Looks a good prospect, his positioning and tracking back in transition leaves a bit to be desired though. Some of that will be improved by better coaching and improved fitness.

We have seen literally zero evidence that he has anything like Norwood range of passing. UTB
He has successfully knocked the odd mid range pass, out wide, but yeah we've not seen anything resembling those trademark 40yrd Pings into the channels that Norwood is lorded for.

Oh you mean the very thing holding midfielders are renowned for? Nobody can doubt his range of passing but he is nowhere near good enough at protecting the backline - something we desperately need at this level. Souza isn’t attack minded at all - he wasn’t brought in to be.

In fairness, it was unbelievably naiive all round.....their big fellers all ran near post as the corner came in, our entire defence followed them and left those 2 completely exposed in the middle. We learnt from it later but proper Sunday League stuff which we'd have never fallen for in the Championship.

I personally reckon we'll give ourselves a decent chance of staying up but we just seem to be panicking at the back. Hopefully Thomas in at full back and Souza screening them will calm them all down a bit.

I do think some of the frailty at the back has been caused by Egan and consequently Anel, feeling the need to cover LB/LWB slightly and leaving spaces. Some security and player consistency there will go along way to setting down your back line.

As much as l hate it, the International Break could be a massive blessing for us.

Souza will be our biggest sale in 2 years time at approx 60m (if we can stay in the EPL) Bookmark this and see you in the future.
I liked it, but I don't want that to be the case. It'll be a shame if we continue to be a selling club even once we're more established in the PL. Having said that, I guess it's a good problem to have.

Of course we will still sell. And if Souza goes for £60m I’m absolutely certain the club will have been successful in the PL leading up to that sale. And will hopefully have properly established the “Brentford/Brighton model”. Both of whom will always sell their top performers for large profits but with adequate replacements lined up.

Already have. So have others. You don’t see it, I wouldn’t expect you to, and all of that’s absolutely fine.
why wouldn't you expect me too?

what on earth are you talking about?

100% this. Vini is a thorough-bred modern defensive midfielder and i feel that despite his good performances so far that he would be more impactful in that role. Also, the prospect of Hamer and McAtee next to each other is incredibly exciting, probably most balanced midfield we have had in a long time. ⚔️

I think that midfield would be a problem defensively personally. Hamer and McAtee are almost attacking midfielders. It would leave Souza v a 2 or even 3 in there as most games we will cede possession.

I'd like to see us try Davies and Souza with McAtee and Hamer in front but that means going to a 4 at the back which they don't do or away going with one up top. We have to simply see more of the ball in midfield.

He isn’t being played where he should be. He’s no good going forward. Get him in Norwood’s position ASAP.
spot on norwood improved 2nd half yesterday but was poor 1st half i think we need souza there and bring either davies or slimane in

Very comfortable on the ball & happy to receive it under pressure. As he grows into the league and fully understands his role in our system he will continue to improve. Looks a great signing.
Definitely needs to grow into the league/ English football. Was quiet in spells and just needs to get that fitness / sharpness sorted but looks a good player

I thought the whole point about Hamer is that he does both well - he's creative yes, but his Coventry heatmap had a lot of touches in front of defence as well?

For me, Souza is like Kalvin Phillips without the LUFC baggage; he's there to disrupt in midfield and I thought he did that well yesterday. From what we've seen from Hamer so far he doesn't quite have the accuracy of an on-form Norwood (though who does?) but he has that bit more quality linking up with the strikers.

From watching hamer player RCM for coventry on many occasion he is excellent defensively in terms of defensive peformance and takles he was in the top players along with norwood last season much more a number 8 than people here make out. Would be more than capable to drop back into line with souza and free up mcatee for the counter. ⚔️

Where does Slimane fit in the scheme of things?
My impression was that him, Traore and Larouci were brought in as development players to gradually introduce through the season. Slimane would be a sub to cover Berge, Traore for Ndiaye and Larouci for Lowe.

Obviously that was when we thought Ndiaye and Berge would still be here, so I guess now Slimane is sub/cover for Hamer/McAtee, Traore for McAtee/Archer and Larouci for Thomas.

I'm hoping that now our midfield is more mobile and of a higher quality, we'll actually have higher possession and passing stats. We can't continually see ourselves as the small fish, so mentally we have to believe we have a midfield capable of competing with the mid table teams.

The only real issue is that Souza, Hamer and Mcatee will all be adjusting to the Premier League, and this adjustment won't happen overnight. Souza looked bolloxed by the 70th minute, Hamer somehow kept going all game, and Mcatee needs to continue his development on the defensive side of his game.

Loved Monty me -

Very underrated IMO - But i know nowt
Think both comments here are how I feel about the lad.

Don’t see how he’s getting the high praise, see that he does a job but think if he was called Montgomery then he’d not be getting as high praise?
Vini Souza sounds sexy, he’s tall and Brazilian.

Agree with lots of comments though regarding time to gel and do hope he will be a good addition.

Like all our new signings…it’s a long season, let’s see at the end and wait for Deadbats reviews which are usually spot on in my opinion.
