Whilst everyone was slagging him off last season, I was watching him closely to try and understand just how bad he is/was. His off the ball work is good. He makes intelligent runs and often pulls a centre back out of position. He definitely needs a Strike partner though. There's no point pulling the CBs out of position if no teammate is going to capitalise on it.

He's also got a very good shot on him. Feed him the balls in and around the 12-15yards outside the goal and he will try and shoot almost every time.

As with all our current squad, we need to find a way to play to their strengths and not just shoehorn them in

Sure, but there is no way we payed £10M up front. No deal is done that way these days. Just watch Sky Sports today and notice the amount of 'Option to', 'Rising to', etc. in deals. Not to mention the structured payments of deal as well. Not saying we don't have to account for the money owed (we know better than most the consequences of not) but there is no such thing as an up front cash deal these days. It's all spreadsheets and moving values across columns A, B, C, ------> Z.

Isn’t that the most frustrating thing. Since Sharp we’ve not had one true goal scorer.

Moussette looked hot but went cold
McBurnie scored lots for Swansea and not enough for us.
Brewster just didn’t happen for him or Utd
Cannon. Just nothing.

That’s where I got strikers graveyard from.

Firmly believe it was due to tactics under Wilder and honestly thought Selles early interviews gave hope we see Cannon flourish but it’s worse.

Even Tyrese has now gone off the boil.

If Ings fails aswell we definitely have work out how to cure a curse.

Yep, he's purely a finisher. I say this all the time, in every thread... But how good was Billy Sharp's all round game at 22? Just for example. He worked hard on it in his "last spell" with us.

But also, as many have said, he needs to play off another striker probably. Makes runs and can finish. That's all he is - but with the potential to do it well at this level if supplied, as he's shown in glimpses elsewhere.

Michael Owen mentioned this in a interview with Rio Ferdinand last week. The lack of proper strikers available for England after Kane and Watkins. How the two up top has vanished from the game and how he couldn't play the one up top if he was player today. He'd be shunted out wide left, so he'd be cutting in to shoot on his right foot.
Sure he mentioned years ago that Emile Heskey was his favourite partner when he played for England.
