Not panic as such, on my part anyway, just a growing concern.
My main point was the kind of players we seem to be looking at. It needs to be a mix: Transfer fees paid for young talent whose value is likely to rise, frees/cheap to plug a gap and young loanees.
The priority has to be getting in 2 CBs for the start of pre-season. They need to start to develop a partnership and understanding asap.
Unfortunately for me I trust our manager to do the job he's paid to do , I'm sure from certain know fuck all
members of this forum , that unless our squad is even more bloated then when Adkins was in charge ,
with at least 3 players for every position they won't be happy .
I'm willing to let the manager in his opinion, the only one that counts btw , to sort it out .
We won't sign all the players some people say we need , we may sign players know fuck all members
won't agree with .
But I'm willing to give Tuffty the benefit of the doubt , and take our club out of the turd division.
If we don't have 2 cbs in by the end of the week I might start sharing your concern, but as per the wilder interview he expects things to not up this week now most players are back from holiday. In wilder we trust needs to last a bit longer
From an economics point of view we're likely to get re-sale value on them, so done well we shouldn't lose money overall
If we signed Ibrahimovic aged 34 I'd be happy infact if we went up with an aged team of whoevers I'd be happy, we've tried building for the future before but good young players get sold off and never replaced if players aged 30+ get us up and have little value then we can keep them for a little longer it's the results were after.
It's not Wilder I don't trust.
to get players in with the current emphasis on free/cheap and short contracts.
We've clearly got no money, either for wages or fees. We're clearly reliant on Wilder's little black book and still not brought a chief scout in.
Missing out on 2 striker targets this weeks shows us how difficult it's going to be.
Players around 30 are going to be looking for longer contracts. Also, first team football. The same goes for loan players. We're only going to get good ones if they're likely to start.
Personally, I think we need to be investing in younger players. From an economics point of view we're likely to get re-sale value on them, so done well we shouldn't lose money overall. The whole farce with the chief scout sums up our issues. We need someone with great knowledge. We're relying on the obvious, which other clubs know as well. We can't offer more generous deals on these.
We need to appoint Paul Mitchell on Monday. We need to spend money on fees getting players in who are likely to improve. We need to be looking at lower divisions and snapping up those with reasonable wage demands. We need to get 2 experienced CBs in (Beevers should be one) before the end of June. We need to then look to loan in the missing positions.
It's becoming increasingly worrying. We're currently being out-manoeuvred.
Or maybe we are being far more sensible in our recruitment for once and are looking to bring the RIGHT PLAYERS in for the RIGHT MONEY?
For one there has been nothing from Sheffield United in regards to missing out on 2 strikers therefore it might just be idle media talk or even agents touting the move to ramp up fees and wages, after all in the past we have been known for spending silly money on shit players however the truth of the matter remains the same!
We are in the process of clearing out a squad of remotely average / dead wood players. The board know the mistakes made and as a fan of the club and keen follower, so does Chris Wilder.....Where the hell would the sense be in throwing cash around quickly on Journeymen and ultimately MORE dead wood?
Soooo Northampton Town sign Revell.....He's 32 with about 15 clubs under his belt and a rough career average of 1 goal in 4 games. Granted he is ideal for a team like Northampton who have just been promoted and are looking for experience for the new challenge however for a club that has made significant mistakes in recruitment in the past and a club that ultimately has set promotion as the number one objective this year, what does Revell offer us? A squad player? An impact player? A player who without doubt is going to be on a salary that reflects the fact that he has been playing Championship football.....We might get half a dozen good games out of him granted, but look at his more recent form! It is patchy as hell...Hence why he has be loaned to every Tom, Dick and Harry!
What you need to remember as well is that these other clubs doing business around us have probably had the deals in the pipeline for some while and have been waiting til such a time to complete them. Wilder has been at the lane 2 minutes and has to start from scratch!.....I read that United withdrew a bid for Leon Clarke? I wonder if this was business done before Wilder's arrival?
Seriously you need to look at how remotely average our squad was! Do you really want to rush signings and build another squad of "has been's" and "1 good game in 10" players?
Or alternatively do you trust in a man who has quietly followed his team behind the scenes and genuinely knows the problems and mistakes made in the past? A manager who in all fairness has a fabulous track record of building successful teams on a shoe-string budget anyway, but regardless has the backing of the board to go out there and sign sensible, promotion winning players!
I am happy to sit back and allow the club to learn from past mistakes and get it right!
He wanted hum as a back up not as a starter. THAT is the difference.Wilder said we went in for him but he chose a longer contract/guaranteed first team football (from the sound of it). He IS the kind of player we're going in for.
You are really concerned about the signings our rivals are signing.? I mean REALLY ? Revellers wanted guaranteed 1st team football and a two year contract and we offered a back up position and one year. As for Holmes ? Played in a lower league last season and did ok. We have Duffy who has proved himself at our level already.Who knows if we will struggle but the more we see our rivals making signings the more worrying it will become.
Whats most annoying is no one is leaving, we have listed players and it seems barely anyone is interested in them.

I agree about the need to get trhvlisted players out as quickly as possible.
Sawyers- never been convinced by him. Always seems to run out of steam after about 60 minsI said the more players that end up at our rivals the more of a worry it will be. The only player I would have liked us to sign is Ajose but thats because I would have still offloaded McNulty. Missing out on Revell etc. may have not been a bad thing and am more interested to see where the likes of Sawyers, Moncur and Gilbey end up.
Those descriptions are innacurate and purposeful, desperate attempts to talk them down.Sawyers- never been convinced by him. Always seems to run out of steam after about 60 mins
Moncur- nice player but I think we need some strength in our team. Not sure he will give us that
Gilby- You mean the guy at Colchester ? I can understand the first two but not this guy.
