How do you know? He’s played 2 matches FFS!

He could turn into a Brewster type waste of money or we could sell him in a couple of years for £50m!

Maybe wait a little bit before writing him off?

Excuse me but l don’t read this forum expecting to see common sense spouted. Please desist.

Great work for the goal.

I'm not really sure what we're trying to do with our strikers a lot of the time. Whether it's been Campbell, Moore, Brewster, One, or now Cannon, we spend a lot of time with our one central striker watching the game go by.

Not read because I know the postings of a % of the members of the forum, but what I will say is…..

Anyone knocking Cannon already ought to be ashamed and give their heads a wobble, either that or **** off with their uneducated footballing viewpoints.

The same tits wrote Campbell off and well, where did that end up? Important goals and did the pigs.

He’s proven at this level and needs to work out the dynamics of new team mates and system. If you have nothing positive or proactive to say about a bloke who wears our badge and is in his learning stages… then leave it be.

This team is brand new and it’s not done too bad so far. We’ve added proven quality to it and I have every faith that given time it will come good. It doesn’t need negative from the sidelines! It doesn’t deserve negativity from the sidelines! I don’t want to sit next to negativity on the sidelines.

We won't sell him in a couple of years for £50m that is pretty damn obvious

The frustrating thing for me is that Campbell looks much more of a presence and a goal threat and he's going to be benched because we've overpaid for cannon

At some point you’re going to have a think about what you’re doing with your life and decide against this.
A very pathetic shallow reply. I have been going to Bramall Lane since.1967. Prove to me that I am not a Blade, and prove to me that you are !

What are you basing that statement on then given Whittaker has 25 goals in the Championship from 122 appearances and Cannon has only scored 6 fewer in less than half the games??

Whittaker has been the worst player in his position this season
Cannon is leagues top scorer

You know Whittaker is a Winger, not a Striker?

Might aswell compare Ryan Giggs to Alan Shearer

At the moment I’m sure he’s fine, he’s setup the winning goal today. I’d love to see us play a style of football that brought players like Cannon into the game a bit more but practically we need to get promoted so if we 1 nil every game that’s fine for the purpose of this season, beyond that we need a reinvention.
Cannon needs the ball feeding through to him on the deck, like the goal set up. We really only have Hamer or Davies, who neither played today, that can do that on a regular basis. So having the right players in midfield is crucial to getting the best out of him. I certainly haven’t written him off by any stretch.

Some of our fans really are odd. Haven’t been today as I’m on holiday, saw the goal which he created brilliantly. Came onto the forum and saw his thread was the most recently commented on, expected him to be getting prised. Hes getting slagged off haha 😂. Can’t make it up.
You’ve been around here long enough to know that a few posters are completely shit. Far, far shittier than any player they’ve called shit. As much as they might protest otherwise, they are not proper fans. They are the single worst thing about the club.

Great assist. Thought his chance early doors was heading in before defender basically dragged him down.

Let him and Campbell fight for that top spot or even play them both together.

I'm not comparing them
I'm saying whittaker has been one of the worst players in the league in his position
And Cannon is the best in his

My issues with cannon so far are that, he's not fast, he looks weak as a kitten, he's not good in the air, he's not skillful, his movement to create space is pretty poor, positives are he runs about a bit and he's knocked one ball across the 6 yard box which every one is wanking over, but I just don't see what he offers for a £2m striker let alone £10m

Billy Sharp, like cannon has no physical attributes, he was not fast or strong but his movement and finishing was exceptional

I've not seen Cannon shoot or finish yet so maybe my view on him will change if/when he gets a few chances

Shit, over rated and could pick up far better in Europe much cheaper.

Cannon's just won us the game today with the way he creates space for himself and then puts in a lovely cross on his left foot (Cannon is two footed btw) If we get promoted and Cannon plays his part then he's already paid the fee back.

It's his second game today too and already we're seeing an end product.
I do like the fact that Cannon is genuinely 2 footed.
It throws defenders off-guard like his assist did today.

Have a look at Weeds SEVEN goals today for how to play wide and fast and create danger and chances.

Wilder's ideas about width lead to very few chances and yet it would be simple to correct by coaching.

or just watch how Leeds do it.
It’s pointless us trying to play like Leeds though, they have the players and system to do it. We’re not all of a sudden going to take the shackles off and start banging 6’s and 7’s in.

For all Leeds have done they’ve earned the same number of points as we have this season, there’s more than 1 way to skin a cat.

I accept that.
I was only posting in response to a comment about our lack of width.
I do think we could improve our attacking by using more width.
It won't happen overnight , but we do have some better players now , who are capable of stretching defences.
I hope that CW will encourage the players to use some more invention at the top of the pitch.
Not always trying to pass their way through the middle.
Our points haul is brilliant , taking account of the unfinished rebuild and the injuries.
But winning by 1 goal tends to put us through a period of tense defending towards the end of games , which must be even more stressful for that players than it is for us fans !

As many have alluded to, we don’t really have a style of play or identity in the way we play. It’s pretty boring to watch but if the end goal is promotion and then we’re going to rebuild further at that point (we’ll need to because this team is a nailed on certainty for relegation as it stands) then I’ve made my peace with it.

I’ll still piss and moan if we play like we did last week on a semi regular basis, but if we’re going to keep it tight and are convinced our forwards can convert the little chances we make then that’s down to the manager.

I can’t see a scenario where we start using the wings though.

Absolutely if he gets 3 or 4 key goals that get us up that's value for money.

The mousset spell of goals meant we were never really looking down and got tens of millions more than if we were in a relegation scrap.

With TV money going up next season that ten million would be a bog standard signing fee next year.
