I couldn't go today as i couldn't go so wasn't there couldn't watch a stream either as the internet isnt invented yet where i used to live or where i currently live just watched the highlights and that one handed save by Wes was incredibly amazing some think we need a new keeper bollox i say he's more than good enough if not better than that ive left out any punctuation because things read better without it thanks up the Blades.
Said it before Fodders is the least of our problems

He's a good shot stopper, but is always prone to an error. However the biggest issue is with his feet. With the ball at his feet we almost always concede possession, often from a throw in after he's hoofed it out of play, or with an opposition player. Most PL keepers play almost like a sweeper, ball goes back to them, they switch it out to the other wing back etc, retaining possession, building again. It goes back to Wes and we're invariably giving it away. It's a big issue, particularly when we tend not to have the majority of the ball to begin with.

Nailed it.

He should be a very good deputy keeper but he isn't PL class. Over a season it will cost us. Compare him to say Dean Henderson who probably gained us 12 points and his ability to help the team keep possession by playing it out with his feet from the back and by playing the sweeper role and it's a massive (@the Pigs) difference at this level.

Agree and also to add to that, he's so slow and ponderous. Often slowing a counter attack or general play down, when there is an obvious ball out to a free man, he let's the opposition get settled back in far too often (of course this could be what he's instructed to do) but to see a pass on early and he doesn't opt for it, instead boots it long and often a shit kick is frustrating.

A lot of counter attacks from the better teams in this league often start with a quick inch perfect ball from the keeper.

There were a couple of instances on Sat where he made saves but left the ball in dangerous areas. One led to a goal.
He just needs to push it round the post for a corner, not back into play.
It's just slack standards and daft decisions. Poor concentration or whatever.
I like Wes a lot, but he needs to sharpen up!

It seems very odd timing and a little numb given it’s all over the Press that we are actively seeking his replacement!

Feels a little awkward.

Four errors of judgement or execution have added to us losing games. But here’s a handful of saves from less recent games…

You’re still thinking about those errors, aren’t you? 😬

Bit like telling your girlfriends Mum and Dad how lovely their daughter is and dumping her the next day....

As for Wes, I spoke to a client of mine yesterday who is a huge Rangers fan, he was gobsmacked we signed him in the Championship as in his opinion he was nowhere near Scottish Premiership standard...

He's a decent shot stopper but that's about it

He'd have an heart attack when he realises we signed him in the Premier League, as a 2nd/3rd choice keeper.

He's been quality for us, whatever some Rangers fan thinks.

Signed him for nowt as a backup. Sold our 1st choice for a huge fee, he comes in and is a solid part of the most successful team we've ever had in the Championship. Out of his depth in the PL like the rest of our squad and has hit a bad patch of form.

Compare that to players we've signed with the idea that they can start in the PL...

I don't get the big difference between Wes and the Rotherham keeper , He looks terrible on crosses just like Wes .

Sorry pal but I’ve got to disagree with you there. Wes’s form has deteriorated to such a degree that he’s costing us at least a goal a game at the minute. Not only that but this then reverberates in to our defence who find themselves making unnecessary decisions because of their lack of confidence in him. It’s only my opinion but I think a replacement keeper is, or should be our number 1 priority. Championship level maybe PL - not in a million years.

Decent argument and well put, but do you not think he should be given the opportunity to correct his form? He wasn't giving away goals in the first lot of games this season, and has been solid in the Champ.

Either way I agree though, if we can get a PL keeper in and the finances allow it then why not upgrade?

i dont like anger towards wes, because he is lacking in PL, which is a shame because we have learnt that you have to be more than good shot stopper & you need to be more of an all rounder but we cant forget. he has been vital for us to get to Premier league. i always feel we dont make playoffs v notts forest without him, he won at least 10pts that season. i remember that blackburn penalty save which was huge turning point

And he has probably cost us 10 points this season....

i dont see how can say he has cost us 100%, even in the villa & luton game. you could blame Trusty for losing his marker, & the dreadful defensive capitulation v luton

You could blame my Missus for not washing my lucky pants but she didn't let one go through her legs at the near post....

Social media team celebrating the fact he's played 100 games for us and that's a decent achievement?
I think 100 appearances is an achievement. Only others I can see in my lifetime making 100 have been Tracey, Kelly, Paddy and Long (yes I know!).
Wes has been poor recently but you don’t make 100 appearances for a Championship/ Prem club without putting in some decent performances

yes 1 is his fault. but then we go 2-1 up. 2 & 3 isnt his fault. wes isnt telling his centre backs to go & give was it barkley all the time in the world around the 6 yd box to pick out a pass

He's never been good with his feet, never looked commanding and always had a daft mistake in him but he's been brilliant for us, genuinely. He's made some outstanding saves, got us out of jail numerous times and won us plenty of points. He's also come across as a great bloke and you get the impression he's a decent character in the dressing room.

But he's never quite convinced, and now in the Premier League, he's been found out a bit (or quite a lot). Other sides realise how much he struggles on the ball, how much he struggles with crosses, how often he gets beaten at his near post and strangely this season his positioning's also been shown up when regularly he's been caught flatfooted and beaten without a dive. He's still made some great saves but he's had plenty of bloody opportunity to!!

No anger or criticism from me towards him and I don't think there should be from anyone- he's done great for us but he's not Prem standard and if we're honest he was probably punching a bit above his weight (because of how well he was performing) at the top of the Championship too.

I don’t think we’ve got the time to do that mate. If we are to stand any chance despite how slender it may be of staying up we need to make an immediate change.

He was a liability in those early games and shown to be out of his depth shot stopping stats maybe pretty good but the rest of his game and decision making was awful - there are lots of good shot stopper in the football league all the way down to League 2

Arguable that Villa plus at least the second against Luton were at least partly his fault.

Our defence obviously has zero confidence in Wes, you can tell that just by watching how deep they defend.....no Premier League team should constantly have to retreat to their 6 yard box to defend.

It's not just that, his decision making and distribution are woefully slow and poor, how many times have we seen someone in acres of space yet Wes fannies about until the opposition are back in position then boots long to Oli Mac only for us to be under pressure again within seconds.

Just not anywhere near good enough, simple as that.

thats because our defence were too scared to pass forward. & so kept taking the easy option of passing back to goalkeeper
