Edwards comment was a joke, a bit of fun directed at a woman who invaded the pitch so that she could verbally assault a football manager...........for some reason that seems ok.

The problem has been stirred up by a woman who's football team lost, If the Wednesday equivalent of Edwards on the radio that day had said it she wouldn't have complained

That's because I don't think for one moment that they actually do think all men are useless - in the same way that I don't think for one moment Edwards thinks that all women should be home cooking tea.

For heaven's sake, society needs to lighten up a bit! I grew up in an era where it was commonly the woman's role to be home being a wife and mother, doing the domestic chores and raising a family. There was nothing wrong with that at all, just like there's nothing wrong with women who want to pursue a career. It's down to circumstances and personal choice.

It's a sad day when we can't poke a bit of fun at each other without it being taken the wrong way.

Of course. A joke has to be something that isn't correct, or is illogical, or surprises you with the twist, etc. There is no humour in stating the truth or repeating how things are supposed to be. PC has already seen a massive decline in humour on television - humour that's funny, I should say, there are no end of PC comedians. Naturally the skill of humour is getting it right, timing, not overstepping the line, right time right place, but we seem to have entered the era of "easily offended" and that's just, well, not funny.

As we're on sexism, I've just seen the macmillan advert - which basically says "you are a woman, you can bake a cake, your female friend can bake a cake, you will have a male boss, your male boss cannot bake a cake and will buy one from a shop" - which is astonishing really, because every other TV advert says women are competent, capable, intelligent, in control, head of the household, married to useless, foolish, laughable men whose children laugh at him.

Firstly, it was an 'old man' comment. Crass and not really appropriate for the modern world but not meant with any malice.

But, I used to work for a woman. She recently retired. I know how hard she had to work to get where she was and how much shit she had to put up with from blokes in the 70s, 80s etc which included snide little jokes like 'she should be at home cooking her husband's dinner'. What Keith said didn't particularly offend me but I can see quite easily why my ex-boss, and thousands of other women that have had to deal with inequality on a daily basis, could find it offensive.

I doubt what Edwards said was particularly serious (if it was he's clearly stuck in the era when he first got into our first team) but even so he could just simply say 'I wasn't being serious but if anyone was offended I apologise'.
