to get players in with the current emphasis on free/cheap and short contracts.

We've clearly got no money, either for wages or fees. We're clearly reliant on Wilder's little black book and still not brought a chief scout in.

Missing out on 2 striker targets this weeks shows us how difficult it's going to be.

Players around 30 are going to be looking for longer contracts. Also, first team football. The same goes for loan players. We're only going to get good ones if they're likely to start.

Personally, I think we need to be investing in younger players. From an economics point of view we're likely to get re-sale value on them, so done well we shouldn't lose money overall. The whole farce with the chief scout sums up our issues. We need someone with great knowledge. We're relying on the obvious, which other clubs know as well. We can't offer more generous deals on these.

We need to appoint Paul Mitchell on Monday. We need to spend money on fees getting players in who are likely to improve. We need to be looking at lower divisions and snapping up those with reasonable wage demands. We need to get 2 experienced CBs in (Beevers should be one) before the end of June. We need to then look to loan in the missing positions.

It's becoming increasingly worrying. We're currently being out-manoeuvred.

Robbie out manoeuvred by who - Charlton .

Russell Slade is a good guy and manager , but like our Mr Adkins is past his sell by date . If I remember Orient were 9 points clear at one time , but finished up in the play off final against Rotherham .( goal from Revell making him a wanted player ) .

Charlton will fall apart , we have just got to back Wilder and wait and see . Nothing yet to worry me and this scout top man bloke will come , but he ain't a member of the magic circle.

We need players just to get us out of this league 1 . It's the players on the transfer list which is the biggest worry in that no bugger wants them even for free , due to there wages .

In the same way I was told Wigan would fall apart?

The problem is that we can;t just sign players for one season in our position because other clubs offer longer deals. The point I was trying to make is that we need to start looking at different kinds of players. Ones that will cost us more but will have a re-sale value.

(Beevers should be one)

Why should Beevers be one Robbie? He's not really going to be very useful for us when we're looking to be competitive once we're back in the Championship, so he wouldn't really be a signing for the future or long term anyway. Granted not all players we sign while still in L1 will be for the long term, some we just need to sign to help us get out of this division but when it comes to the CBs, ideally they need to be good enough for the Championship once we get there as they're important positions that haven't been rectified since we sold Harry.

As for missing out on the striker targets, its not exactly the priority for us is it? We've already got Sharp who is a goalscorer and still scored plenty in a team last season that was probably the worst in our modern history.

We've signed two players and neither will be good enough for the Championship. We can't afford to sign these kind of players, or more accurately, we don't have the scouts to find them.

Personally, I think Beevers would be adequate cover in the league above.

I'll put your outburst towards me the other day on hold for a moment.

Spot on that. Surprise surprise we're behind our competitors already.

We were warned about these next two transfer windows by Jim Phipps, remember him? the bloke they pushed out for telling us the truth.

It looks like a season of consolidation to me. Hopefully.

Can you imagine all the threads on here after Charlton away!!!!!
A few thousand going to Charlton!!!!
Can't wait!!!!!

You Sir,along with that attention seeking wanker Barnpot are a pair of fucking idiots

The players are a week Away from returning to pre season training and you are slashing your wrists.

Oh fuck off, whoever you are.

in the cold light of day we are a week away from preseason and STILL have no CB's

Specifically, we have been in need of centre backs for a month shy of 2 years.

It's not even a joke any more, it went way beyond that a year ago.
But to be fair to Wilder he has only been here two minutes, I feel like everyone else, I want to see some action and be excited, but I am not in the football business and have to have faith in our new manager doing what is necessary over the next few days/weeks, lets have a little bit of faith.

Don't forget we are in need of the biggest rebuild out of the entire division. I just can't see us spending the required wages/fees to be able to get in those players to the standard they're going to need to be at. The quotes about the budget made the way, we've already seen evidence of trying to do it on the cheap and taking things from one extreme to another with regards to wages and missing out on some of the leagues top players as a result. Everything is pointing to the fact that we are not going to do what's required.

Anyone else of the opinion that perhaps this thread is a tad premature?

Only last night Wilder said he expects things to start hotting up over the weekend and into next week

Why not hold back (I know it's difficult because of past experiences) but at least give the man a fkin chance. He's only been here a few weeks ffs

Unfortunately for me I trust our manager to do the job he's paid to do , I'm sure from certain know fuck all
members of this forum , that unless our squad is even more bloated then when Adkins was in charge ,
with at least 3 players for every position they won't be happy .
I'm willing to let the manager in his opinion, the only one that counts btw , to sort it out .
We won't sign all the players some people say we need , we may sign players know fuck all members
won't agree with .
But I'm willing to give Tuffty the benefit of the doubt , and take our club out of the turd division.

Wtf does ” a season of consolidation” mean ? A plan to avoid promotion ? Get fucked !
If there is limited money this season , after we've just offloaded 22 players from the wages budget , I will eat my scarf. But the point is CW is not going to spunk money like Adkins and Clough.
And anyway , what are you supposed to do AFTER a season of consolidation, when the gates have gone down and your club is one more degree unattractive to new players ?
Is there a takeover planned for 17/18 ?
Because I promise you McCabe will not be spending more in L1 for 17/18 than he spends for 16/17.
The aim is for promotion , any other aim is illogical.
Keep calm and stop expecting a signing every day.

Coventry are not panicking.

Coventry City boss Tony Mowbray determined to keep calm and carry on as he waits on offers to summer transfer targets
Nothing imminent as Sky Blues management wait for the close season market to pick up

Tony Mowbray and Mark Venus at Coventry City training
Tony Mowbray admits he’s playing a waiting game with his Coventry City targets but remains calm and confident things will fall into place.

The Sky Blues boss faced a similar situation last summer with new signings slow to get going but the experienced head knows that once he gets one over the line that there’s a good chance that more will follow quickly afterwards.

Technical director Mark Venus revealed last week that City are waiting on four offers at this moment in time, three to out of contract players and one to a club for one of their players, hoping that at least one might reach a positive conclusion this week.

But Mowbray revealed: “I have to say nothing has fallen into place at this moment. It’s a question of waiting. I said to Veno yesterday that we have to be patient.

“I went through it last year when Mark wasn’t here and sometimes you have to go through pre-season with a really young team, play your young players and wait for the right ones.

Irons in the fire
“Whether they are loan players or players who have options, you have to respect that and give them time which is what we’re doing really. We’re trying to move things along but it is what it is. We haven’t got anything over the line yet.

“As Mark has said, there are plenty of irons in the fire that we’re just waiting on.

“I’m hoping it all drops in and I understand that if we get one it could have a snowball effect. If people see we have signed a couple of players, and good players, they’ll be thinking we have got a chance.”

He added: “Veno gets a bit anxious but I never worry about it. I’m confident things will come together.

Championship
“You have to remember that we are in League One and we have to understand that good players – the ones we’re looking at from the Championship – ideally they want to stay there and earn the money.

“But they understand Coventry is a club that has ambitions to get out of this division and if we can we’ll be a pretty big club.

“Their advisors will be telling them that they can sign for certain teams but Coventry is a good option because if Coventry get promoted they will be coming past a lot of those other teams because there’s potential for 20,000 fans.

“They are the decisions they have to make and I understand that and that’s why I am not pushing overly hard.”
