Outgoing? Tom Cannon

I think he’ll come good. But I also thought we’d beat Sunderland and England would win the World Cup so I’m not often correct
Do you think he’s suddenly going to acquire intelligence, a footballing brain, positional sense, and speed of thought? Never mind the physical attributes to hold off a centre back or the pace to beat one in a foot race. Quite a lot going to be needed to get the lad up to speed for this season then. I wish him well in those endeavours.

interestingly, there are no quotes in the article so not sure where Danny gets the conclusion from. If it was from Wilder’s interview then I didn’t draw the same conclusion.

Surely admitting you got it wrong isn’t worth letting the club lose millions?

He has never looked the part and it is now 18 months that he’s been here.

What next? Let him get to one year to go and sell him at a vastly reduced fee anyway?

If Preston have some cash and we can get anywhere near the fee we paid we should snap their hands off and reboot.

Only thing I can think of is there is no point indicating you’d let the player leave unless you can be sure the bid is enough.

I could perhaps understand wanting to keep him if we were looking to play 4-3-3 or 3-4-1-2 but I just don’t see how he fits into the 4-2-3-1 that we’re currently using.

I think there’s a reasonably player in there but can’t see it happening under Wilder. We rarely counter at pace or play through balls for a striker running in behind.

He's neither quick enough, strong enough, nor intelligent enough to play that game. Nor is he good enough in the air or sharp enough to play the target role. Get rid.

I’m a big fan of Wilder, particularly when we are obviously cash-strapped. It’s entirely understandable that he wants to give Cannon every possible opportunity…. and he has scored goals elsewhere in the division.
Unfortunately like many, I just can’t see what he offers us… he has anonymous game after anonymous game. If he had obvious assets such as pace, strength or trickery then further patience might be warranted… but he doesn’t. It definitely feels right to give him a fresh start at another club and for us to look elsewhere.
I like the look of One… and if Donovan can provide supply from the right, he and Bamford could be a real handful.
Campbell getting back to somewhere near his best would be great but I’d like to see us add a real pace merchant up top.

90 mins v a very average division one side where we notched 3 and he did absolutely nothing...apart from sky a good chance. What is his USP? He isnt big, he isnt fast, he doesnt hold it up, he doesnt score. His time is up with us and it will do both the lib and Cannon a favour if he moves on
2nd half brought out a decent save from their keeper, I was looking at a highlights reel from his loan spell at Preston just before he joined us, the problem he doesn't get is the space and sometimes time he needs to put the ball past the keeper with the goals he scored for them and in some ways us, he has 3 or 4 yards of quick space, rather than being overloaded with defenders a lot of these are long balls over the top or just running at players backing off and getting a bit of luck. We play a different style and possibly not suited.
