Owners surely realise that without Souttar we are extremely vulnerable at CB - I was hoping we'd add a good young CB even with Souttar in place.
Our league position is based on a great defence.
Exactly

I think we may have got played on this one if we end up signing him on a permanent deal. I expect the interest from Sunderland was a half arsed bid to get the price up on the purchase option of the loan.

Now we have been pushed into signing him permanently when we probably only wanted him on a loan to buy. I reckon Soton are trying to do similar with BBD.
I don't see how Mackems could have afford a cash offer when they don't have parachutes and are limited by FFP.
Our attraction was cash on the nail so I hope we've got him for much less than £13m.
Let's see when it's announced ...
It might be undisclosed.

If we don’t go up… then we have a young proven goal scorer at championship level for another promotion push?
“Proven” he’s scored 9 goals this season. 4 were penalties, 4 were in one match. He scored 8 the season before. On what realm is that proven 😂

A valuation is a strange concept.

Think most would agree that Cannon is probably a £6 or £7 million striker, he’s good (at least average Championship standard) but not that good (no where near PL level). However we are desperately short in one of the most important positions on the pitch, so our club playing 10 million plus makes sense and is good calculated risk. Agree, we’re paying over the odds but he’s still young, could and should improve.

It’s a bit like being at a Glastonbury concert when it’s 90 degrees in the sweltering heat.
You’re desperate for a drink, you go to a kiosk and they are charging £10 for a small bottle of ice cold water.
It’s a rip off price but in those circumstances you enjoy the drink so much it’s well worth it…..you can afford it so you pay £30 for 3 small bottles of water.
In normal circumstances totally rip off prices but in the circumstances you were in, £10 a bottle is good value and well worth it.

Same with Cannon…if he helps us gain promotion…then his £13 mill asking price (whatever it is) was a master stroke as it will be a bargain.

Think you’re pissed off because you predicted we wouldn’t spend 7 million on any player. You always predict that we’ll lose every match and always predict we won’t sign a decent player. You disappear when we win or play well, then you’re a regular on this forum when we lose or play really badly. It’s odd behaviour for a supposed blade.

Equally what makes him worth only 6 or 7 million? What most would agree with doesn’t make it true either.

Personally, I don’t think Gilchrist is commanding enough to play CB

We need to bring in a big fk off defender to win everything in the air.

Hoping CW has him lined up?
unless we go back to a back 3 gilchrist anel robbo 🤔

He’s scored more than any of our players individually in a crap side? Only 22… how can you criticise someone before they’ve even signed?
Pretty easily. We’re paying 13 million for him to lead the line. When he doesn’t do that role. He finishes chances. That’s it.

Compare that with Campbell as an example. He’s scored 6 goals this season, whilst being out for a few weeks. He cost us no fee. Am I wrong in thinking he’ll have a better return, for much less of a fee?

Cannon has scored 4 goals in a single game. Where’s the rest come from? 4 penalties, and the final one?

I reckon those of us assuming that this means there's not going to be money for other signings are wide of the mark.

I get that we've been living off crumbs so many years that it's hard to get out of the mindset, but this is fairly typical of how top-end Championship teams who aren't us do business.

I have to say I watched cannon for stoke against Burnley and he was far more of a threat in that game than our entire team and without much assistance
One moment where he outmuscled the defender to win a nothing long ball and got a good shot off was notable
And a few other occasions where he got quick shots off before defenders could close him down

I'd watched him. Before and not been overly Impressed but that game he was the stand out player on either team bad stoke were garbage

Remind me how Moore gets on with pens? remind me the last time we had a striker who scored 4 in a game...(it was our Lord Leon Clarke and I don't remember us taking those goals off his tally at the end of the season.
It goes like this...He's scored 9 in 22 games. Four of them in one game means 5 in 21, some of which were penalties! We already have four or five players with that kind of strike rate. Campbell's is better due to him not having played anywhere near that number. Cannon's rate is on a par with Hamer, who is a midfielder who hasn't yet taken any penalties.

“Proven” he’s scored 9 goals this season. 4 were penalties, 4 were in one match. He scored 8 the season before. On what realm is that proven 😂
I don't think he played that much at Leicester, he certainly didn't start very often.

9 goals in that Stoke side is decent, I'm not sure who their main creative players are other than that Koumas, but Cannon seems like the sort of player that would suit Hamer and O'Hare, who would likely create more chances for him than Stoke.

Hamer and O'Hare (O'Hare especially) seem to be at their most creative when playing with a striker who can get in behind, something we've seen when we play with Campbell as opposed to Moore.
