£3 million and £30k a week is too much. He is a quality player, but why would we suddenly start wazzing money away when we've been so careful in the past? For that amount of dosh I don't care if he's good with the ball, off the ball or up a stepladder with a paintbrush, it's too much.

And if we stick with that attitude we're never going to be a big club.

Yes, by all means, learn from the mistakes of the Pigs, Weeds, and Scabs, but let's get things into perspective.

Sensible contracts can still allow us to pay higher wages, and if it means that we're going to become a team who can attract bigger and better players, why not? McCabe himself has said that he wants to see us in Europe. That's not going to happen if we pay players peanuts and are unwilling to take risks, I'm afraid.

thats a very valid argument, to which i cant really find a counter

The main issue being, £30k a week for Thomas Graveson wouldn't be one i'd like to take with our money. Thing is also, the rest of the squad will want parity with that. For less per week, fair enough, but personally I don't think it'd be good value.

If my employer set someone on to do a job similar to me but on much higher wages, but this person was far better qualified with more experience and far better at it than me then there'd be no justification for me to storm into his office and demand to be on equal pay.

Sadly, with all due respect. You aren't an ego led young man with lots of bad influences & an agent trying to make as much money out of you as possible.

its a good point foxy, and i agree with the £30k point. By paying this to him we are in fact valueing him as the top player at the club, to which certain players would be very agreeved, not to mention the situation with new signings that could come in and also players that are currently agreeing new deals.

If they are going to sign him, then i would suggest making him equal with the top earner, or higher to an agreed figure, with the clause in the contract the upon promotion to the prem he would then receive such wages. This would be the best situation i feel.

Try to find some middle ground. (Although granted a similar clause would then be insisted on by existing players and also new signings. Therefore i have countered my own argument..............DAMN ME!!!!! )

I give up, i cant think of a way of signing him and also keeping the peace :(

I might be... :)

I was sort of pretending we lived in an ideal world for a minute, where footballers didn't act like children and they actually lived in the real world.

At some point though, if we're going to make the jump from yo-yo club to mid-table mediocrity and then top 8 this issue is going to have to be addressed.

But should that point be whilst we are in the Championship and no guarantee of being promoted?

Had this come around last January or begining of last season, I would have welcomed it with open arms. But let's face it, on 30k a week he would probably be the highest earner in the Championship by far.

Exactly. We went down that road with Kendall, and look at how long it took to recover.

Imo, a signing of such stature would have more or less kept you in the prem, and if other players in the team are not happy with the wages of a certain player, then they shouldn't be playing.

No matter what occupation, whether it be footballer or groundsman, if your better at your job than others, you are going to get paid more.

And from the bold section i hightlighted, i believe you sooner or later will have to start taking slight gambles on such players, if like someone else said, you want to avoid being a yoyo club, and concrete your self, in the top division

Exactly we have to take gambles although true in the past alot of our gambles have bitten us in the arse.

It depends do we want to be a yoyo club pissing money away on the Akinbiyi's of the footballing world or do we want to be a prem team actually trying to challenge for something.

At the moment, we aren't in the top division. If we get reinstated then fair enough, spend money on transfers and Premiership wages. If however we do not get reinstated then thirty grand a week for a player in the Fizzypopship is a hell of a lot of money that may be better spent on the wages of two or more players.

Yeh loan would be better than signing especialy with the wages :)

It is possible that back in the Fizzy Pop League, Tonge could get some confidence back. I honestly think that in the promotion year, he was a marked man, and his head dropped, and never recovered.

Ok, you could say that if he were of such quality, he should have risen above it, but if he can bounce back, we have a creative midfielder at the moment.

Just a thought.

Actually I think Tonge has real talent but he needs somebody to play with and Monty aint it.

Agent: Gravesen may leave
Gravesen's agent says the player may have to leave Celtic
By Robin Hackett Last updated: 8th August 2007

Gravesen has struggled to make an impact in Scotland since his £2million move from Real Madrid last summer, and has frequently been linked with a move away from the club.

And, while his agent claims that he would love to stay at Celtic, he insists the midfielder will have no choice but to consider a move away if he does not start to get some first-team action.

"The only reason that Thomas has stayed with Celtic is because of how much he loves the club," Sivebaek told the Scottish Sun.

"He thinks the club is fantastic and the fans are fantastic.

"The only thing missing is he's not playing football. He's not getting a chance and it's my personal opinion he is being frozen out.

"He's frustrated right now, but he accepts the situation, even if he does find it very strange.

"If, come the next transfer window, he's not playing, we'd have to consider our options."

Worth going back after him perhaps ?

Think he may be more tempted to come now we have signalled our intention with Beattie.

Fuck him, he had his chance. Let the slaphead play for Celtic reserves against John O'Groats papergirls.

agree 100% he got offered good money and he started to be a twat so he can rot and never play first team football, Hendrie took his place now

Gravesen back at Toffees
Thomas Gravesen has returned to Everton on a season-long loan from Celtic, just over two years after his shock move to Real Madrid.

The 31-year-old Dane was always a favourite of the Goodison Park faithful but since quitting Merseyside, his career has endured somewhat of a downturn in fortune.

Everton boss David Moyes has been in the market for a midfielder ever since his move for Manuel Fernandes from Benfica collapsed at the weekend.

Gravesen, who never really established himself at Celtic, is delighted to be back.

"I am really looking forward to coming back to Everton, it is a chance to play top-flight football in the Premier League again," he said.
