I do wish folk would wait untill the transfer window has closed before making these snap assesments, one way or the other.

The management team will have planned for life without Doyle, McAtee and dare I say it....Ndiaye too.

The only rumours seem to be either of outgoings or incomings of relatively unknown players from the European leagues, neither of these instil confidence that the squad will be stronger, let alone on par with, the one that got us promoted.

We've taken a long time to get a 1 Million pound player through the door, nearly as long as its taken Arsenal to sign one at £105m (from time credible rumours emerged to signing on the dotted line) A player we've been linked with at estimated £2m is taking even longer, and we're still not sure if the deal will be done.
We're in competition with a mid table Championship team for a player who wouldn't likely break the bank, and there is every possibility we could lose that player.
One of our primary targets has gone elsewhere.
We've re-signed two injury hit players, who could barely hold their head above water last season in the league below

Tell me does the above breed confidence that suddenly we're going to turn things around in 4 weeks?
We're only a PL club in name, in reality we're a mid-lower champ club in resources and until our owner slings his hook, nothing will change

I'm a little dubious, but if he was cheap (less than £5 million) I'd not be opposed to signing him. He has the benefit of already knowing how to play in our system.

The concern would be I'm not sure he's athletic enough for the role. He ended last season strongly but he started it not being able to finish 90 minutes or play two games in a row. He'll need to up with energy and workrate by at least 25% to compete in the Premier League. Might be able to do it but I'd say it will at least take him months to get to that place. I don't think we can afford to do that.

If he's our own player, then it's an investment. If he's on loan, we're basically doing the hard bit for City.
Doyle is a young lad so I really don't see fitness as an issue.

I think any fee will be closer to £20m than the £5m you suggest, which sadly will rule us out.

I didn't say that. I said we're weaker as it stands from last season and we need some big signings to be competitive otherwise it'll be a long season. I don't want to see a rerun of the relegation season. That's not being a bedwetter it's reality.
Depends who comes in.. you never know. Like Maupay brilliant on the South Coast just never fitted in at Everton. Might be a perfect fit for us...but there's only one way to find out

We're only a PL club in name, in rs then auto but in eality we're a mid-lower champ club in resources
..pardon 91 points hints at a bit better than that Play off then auto suggests our squads not that bad

Our problem.is not having wads of cash ..now I'm 70 next year and never known in that time us not being in that situation.
We came up with bassett with a third division side and stayed 4 years with Gannon and Booker ...so anythings possible

Never understood this keeness to write us off month before it starts

I'm usually an optimist but if we start the season without Ndiaye, McAtee and Doyle which is beginning to look likely we'll be a lot weaker than last season. Slimani, Traoe are not the finished product, more prospects, they may be good, they may be flops. O'Brien didn't cut it at Forest. The midfield is the cause for most concern as I believe that was the area that cost us in the relegation season more than defence, attack. If the midfield is weak you're f*cked. Hopefully we'll get a couple more m/f in. It's gone quiet on the Doyle front. I saw a comment on Twitter that we're no longer pursuing Doyle. Hope that's wrong. But it feels like Heckys hands are tied right now.

It was always going to be difficult to get Doyle back. Should we continue chasing a player we are unlikely to get? I seem to remember we did this last time in the PL.
I would ask PG on his availability. If the answer is no then we should quickly move on to other targets. We can't have another Brewster situation again.

True enough but the PL has changed immeasurably since Bassetts day, it's almost like saying you could build a car in your garage and compete in F1, happened back in the day but no chance now.

No it hasn't man u spurs liverpool had more money than us then
Clubs like Bournemouth brentford and Brighton have come to terms with it. Brentford done the double over man city. We wiped the floor both games v Fulham but they did ok

How many other teams in the championship would have spent so little after promotion? I'm genuinely interested to know how bad our finances are compared to the rest of championship.

We have to consider it in the round - we spend nearly 150m in 18 months last time - which we’ve ONLY just finished paying off!

While a reset isn’t ideal - for the long term I can understand not going mental again money wise.

The PL parachute payments on the championship will go a hell of a lot further if we aren’t paying 10/15m of Brewster fee.

you have to balance it with the fact our current owner is retisent to spand more than he has to and say if we but 60m quids worth he might not get any return

how many people selling their house put in a swimming pool while selling one

To carry on with this metaphor.. Imagine if not building a swing pool means your house gets teleported to a much less desirable catchment area.

I know. It'd be like a team outside the big 5 winning league or somat

Can I have your season ticket if you're not going to go?

We have to get rid of the old guard for next season, whether we stay up or not, these signings are young and hopefully talented lads that come relatively cheap in todays market, rather than crippling the club for 2/3 years with Wilder like punts, who haven't exactly set the world on fire yet, at least we won't be penniless if they don't work out

I think it’s more about us wanting to challenge and seeing us gain promotion and straight away being hit with the We’ve got no money message.
Sad really but that’s good old Sheff U.

and the reason we have limited resources and were in an embargo for part if last season is ?

Doyle will be out of our reach wether that be transfer fee or wages.
Think your right the midfield is a big cause for concern, currently it’s weak as piss, we need a shithouse in there.
I have been called a shithouse,will I do?

We won’t be able to afford the fee or wages for him.
It wouldn’t be a horrendous fee city are very clever when it comes to this sort of thing, they’d put a generous sell on and buy back in. It’ll be wages + wage cut on relegation.
