What happened to those who questioned the Prince's commitment?

Strange to hear McCabe on radio pig this morning saying one of the reasons for sacking Clough was that he had OVERspent on players, make of that what you will. Did he overspend throughout the season or just on Brayford in the JTW or was the overspend just on wages ?

To pick up on McCabe's comment about Clough, if overspending was one of the reasons to sack Clough I wonder what the others were?

btw. I don't think significant amounts would be needed to be classed as an overspend on that shower of shit. :D

Overspend usually only comes into play if the funder ( McCabe and Prince ) are of the opinion they have have not had-

Value for money.

Added value .

(Players overall asset worth , are not a investment , but could turn out to be a loss ,on the open transfer market )

The Clough brothers unfortunately failed on both fronts, when it came to overall player recruitment . I do not believe that the Clough remit , was to be self financing , as with previous managers .It comes to a point , were the board may have thought any more recruitment by Clough , would not be financially viable , which has to be one of the factors he was sacked.

I am sure the Butler , Collins situation did not help matters.

As I recall ins and outs under Clough were as follows:

IN

Alcock
Harris
Brayford (loan)
Brayford (permanent)
Butler
Basham
J. Wallace
Scougall
McNulty
Done
B. Davies (loan)
B. Davies (permanent)
McGahey
Paynter (loan)
Coutts
McEveley
Campbell-Ryce
Higdon
Turner
McCarthy (loan)
Freeman (loan)
Freeman (permanent)
Adams
O'Grady (loan)
S. Davies (loan)
K. Wallace
Holt (loan)
OUT

Westlake
Williams
Maguire
Butler
Hill
Porter
Taylor
Miller
McGinn
Coady (loan ended)
King
Brandy
Lappin (loan ended)
McGinty
Ironside
Whitehouse
McMahon
Johns

That's 24 different players in (20 permanently) and 18 out (16 of whom were permanent. I believe we only got fees for Taylor and Maguire and I think the wages of the ins would significantly exceed the wages of the outs. Given that over the last few years players sales have used to fund the running of the club, the fact that there was most likely a significant net loss on player costs does indeed show a funding commitment by the Board

The average attendance increased by 2300 fans per game this season just gone.
Based on 23 games at let’s say an average of £15 per game. That’s £800,00 extra income this season.
Plus associated increases in hospitality, catering, merchandising income etc

Plus the FA Cup Semi Final last season brought in about £1M which has apparently funded the new pitch.
Plus the League Cup Semi Final run this season including income from 2 televised matches
Plus the Play-Off Semi final and income from another 2 televised matches.
Plus the prize money and gate receipts from reaching the 5th Round of the FA Cup this season.

Not that surprising that Clough was allowed to sign 4 extra permanent players and a few short-term loanees in the 18 months he was here.
The increased turnover he generated last season will have given him extra leeway on wages under the SCMP rules and likewise for Adkins benefit next season.
