Cannon will contribute and when we get promoted will be seen to have helped us over the line

AyeYou really do spout a load of nonsense don’t you. Basing your “opinions” on 170 mins of watching him, presuming you go to matches. At a new club, getting used to players/style etc.
Also you obviously never watched Billy Sharp did you?
Created one yesterday and naff all against HullMad to think we're 2nd and have won 63% of our games this season without creating any chances![]()
We scored against Hull which was disallowed (arguably) also JSR skied an acceptable chance into the kop. That's not creating naff all.Created one yesterday and naff all against Hull
Entertainment aside , we are more likely to get promoted if we attack with a little more fluidity and variety.I’m pretty sure that the job description in Chris Wilder’s contract hovers around “get us promoted” rather than “entertain the masses extravagantly”.
This may be disappointing for the cognoscenti of this forum.
Come on. We are scoring on average 1.37 goals per game. Last time we went up under Wilder it was free flowing all out attacking football where we put 4 and 5 past everyone and finished with an average of .......... 1.69 goals per game. If we maintain current averages it means that season we scored a whopping 14 goals more than this.Mad to think we're 2nd and have won 63% of our games this season without creating any chances![]()
To be fair when Stoke won the race to sign Cannon all their fans were excited.
Apparently we wanted him but he choose Stoke over us because he knew some of the players there and it was closer to his Liverpool home.
However if you look at their forum he received the exact same comments from a lot of Stoke fans during early matches.
Even after quite a lot of games for them, the general view wasn’t 100% glowing.
The Stoke fans basically said he plays high up the pitch, on the shoulder of the last defender and doesn’t drop back deep playing in midfield.
Apparently he also strikes a ball cleanly generating decent power and often gets his shots on target.
So he doesn’t do much apart from score and he needs his team mates to set up chances for him.
The general view was he’s worth £6 million but is young and does have potential to increase his value.
They all said we’ve overpaid as he’s not currently worth £10 million but for us (in our position) its money well spent.
A calculated risk where we have agreed to knowingly pay above market value.
A players success is all down to how they’re used in a team and the tactics employed to get the best out of players.
This signing is big indicator of Wilders competency. Wilder knows all about Cannon and been chasing him for months.
Wilder is convinced Cannon will be a big success here….he’ll already have a tactical plan regards how he fits into the team…so we’ll see.
At this early stage, he’s only had a few days training with his new team mates….so I’ll reserve judgment until after about 6 games.
We were playing some lovely stuff earlier in season when we were picking a simiIlar elevenEntertainment aside , we are more likely to get promoted if we attack with a little more fluidity and variety.
If we get promoted , we are going to face better defences than the ones we are finding difficult to breach this season.
What is wrong with continuous improvement ?
It tends to bring success.
Seeking it doesn't imply disloyalty.
I doubt my measured comments qualify as "ripping the piss".We were playing some lovely stuff earlier in season when we were picking a simiIlar eleven
We've lost Arblaster our deep lying playmaker
Moore who we can hit early if pressed high
And souttar who is Composed in defence and brings the ball out
On top of that we haven't been able to pick any kind of consistent eleven so we wouldn't be playing with the same fluidity as other teams
Fuck. Knows how we've been scraping results to staying touch considering the workloads of the players
You'd think that would be something to bge proud of but oh no let's rip the piss out the players for not playing like 70's Brazil
That post was measured but I was referring more to posts like thisI doubt my measured comments qualify as "ripping the piss".
Of course I'm impressed by how we've coped since Blaster was injured and since Boxing Day began a period of difficulty with several absences.
But I'm actually referring to the season as a whole when asking for
"a little more fluidity & variety in attack".
I think that in trying to squeeze in both Hamer & O'Hare , in addition to limiting us to one striker , has caused an imbalance in our attacking / creativity.
I'm looking forward to the effect of Cannon & BBD , and also the repositioning of Hamer , away from LW.
I hope that with 5 new potential starters , CW can develop a more consistent formula for creating chances.
It might take some bedding-in , but with our 3 rivals winning this week , we don't have the luxury of much breathing space.
They're wingers aren't they ?
Despite being fully fluent in English ,
They'll probably have difficulty with :
Tight games.
Fine margins.
Pass it sideways around the back.
Play on your weaker foot and
Do NOT try to beat the FB on the outside and put a dangerous cross in.
It's called an "inverted winger" ,
Basically , don't use your pace , just turn inside and get swallowed by the opposition defence.
It's boring and produces few chances but it's the modern diktat.
Fair enough ,That post was measured but I was referring more to posts like this
Was just looking for the thread. Thought it was him but only caught a glimpse from behind. In a moonboot after the final whistle...![]()
Not to be brutal, but forcing Wilder to pick Campbell / BBD over him for a few weeks might be a blessing in disguise
Got a bit of the Brewsteritis - always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Suspect he's trying too hard and thinking too much.
His decision making has him looking like a regular Friendlies League Division 8 sub pushed into a County Senior side. As l said last time, early days but he needs to make a big step up if Wilder continues with him as first choice.
What’s the injury?
So far it looks like we've signed a player that doesn't fit our system, but isn't good enough for us to change our system to suit him.
Patience needed. Remember all those that were on O’Hares’ back during his early run of games? ( have a read of page 1 of the O’Hare thread to remind yourself).Indeed. That may very well be the case.
Campbell was a big improvement on Cannon 2nd halfHis decision making has him looking like a regular Friendlies League Division 8 sub pushed into a County Senior side. As l said last time, early days but he needs to make a big step up if Wilder continues with him as first choice.
What’s the injury?
I thought he did ok in general play yesterday but has that knack (that many of our strikers do) of never looking like they will actually score. Campbell is much more suited to us at present but also has been integrated into the team for much longer so thats understandable - I think he'd do better coming off the bench at the minute when games are a little more stretched - he'd have probably gained a couple of chances second half yesterday. Luckily if he's injured we now have options to replace him with Campbell, Brewster, BBD and Moore returning - UTB
