The main issue being, £30k a week for Thomas Graveson wouldn't be one i'd like to take with our money. Thing is also, the rest of the squad will want parity with that. For less per week, fair enough, but personally I don't think it'd be good value.

If my employer set someone on to do a job similar to me but on much higher wages, but this person was far better qualified with more experience and far better at it than me then there'd be no justification for me to storm into his office and demand to be on equal pay.

its a good point foxy, and i agree with the £30k point. By paying this to him we are in fact valueing him as the top player at the club, to which certain players would be very agreeved, not to mention the situation with new signings that could come in and also players that are currently agreeing new deals.

If they are going to sign him, then i would suggest making him equal with the top earner, or higher to an agreed figure, with the clause in the contract the upon promotion to the prem he would then receive such wages. This would be the best situation i feel.

Try to find some middle ground. (Although granted a similar clause would then be insisted on by existing players and also new signings. Therefore i have countered my own argument..............DAMN ME!!!!! )

But should that point be whilst we are in the Championship and no guarantee of being promoted?

Had this come around last January or begining of last season, I would have welcomed it with open arms. But let's face it, on 30k a week he would probably be the highest earner in the Championship by far.

Imo, a signing of such stature would have more or less kept you in the prem, and if other players in the team are not happy with the wages of a certain player, then they shouldn't be playing.

No matter what occupation, whether it be footballer or groundsman, if your better at your job than others, you are going to get paid more.

And from the bold section i hightlighted, i believe you sooner or later will have to start taking slight gambles on such players, if like someone else said, you want to avoid being a yoyo club, and concrete your self, in the top division

It depends do we want to be a yoyo club pissing money away on the Akinbiyi's of the footballing world or do we want to be a prem team actually trying to challenge for something.

At the moment, we aren't in the top division. If we get reinstated then fair enough, spend money on transfers and Premiership wages. If however we do not get reinstated then thirty grand a week for a player in the Fizzypopship is a hell of a lot of money that may be better spent on the wages of two or more players.

Gravesen has struggled to make an impact in Scotland since his £2million move from Real Madrid last summer, and has frequently been linked with a move away from the club.


And, while his agent claims that he would love to stay at Celtic, he insists the midfielder will have no choice but to consider a move away if he does not start to get some first-team action.

Thomas Gravesen has returned to Everton on a season-long loan from Celtic, just over two years after his shock move to Real Madrid.


The 31-year-old Dane was always a favourite of the Goodison Park faithful but since quitting Merseyside, his career has endured somewhat of a downturn in fortune.

Everton boss David Moyes has been in the market for a midfielder ever since his move for Manuel Fernandes from Benfica collapsed at the weekend.

Gravesen, who never really established himself at Celtic, is delighted to be back.

"I am really looking forward to coming back to Everton, it is a chance to play top-flight football in the Premier League again," he said.
