It's a ridiculous of money to spend on one player at this level. You could argue that we might have a lot more money to spend but under FFP I'd say that's unlikely.

It would also mean that we have Moore, Cannon and Campbell on our books for the start of next season. If we're going to spend heavily I would rather it would be on a CB. A position where we only have Anel on the books for the start of next season. we need to sign 4 more.
Maybe we are spending £10m on a CB ?

You are right though - CB is our achilles heel

Should have loaned him the summer.

I reckon the Mackems have bluffed us into this brave deal.

Turns out their offer was only ever a loan with obligation to buy only if promoted and it was never a formal bid.

We will now have to pay him PL wages for X years - big risk if we don't go up.

Hoping we are only taking this risk coz the 3 loans are of a quality to ensure promotion.

We now need to attack faster and create him some chances.
Aye
That’s the spirit
Choice between:
A) We’ve beaten (2)’ promotion rivals’ to the signing of an on demand forward
Or
B) We’ve been conned & mugged & spunked money on (unnecessary) wages

I’ll take a B please Bob
Tis the Sheffield United way

Watch his you tube reel
He is devastating cutting in off the right or left
We havent seen that side of him yet

I’ve seen it and I’m also aware the Stoke fans told us that he was at his best while cutting in from a slightly wider position.

However, I’m not sure that he suits our preferred system in a wide area.

He seems to look his best as a wide forward in what would be considered a 4321 formation where the two wide forwards are quite close to a traditional central forward.

We are favouring a 4231 style system this year, though a slightly imbalanced version using Hamer off the left.

Our system has the wider players further from the central forwards and seems to suit a more traditional style winger. Agility and beat a many types.

Campbell is fairly quick in a straight line and the best finisher at the club. However in terms of agility and dribbling he looks a bit clunky in possession. I can’t see him creating much from being that far out wide. Just one example is looking back to the Sunderland game. We were on a brake away and the ball was fed to Campbell in a wider area and he was reluctant to get on and try and beat his man. Made a hash of it. Played a poor pass off their player and Souttar ended up getting sent off in the aftermath.

You could argue that our players would suit a 4321 formation nicely with Davies and Hamer either side of Souza in the 3 and then 3 forwards operating closely together but we’ve yet to see that.

Because YT reels are always the way to scout players.

We've seen Campbell play as a striker this season. And he's done brilliantly. Putting him out wide would be a waste, when he's been the only one to really offer an option in behind central defences.
What a stupid take

If we do change to 4-4-2, with 3 new signings, go something like this.

---------------------Cooper
Gilchrist-Anel-*Omobamidele-Burrows
Brooks-------Hamer-----Souza-------*BBD
----------Campbell--------*Cannon

Bench: A Davies, Seriki, JLT, McCallum, Peck, T Davies, O'Hare, JRS, Moore

Wilder obviously loves O'Hare, who has been superb recently, so can't see him being benched anytime soon.

I would imagine it would be O'Hare behind one of Campbell or Cannon. Yes BBD drifting in from the left, especially if it means Gus can drop back alongside Vini.

Why would we be paying him Premier League wages when we’re a Championship club? I’d imagine it’ll be written into his contract that he gets a pay rise if we’re promoted.
Hasn't he got 42 months of a contract left with a PL club ?

Not remotely embarrassing for Sunderland fans after last night...
So, just got in from golf, factscas im seeing them (not caught up yet)…

1 we bid £7m
2 Sunderland came in with £13m via Klana
3 Leicester said full and final bids by noon
4 United bid £13m (deal)
5 no one else bid
6 Leicester have accepted the only bid submitted £6m up on our first bid
7 we have yet to agree terms with player so he’s not ours yet
8 no confirmed ✅

Someone’s had our pants down. Has Turry been doing negotiations?

He signed for them when they were a Championship club and he was only 20, so I doubt his contract will be huge.

There is also a good chance Leicester will be a Championship club and likely his money would’ve dropped had he stayed.

Well done on actually reading a thread

I don't hate it, but putting a goal machine on the left wing to cram in Cannon seems a bit of a waste
No, now we can flood players into box like an attacking side. BBD would come in from left and interchange.

For what my opinion is worth if Osula was worth a £10+ gamble having never scored or played regular EFL then Cannon is priced about right. Young, matches under his belt and has found the net in a poor team.

Welcome Tommy Cannon

I hope they intend to get a CB who's even better than Souttar
Not many obvious targets for CB in the domestic market but it seems like we do mean business this window so it’ll be interesting to see who we target.

Don’t say this is going to be another

Fri: He ours, all agreed, done deal
Sat: Nothing
Sun: Nothing
Mon: Still not signed but no issues, it’s a done deal
Tuesday: It’s all gone quiet, rumours from the doom mongerers on this site that it’s hit a snag and Sunderland have come in to gazump us.
Weds: Nixon reporting it’s still a done deal everything sorted apart from minor clauses….but nothing to worry about, he’s 100% ours.
Thurs: It’s all gone quiet again, has he had a medical yet? Rumours say he passed his medical the week before…so what’s holding things up?
Fri: It’s so close to being done, minor stuff that Wilder can’t divulge but he says Cannon should be available to play for us Saturday.
Again he insists that Cannon was keen on joining us from the start and it’s a player he’s tracked for several years so he’s delighted “he’s in the building”.

Friday afternoon, Failed medical

I am not saying I don't want him, but it's a hell of a lot of money to improve us marginally (if at all) when the bigger need is at the other end of the pitch. His stats are inflated by the fact that he scored 4 in one game and four or five penalties. His underlying stats are actually slightly worse than Moore's.
Remind me how Moore gets on with pens? remind me the last time we had a striker who scored 4 in a game...(it was our Lord Leon Clarke and I don't remember us taking those goals off his tally at the end of the season.
