Hard to believe I know but.....
But what about a fairly incompetent one?Let’s theoretically say I was a journalist at the Star, and was tasked with making this story, which had been duplicated across the rest of the league, localised to United. Before I even started editing it, I’d look to see what football finance experts had already commented on it. Anything like this is picked up and commented on by Kieran Maguire pretty rapidly, and he made it fairly clear that the wage “doubling” in the accounts was actually down to promotion bonuses and tied to their expected future revenue. It would not have taken even a fairly lazy journalist to have found this.
Not if we don’t finish theThose figures don’t take into account promotion bonuses either, and as mentioned in the video we’re now getting Premier League money of approx £120m plus.
Poor journalism by the Star.
Not if we don’t finish the season we don’t
Well how about we just take the money for the 3/4 of s season we have played, I don't know how we'll manage on just 90 million quid. Not if we don’t finish the

I would dispute that figure since even for the bottom club guaranteed money (equal share) only makes up 90% of the total up to first place about 65% (the other being made up of prize money and TV income). I'd still like to see the league finished but if it doesn't and Sky only pay for what they got, it should not be a hardship for Sheffield United or any other prudent club. Villa would be in the shit. We’ll still be looking at a shortfall of around £50m. Our budget won’t have taken that into account.

My point being we won't have (if we've continued with our previous prudence) spent the position or the TV money yet as these weren't a given, budgets will have been set I assume for transfers and capital projects but these can be deferred. We don't live hand to mouth now we are in the Premiership.
I wouldn't dispute that (entirely). I'd imagine most clubs spent the pre season money on transfer fees and wages, I can't recall correctly or find it online but wasn't there a payment early in January with the residue owed at the end of the season, I'd suspect most clubs would be financially comfortable on monies already received with the rest of the funds for team improvements, of course this is just speculation.I'd suggest wages, running costs and transfer fees committed to will already have eaten into the money already received.
Not only does it put money we get in jeopardy as tv firms could sue for not fulfilling obligations and so could not pay out. If the league is not finished all clubs could lose final placing money in our case around 30m poundWe’ll still be looking at a shortfall of around £50m. Our budget won’t have taken that into account.
We, like every Premier League club, need to finish the season.
