The Premier League is properly wank however well you're doing, it's impossible to overstate how much VAR has ruined the match day experience.
Meanwhile in the championship

Personally don’t think we’ll spend anything this window apart from loan fees.

But you always say that every window
And predict we’ll lose every match.

Wonder why?

To be fair any significant signings are fraught with problems. We can pay big money for loans this season so will be an able to attract good players.

However we’ve no idea what our finances will be next season. If we fail to be promoted then we can’t afford many on big contracts.

I suppose the only way we’ll sign anyone permanent is if we allow a sell on clause if we fail to be promoted.

I'm not on about the perceived quality or otherwise of matches in general, I'm only concerned with the ones I attend in person. And the ones in the Premier League are atrocious fucking experiences as a direct result of VAR sucking all the fun from them.

Attending a Premier League match is immeasurably worse than going to one in the Championship.

I understand winning is better than losing. But in a relegation/promotion system. The goal is to be in the top section.
We may have to fail up there multiple times before we become competitive. But giving up on the top just because it was a bit shit last time isn't the right attitude IMO
Well, it isn’t really for you to dictate what is or isn’t the right attitude, is it.

If we were to become properly competitive in the PL I would enjoy it very much. If I ever had to watch us in Div 4 again, I would still enjoy matchdays. The ups & downs are what make the lifelong support of a team so compelling. Anyone who thinks there should be constant, unbroken progress & gets upset if there isn’t should probably think about taking up a different interest where there is a bit more certainty.

Anybody that doesn't want to play at the highest level is a idiot .

That might be true for a player…..
But not necessarily for a fan……
A fan (especially with a family) has the whole experience of the interactive factors of cost ,expectations ,social aspects
travel, atmosphere and a football fan imho appreciates integrity of the sport of football and all this is influenced by
the fan’s individual learned history
Having followed the Blades since 1966 I can tell you that I enjoyed my ‘football’ much more years ago
and I often enjoy my current ‘football’ more so (not always) when we have not been in the prem…. It’s variable as an experience
and not a black and white question….
and I don’t consider myself an idiot btw

with cannon starting and brereton on the bench today smells a bit like mcburnie might be on his way back and that worries me that ship sailed a few months ago

We have no say on who other teams start until a deal is agreed, so I'm really unsure why this keeps being said.

Also - Cannon did fuck all again I see!

I suppose at least that will give us closure on the season and we'll know for certain that the new ownership are utterly clueless as to what is needed to progress a good-sized football club towards the Premier League.

Personally, I don't yet believe that we'd be stupid enough to bring the useless lump back when the teams around us are using pace, positive movement, and clever tactics to keep pushing on.

We have the embarrassing and ineffectual Brewster and Moore at the moment, adding another 'tug-boat' like McBurnie to the squad will just ensure us as also-rans.

Nothing will have changed.

I think the point is that the ITK "Jamie Holland Says!" Intelligentsia said that Brereton-Diaz was definitely "done". If it was done in a literal sense he obviously wouldn't be playing for another team, but even if it was "done" in the "all agreed but not actually finalised" sense he probably wouldn't be on the bench and risk jeopardising the deal.

Of course, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that all these people were mistaken, as hard as that might be to believe.

Hoyland not Holland, fuck you phone.

Right obviously I'm not a fan of the lad (most obvious statement ever) but I'm genuinely intrigued how legitimate our interest is - Nixon saying Luton and Pigs in for him?

My take on prem, if just being an Everton or team that just stays up every year etc etc then I genuinely won’t be devastated if that never happens

If we go up and stay up then I will just take it as it is but the problem with just getting up and staying up is like a job you don’t like or even an arranged marriage that you can’t get out of, it’s more a case of you are just doing it because you have no other choice then it’s going to be crap

I think the lad is just this years version of young lad probably not good enough for prem but probably decent in champ so will get several teams interested

That’s not the goal though is it. EVERY team in the Champ wants to establish themselves in the PL and build a better infrastructure. After that you hope that one day the sqd you’ve assembled is good enough to push for European football, and who knows, maybe one day win a cup!

I very much doubt the pigs will get him.
There is a thread on Porktalk which after an interview with Rohl after yesterday's game, he says something like you'll find out in 11 days when asked about signings, which Wednesday fans have taken to mean the Fans forum, so dosent look like anything is happening for them signing wise.
Also they are saying a defender should be a priority if Chancer does find some money, after all scoring goals is not really a problem for them conceding goals definitely is.

Wednesday conceding goals will never be seen as a problem in my opinion. I welcome each and every one. Their problem at the back is that they seem to go in for the same sorts of players I.e. big lumps with limited mobility and then they throw in some shoddy wing backs I.e. marvellous Marvin, and sicknote Lowe.

He's a troll

That’s just not the reality though, look at Leicester and Wigan, one won a one off title and one a one of cup and both ended up relegated and in real financial trouble

It’s just the reality in all leagues, you have the usual suspects and you have the majority who just stay up the same

And if you want to change course and have sustained success then the amount you have to spend is so ludicrous that it potentially puts the club you love at risk

Seems a bit fractious they way he said it, not sure Tuna man is his favourite person

Unless someone buys him he will be staying at Stoke I wd think. There's no way Leicester will call him back to loan him to another Championahip side like Luton or the Pigs, what's the point? He getting game time and scoring goals and putting himself in the shop window.

There’s always going to be peaks and troughs, but what you’re suggesting is we should just accept mediocrity. So what’s the point?? That’s the wrong attitude… as far as I’m concerned of course.

Conceding goals is exactly what sausage roll said is stopping the piglets from getting higher in this league.

Leicester are not interested in reloaning him to another Championship club. Unless someone is prepared to pay a fee circa £8 million - he will be staying at Stoke City until the end of the season as originally planned.

No that’s not what I’m saying, I haven’t said I never ever want to get promoted, I’m saying the result of that promotion isn’t the rosey unrealistic dream you seem to think, that there are very few peaks and the vast vast majority of those who have those rare peaks always end up in the shit

So there is no accepting mediocrity, it’s just acknowledging that it’s far more fun trying to get up than just being another 3 points for the few teams who genuinely battle for the title

Because if for you just staying up and maybe winning a league cup is the dream then you are already existing on a level of mediocrity anyway, just a different level

I mean to just bring it back to my point about just enjoying football and not just being another win for more wealthy teams, have the pigs/Luton/Coventry/Wigan to name just a few, have they really had it better than us in last few decades

That’s not what you said originally though is it… you likened it to having a job you hate… or being stuck in a relationship that you don’t want to be in was it?
Nothing about enjoying football.
And furthermore… as if winning a cup is simply existing on another level of mediocrity! Come on now!

i like cannon and think he would do a job for us but if leicester are adamant that its 7/8m or nothing i very much doubt we will pay that think were more likely to go for the preston lad at maybe 3/4m if were signing any player on a permanent
