The last bit is the issue. It appears he is Wilders #1.
UTB
Everybody saying 'he's not premier league quality' is this based on goals scored, how he looks, consistency, something else?
Do you remember Kane in the Championship ? Was he better then than McB was at Swansea ?This is a wind up right ? Kane and McB in the same breath really.
there is no doubt in my mind that he should be on the bench as he is out of form
This is correct it's how he played at swansea and why we bought him it seems he's been coached out of one system to fit anotherMcBurnie is a ball to feet drop deep and collect type of player.
He's NOT a target man.
If we stop using him like it, and start to give him a teeny tiny bit of service, we might see a better player.

This.
McBurnie doesn't "have good feet for a big man" he just has GOOD FEET.
He controls well, passes well, turns well, drives well.
Play to his bleeding strengths. He's good in the air but I agree, he's not a target man.
Glad to know that others see it too! This is correct it's how he played at swansea and why we bought him it seems he's been coached out of one system to fit another
Hopefully when fleck gets back in there could be a ball or two to his feet to run on toGlad to know that others see it too!
There's only so many times you can post his goals vids from Swansea before you start to die inside everyone someone calls him a target man or a big lad!
Agreed! Berge is improving at that part of his game all the time as well, he was talking about it in an interview I read earlier today actually.Hopefully when fleck gets back in there could be a ball or two to his feet to run on to

Well you made me watch that video againGlad to know that others see it too!

I don't know but that's how we are playing himWell you made me watch that video again
24 goals
3 penalties
10 goals from in and around the goal area
8 headed goals
3 goals from further out than 10 yards
This is how he scored his goals in the second tier, he's a goal poacher like Sharp and Brewster but with strong aerial prowess. Having said that he is woefully out of form and bar a header against Wolves hasn't had anything on target.
BTW who has called him a target man?
Yes.For those that don't fancy him and considering he cost 17-20m, would you consider some sort of swap deal with Morelos at Rangers?
It wouldn't surprise me to see them throw in a 12m bid to test the waters. He makes no secret of his support for them.
If you got offered 15m, would anyone be tempted to sell?
It's how he's most commonly referred to by most people, from what I've seen! Wasn't a reference to any particular person making any particular comment, just the apparent general perception of him as someone you have to lump it towardsWell you made me watch that video again

Who would you replace him with? That last game for Scotland though he looked like a defender knocking the ball back to the keeper.
I'm happy with where I sit on this; he does not have the confidence to be playing up front, he should come on where we're comfortable (if such a thing will happen this season) or we're holding a lead and need that extra height in defence.
Couldn't agree more mate. It's always going to be tough too, when your two best players aren't playing.Until the left side of defense and midfield are sorted out I don't think it's fair to criticise any of our attackers. I know McBurnie's ball control looks poor at times but he needs to be on the end of a few decent centres pulled back from the by line, the type we used to see in the rise from league 1 and through the championship. Of course we're up against better defences now, and with both Fleck (playing well) and O'Connell missing I don't know when better service will return.
He showed moments of his class last year. I know that's not enough for what we need from him and what we brought him in for. But look at our team this season he's playing no worse than anyone else in the team. Like I said too, how can a striker score when he doesn't even have a chance too. Prime examples of this are the Chelsea and City games. Don't get me wrong, they are good team but you can't sit back all game. Especially when you are losing 4-1.Just accept it this guy is crap!
Yeah I did have a feeling his stats weren't the best for Scotland either. In terms of your point with McGoldrick I get where you're coming from. However, they are completely different players, McGoldrick has skill and flair. As for McBurnie, well I guess you could either define him as a poacher/ target man. Meaning he relies on other to do well and feed him with chances. Unlike McGoldrick, who in my opinion is a creative player where they are looked upon to start the attacks. That's no shock to Wilder and co. they knew that when they signed him so they must've known that he would need service to do well for us. I know I'm saying the obvious here, but I guess it's still important to remember.Nicely presented Video.
If you are going by stats, 0 from 15 for Scotland.
Agree that the service is appalling, and its pretty pointless thumping up balls for him to flick on, because nobody runs beyond him.
However in a desperate season, McGoldrick has managed to get 2 from open play.
No disrespect to McBurnie, but just by playing him, encourages the midfield to knock it long.
Whilst options up front are limited, I'd put an extra body in Midfield, and hope Brewster comes good,
I feel at the end of the day before signing for us. He had scored 22 goals in the championship in his first full season. Bearing in mind he has actually scored against us every time he's played against us too! I feel that it shows if you can score that many in your first season and that young an age. You definitely have the potential, like I mentioned for a poacher, which he is then you need service. No matter what you think of the lad, anyone who's watched us this season, has to agree we haven't given him that. He’s not a poor player he’s just unfortunately not Premier League Quality.
He’s had 5 n fluffed the lotGiven decent crosses he was good last season so I don’t doubt he will be this, but he does need decent crosses and we only have one or two players that can do them (occasionally)
I think what he was trying to say is, look at the bigger issue. Yes, our goalscoring has been desperate, but they had little to feed off. We created nothing this season due to the wingbacks not getting forward enough. This is due to manager doubling up on us this season with their wingbacks and wingers. So this season our wingbacks are defending rather than attacking. The defence has been nowhere near as solid as last season. That's the real difference between this season and last.Seriously, that does not make sense at all. We have 2 of our first choice left siders out (Stevens killing himself maintaining the standard) and yet you want to allow our strikers time to take an extra touch, allow the ball to bounce off them or just not get a shot on target? Have a word with yourself about this attitude, it's tantamount to sticking your knickers on your head and saying, 'wibble.'
That's interesting, and that's obviously most likely down to form. It's true but it isn't just our strikers, I've noticed Baldock especially this season takes to long to put a cross in which will definitely be down to confidence too.Watched him for Scotland last night and he did quite well, the main problem is that he always receives the ball with his back to goal. He had one situation facing goal from around 20 yards out and rather than look for the opportunity to get a shot off, his first thought was to pass it wide. Its not just him that does its all of our strikers at the moment.
Burke looked lively when he came on. Skinned his full back 3 times in first 5 mins and got decent crosses in, but for some reason Scotland stopped giving him the ball. Much of it down to McTominay who's passing was dreadful.
That's a great point and I'm sure the rest of the squad, Wilder included feel the same. McBurnie is definitely a 'shithouse' too, so I'm sure he misses the crowds whether its home or away.A point that hasn’t been mentioned is the effect of playing behind closed doors.
McBurnie was actually interviews on Talksport a few weeks after the 1st shutdown
and they asked him about playing behind closed doors when the season re-starts.
His reply was that some players can be fantastic in training but struggle playing in front of big crowds
whilst others can do little in training but perform when there’s a crowd and there’s pressure on a game.
McBurnie said he prefers the pressure of a crowd. He said he enjoys the banter and thinks he performs better the bigger the crowd.
Many matches this season are like glorified training sessions.....maybe it’s effecting some players more than others.
