Wendy in the Play Offs

£100 convinced? I’ll beat any odds the bookies offer you.

I’ve found that whenever I offer better odds than a bookie, folk soon shut their mouths. My mates are proper problem gamblers whereas I don’t bother. So when I offer them double what the bookies offer, they know I’m onto a winner.

Bristol City are falling apart, Derby & Villa are dropping points all over the place and I have no faith in Forest & Preston putting a run together. Wendy however have got momentum under Bruce. Seen it before. There's always a team that comes up the rails. I'm convinced they'll get sixth

Obviously stats are not your strong point. Preston are on a hellova run. 11 league games without loss.

Don't think PNE could be doing more than they are now Chris.

Agree on Bristol and Derby. But Villa are unbeaten in 4 with 3 straight victories - hammered Derby 4-0, beat their rivals away and then turned Forest over at the City Ground. 2 home games next up for them too - Boro and Blackburn.

Looking at the table and current form I think it's now quite likely that we'll play them in the semis. 3rd v 6th. I'd rather play anyone else but still think we could beat them over two legs. UTB

You silly sausage! (I did type worse then decided to tone it down a bit).

I don't know if you were looking at a different table to me, I was looking at the Championship table, and what I saw was Wednesday in 11th position, 4 points off the play-offs, 37 games played, with a goal difference of minus 5. I notice two teams above them have played less games. I notice that no team above them has a negative goal difference. I don't think they'll finish in the play-offs or even the top 8.

And I think we will finish top 2.

Listen let them think that, and trust me on Porktalk its like a Jizz fest on there about making the play offs, now they have a proper manager in old Brucie.
It can only help us with them having to play Leeds & Norwich.
Sky sports said Tuesday night before the matches kicked off that Norwich had only Middlesbrough to play out of the current top ten, which was correct at the time and not good for us.
But what they hadn't taken into account was two teams out of the top ten hitting form in Villa and Wednesday both who they have to play. So at the moment we should all be Villa and Wednesday supporters, because like it or not we are going to need some help from other teams taking points of Leeds & Norwich if we are to go up Automatically.

As long as we beat Leeds and win al our games after that we don’t need favours

I would love it if Wednesday get into the play offs. Imagine, they beat Leeds and Norwich along the way, opening the door for the Blades to go up as Champions.
They then proceed to go into WAWAWAW frenzy before losing on penalties at Wembley. All followed by a Chancer fire sale of players and another season of obscurity.

In reality I think they won't get anywhere near.

My mate is convincing himself they’re gonna make it in. He won’t listen to the fact that they’ve played, of note since Bruce walked in, us and Derby in terms of quality. And they didn’t really trouble us bar the Hutchinson chance. They’ve beaten Middlesbrough all season in terms of top 6 (and Villa away in September when Villa were poor - unless I’m missing someone??) They don’t beat top sides. Or at least haven’t.

They’re 4 points off the top 6. That’s 2 games minimum with only 9 left. So 7 games to play with. They’ve got the top 2 to play. Leaves them 5 games. As well as Forest who are above them and battling. Bristol have 2 in hand as of end of the weekend. Pigs GD is shit n all.

If they get in then they’ve done extremely well.

Once again we allow our thinking to be conditioned by the Pigs. Why do people trouble with what is being grunted on ‘Porktalk’? It’s beyond my limited contemplation. I never visit it or seek out any other drivel from them (I’ve enough on my plate here) and never feel I am missing anything.

If Wendy finishes up in 6th after the shit they were in, and with the remaining fixtures they face, then we'd have to acknowledge the twats would deserve it. Also, I for one would not want to face a team in the play-offs on the back of the results that had got them there. It would take an effort of Herculean proportions equivalent to the amazing run Sunderland had that took them to promotion.

I have to regard that scenario as highly unlikely, and therefore will not lose any sleep between now and the last match of this amazing season. I'll stick to my clichéd mantra that I brought with me from League 1 days -
"Chill out; sit back and enjoy the ride!"

They clearly have a chance the maths says as much but they’re still outsiders and there are at least three or four teams with a better claim and on better form.

If Wednesday finish 6th, they will have got there having taken points off our rivals. So long as we focus on our own results then we won't finish in the play offs, but if we do it'll mean that Leeds and Norwich have probably both beaten them and then we won't face SWFC anyway.

No need to get personal. I was a Blade before you were born. I was just expressing an opinion.
If you really are a Blade, why use your third ever post on the forum to post an opinion that the Blades are about to fail dramatically and the pigs are going to have a storming end to the season? Both things, incidentally, which go against form and position. What did you think the reaction would be? Going into the final summation, most of the jury have already decided it's Pork for tea. It'll have to be a hell of a speach.

Wednesday are currently on their best run of the season, having played the 7 or 8 worst teams in the league + United, and there's still 4 or 5 teams ahead of them in the hunt for the playoff places despite that.

Essentially, for them to reach the playoffs they would have to maintain this run of form for another 8 games during which they have to play the likes of Villa, Norwich, Leeds, Forest, Bristol City and Preston. For the first time all season they would have to beat some top half teams whilst also hoping 4 or 5 teams above them implode.

In short, it's pretty unlikely.

I don't think it's that unlikely they could finish 6th. They are not favourites, Villa and Preston are in good form, Boro and Brizzle are both on bad runs. They are right in there with a chance though. I think another problem for them is injuries, they seem to keep getting them at the moment. It's probably due to the fact they aren't used to running about as much.

I seriously hope we don't end up playing them in the play-offs.

To dismiss them reaching 6th is nonsense, I would never had thought that 2 weeks ago.
The 6th spot is wide open, but I hope Villa or PNE nick it.

I think whats become apparent this season theres a big divide between the top 12 and the rest of the division. Wednesday have proved this over the past 10 games, if we take our Blades blinkers off we all know Wednesday have a decent top 10 squad, but they haven't been tested properly yet.

From 12th downwards I literally expect us to beat every team and majority of the time we do comfortably. In the last 10 games Wednesday have played two teams above 10th and drawn to both (us and Derby).....basically what they've been good at is doing whats expected of them.

There real test is from now.

The way Boro are going there's 5th and 6th available and probably 10 teams thinking they have a chance.

Although not impossible, I wouldn't call it wide open, as discussed in this thread (about them losing to Leeds and Norwich and still making the play offs). They must better all four teams ahead of them by 3 points over the next 8 games. That would be a colossal failure by four teams.

Apologies for not reading this thread in it's entirety, but we mustn't forget (based on the assumption that no one else has mentioned this) that wendy have the cloud of FFP hanging darkly over their heads. So whatever their dreams of resurrection under tubby, they may find that the carpet is pulled sharply from under their feet, leaving them with a hefty points deduction and remaining in their rightful home of La Liga.

Life is sometimes unfair, but if you flout the rules as Chansiri has done, then don't be surprised if you wake up one morning with a very sore head.

Oh, and if there's any wendy who happens to be reading this, you've only been in this division for a mere eight seasons, so still time (that means next season) to strengthen and discover what it takes to get yourselves in the promotion frame.

Between the 5th position and the 11th position is a difference of just 4 points, that is definitely wide open for the 7 clubs involved. I would not rule out any of these clubs making 5th or 6th.

Put it this way, if we where one of the 7 clubs, I would expect us to be still in the mix.
