Ok, let's see at the end of next season. You and I decide if he is the one we should have signed.

I've not said we should have signed him. I said that overall he's a decent payer and that he's a decent signing for Norwich. I judge the pool of players that they can theoretically attract as being shallower than ours. We should be a different level of attractiveness than Norwich.

To reiterate, I wouldn't have wanted us to sign him on loan, as i think those two positions in the squad are critical to us surviving/thriving next season. It appears the DH is occuying one, and I would hope that the 2nd one is a 10+ season PL level forward.

Ok

Not if you ask Celtic fans

During the 16/17 season he scored 11 goals and had 19 assists in 47 games, so i'm surprised they think he's shit. He was injured the season after. Saying that the lad that celtic have got for next season, shved has the potetnial to be a bit special.

Well I read a Celtic forum and they weren’t so complementary , it’s a game of opinions there you go.

Roberts is a good player ,especially good at knitting the play in and around a packed penalty area .would have been a good choice for us as a Duffy type player but would have been a risk

Its one thing unpicking the lock vs st mirren and Aberdeen it's another thing entirely vs man city and Liverpool

I'll play devils advocate for the bites !!!
there have been 3 premier league transfers this summer according to the BBC

Lloyd Kelly to Bournemouth
Jonass Losl to Everton
Roberto to West Ham

So the Blades recruitment is in line with 17 other sides and obviously miles behind these 3. Why do we have to do this every Summer

Just for a laugh I will play devils advocate...for the bites of course!!

It's worth pointing out that 17 other sides already have premiership squads, we dont and at present we only have 2 forwards. So we have a much greater need to recruit and with the ongoing court case I can see why some may be getting anxious.

I think we will be fine but the announcement of a McBurnie or Watkins would be most welcome !

Worth checking the diary to see when the first signing occurred last summer. We’re a fair few weeks off that.
The flip side to that is that we’re in a different league, a lot better league and it will be more difficult to bring in the standard of player we need. An interesting few months ahead for us as I see us needing not far off 10 players.

Max squad size in the Prem is 25. Bringing in almost half a new squad? Just can’t see that happening - we’d need £60m-£70m at least.

Madine, Hendo, Johnson, Coutts, Dowell, Clarke, Cranie and Washington need replacing, infact I’m pretty sure we only have 16 players on our books?

We need 9 then which is not far off the 10 I suggested.

The minimum I can see now is 7 signings like this, but it would be quite unsatisfactory and leave gaps.

GK first choice - Henderson?
CB who can play wing back - Holgate?
LCB and LWB cover - Barbet?
CM - Fer?
AM who can do Duffy's role - Freeman?
CF/WF - Watkins?
CF focal point - Gallagher?

I think we need to be looking at 8 or 9 at least, really.

And we didn't spend any money at all until mid-July. Of players who actually made an impact last year:

Dean Henderson - signed June 18th
John Egan - signed July 19th
David McGoldrick - signed July 24th
Oliver Norwood - signed August 13th
Martin Crainie - signed August 31st

You made my point for me ;)

That’s all well and good but we’re in a league with the top boys now which makes all the difference.

I’m not saying we’re going to struggle to bring players in but it’s going to be a lot harder than what’s been made out by some.

Does Roberto know about this.

I think for us it could happen quite late.

We want players who can do a job at the top level.

We're not going to be first choice for many of those as we are new to the PL and with little recent history there.

I think this will be Chris and Alan's toughest summer as we're going to be dealing with demands which at times are astronomical given we are a PL club and everyone wants a slice. I'd be more than happy to be raiding the likes of Bolton for Connell and Brockbank(?), But such is the degree of data out there these days there are few hidden gems to be plucked from nowhere like perhaps a few decades back.
Careful Champers.

No room for common sense on this board, it's all about emotion innit

What concerns me a tad is that it usually takes Wilder a couple of games to properly asses the squad for that year. Some of our most crucial signings have been made after the start of the season. In the League One it was Moore replacing Long. Last season it was Norwood for Evans. With the window closing before we kick a ball next season, he won't have that luxury.

What about the possibility that we have already signed someone, but for reasons we are not privy to,the signing has not been announced.I know for a fact that Stoke City have signed Lee Gregory, but have not announced it yet.

I think in United's case this suggestion has merit, we've allowed players who've done well for us to leave and for example it would be better to have Crainie on the books than nobody, unless somebody was ready to step in.

Whaaaaaaaat !!!!!!!!!
We've been gazumped by the Potter(er)s for Gregory !?
How did that happen ?????????

He's a Blade !
He's out of contract !!
He's a (centre) forward !!!!
He's been linked with us for 'yonks' !!!!!!
Millwall fans really rate him !!!!!!!
He's a Wilder type player ( no nonsense ; humble origins etc)
He scored more than Leon (& Madine) last season

The Board MUST explain at once & do the decent thing and resign afore Tufty ( & Knill (& Bettis))) walk for having their hands tied

I blame McCabe

Ps Sean Dyche seen in Copthorne (again) - reckon that's Fleck & Norwood gone - no doubt for ' next to nowt'
