Micky Adams came in and replaced Jamie Ward, Leon Britton and Kyle Bartley with a completely broken and finished Marcus Bent, Michael Doyle and Neil Collins.

Certainly smoothened the transition to being a league one team.

Chris Wilder has a much more well rounded managerial experience and skill than Micky Adams, he’s got a difficult job but as long as he moves us away from the relation zone over the next 10-15 games he should be given the freedom to complete a crucial rebuild of the squad. At the very least we’ve got a very young squad with a number of talented if frustrating individuals

We have far better players in this squad than the Adams squad, there’s a good possibility we cash in on Tubby Little Gus in January though so we need some points on the board before then.
If the rest of them had any backbone we'd probably be a better team without Hamer. He's great most of the time but woeful for the rest and out of possession he's liable to do something stupid. 5 bookings in 7 matches (post Bristol City, the only match he's not been cautioned in was the half hour cameo at Ipswich) tells its own story.

We have a better keeper, did back at that time we had Simmo and Long to choose from, also we have Hamer who even though he’s been poor this season can still provide an odd moment of magic.

However otherwise a lot of similarities

Weak centre backs, none existent full back defensively, Centre midfield players with no creativity, strikers who don’t score goals …

Is frightening how similar the problems are

You could just about forgive it if he was some sort of hard man enforcer (a la Vinnie Jones), taking a booking to make life easier for everyone around him. But Hamer's bookings tend to achive nothing at all, and are so, so avoidable.

Couldn't agree more. He's the final piece of the jigsaw not the foundation of the team.

Issue with cashing in, is who will pay that kind of money for him? Maybe we need a bidding war between Wrexham and Birmingham!! I know he still lives down near Warwick so might suit all parties if Tom Brady fancies splashing more cash!

If we fail to win at Oxford, I really do worry where our next win is going to come from.

We really need something at Oxford even if it’s only a point.. I don’t fancy us against Southampton or away at Hull at all.

For me its like we've forgot how to attack, so nobody fears us, its like the opposition wait for us to run out of ideas, make a mistake and let them in, they get 1 goal and they get all three points.

We seem too worried about the counter attack so we dont take decisions to cross it or shoot, but when other clubs do it sometimes the ball goes in the net and you dont have to worry about the counter attack.

It’s not fear it’s just good coaching against a completely predictable pattern of play.

  • defend deep and narrow
  • double up on wingers and force the ball backwards
  • when the ball is turned over drop it behind whichever full back has pushed on (usually Burrows)
  • get one of your quickest players to chase it.

We do our clever little passing triangles near the corner flag while the defending team waits for us to get a f**king move on and do something.

Dodgy defence and failure to create chances/have shots on target is a recipe for disaster! Hopefully Wilder can use some of his magic for Saturday.

We now have better players but we have a bloated squad. We need to find the right system. I think we should bring back 352. I prefer to play two up front rather than just one up front and then the conversion rate would be better. Playing with a back 4 we dont have the full backs to contain tricky wingers

Whilst today's squad is better, it's relative. The standard of championship football has improved markedly in the last 10–15 years. Adams' team would struggle to compete at League One level, today. Are there three worse teams than us in the current league? The fact that Wednesday's kids are 4 points better off than us highlights, the huge, huge, task Wilder has. Like others, genuinely worried, how this could unravel.

I do wonder whether he racks them up on purpose to secure a few days off during the season!!

The keeper is key. I still think we might have survived that year with a proper one.

We need to do what Howard Kendall did. Back then we were bottom of the league and he tightened up the defence so we started to get draws. I seem to recall 4 of his first games were draws and confidence grew in the team. CW needs to build back the confidence in this talented but mentally weak bunch of players.

We are in trouble we have a very technically competent team with 0 attitude, fight or resilience … three things you need in a relegation battle we will be league 1 soon.

And this isn’t just COH it’s been coming for years through lack of serious investment over the last few years … massively relying on being in the prem and parachute payments

The £20 mil investment last time we went up was an absolute joke and now it’s come home to roost

Oxford are just going to offer up the same game as what Charlton did,but they are going to have home advantage.
Unless there is a significant improvement in our players quality and application to what's needed as individuals and as a team,I can see us being chased and harried into the mistake making,no heart bunch we've become and being put under pressure for most of the game.

Based on current form and fitness levels he won’t be going for what we’d have got a couple of months ago. I do think he has something lined up though, no other explanation for his performances this season.
