, more intelligent player than the tiny ginner. Blackwell has always stated if a player isn't performing then he will drop them, he doesn't though does he!!!

I always thought Hendrie had something to offer but most fans were happy to see him go on loan (worse than Quinn etc.). When he came back he did have one game where Blackwell declared he thought he had found a new player - but then he got injured and has never reproduced that performance on the field. His current status is first reserve behind Howard and Quinn, so unless there are injuries, poor results and no new bodies, we are not likely to see him in a starting role.

I'm completely bemused by him and his treatment by the club to be honest.

Here is a player who was judged good enough to play for England. He arrives with us completely unfit and injured and, like everyone under Robson, stayed that way.
Given that the whole squad is fitter now he surely must be worth a real chance to start again.

If he isn't a better footballer than Quinn, Howard and Monty combined then how the hell has he manged a career at Aston Villa?
