I'm afraid the arrival of the internet and the explosion of social media seems to have had an adverse effect on the quality of journalism coming from traditional media, like regional newspapers especially. Gone are the days when local journalists would be "newshounds", always on the lookout for a good story - and they would visit the local football clubs on a regular basis, get to know the manager and the players, and have great insight into what was going on.

I'm not being critical of our local journo's in particular, but I'm making a general point, that the source of information has changed, there is just so much information available over the internet, and there are millions of folks who fancy themselves as budding journo's, all trying to jump in on the act. So, a lot of the stuff that gets "published" is just crap. Poorly researched, misleading, inaccurate, uninformed.

I enjoyed the video above. I don't agree with the lad's view that Watford and West Ham aren't our rivals. Every team in the Prem are our rivals - but apart from that, then I thought he did a good job of explaining everything.

I would dispute that figure since even for the bottom club guaranteed money (equal share) only makes up 90% of the total up to first place about 65% (the other being made up of prize money and TV income). I'd still like to see the league finished but if it doesn't and Sky only pay for what they got, it should not be a hardship for Sheffield United or any other prudent club. Villa would be in the shit.

We were probably prudent based on the TV, match day and sponsorship income which we thought was guaranteed. But now it’s in doubt, it would be a huge dent to the club’s cash flow. Even if it’s a £25m drop, that is still a huge figure.

The Burnley chairman said they will run out of money by August if football doesn’t return and they are a club which made a profit the last three years. So I’d be amazed if we’re not in a similar situation or worse.

Yes Blade's figure is a realistic quote. We are due one final payment of £20m from Sky plus the end of season final position prize money. Based on our present 7th place it will be around £25m plus around £5m revenue lost from 4 outstanding Home games and you get to £50m. So its sensible to assume we are likely to experience the same losses as Burnley in terms of revenue. Add in the fact no season ticket money is coming in at the moment without taking into account the pending Arbitration Hearing and we are going to experience a significant financial hit.

Whilst the Stir has achieved its usual standard of journalistic incompetence they are at least right with the headline that is why IMO its important that the Club are able to agree wage deferrals with all playing staff and senior management over the next few months to deal with this unique situation.

I'm not watching the video, can't be bothered. I've generally defended the Star but their recent stance to limit the free articles was the turning point. Maybe they had to do that for financial reasons, but I can survive without their info and Sheffield Untited News generally covers everything the Star says anyway. I wouldn't dispute that (entirely). I'd imagine most clubs spent the pre season money on transfer fees and wages, I can't recall correctly or find it online but wasn't there a payment early in January with the residue owed at the end of the season, I'd suspect most clubs would be financially comfortable on monies already received with the rest of the funds for team improvements, of course this is just speculation.

Not only does it put money we get in jeopardy as tv firms could sue for not fulfilling obligations and so could not pay out. If the league is not finished all clubs could lose final placing money in our case around 30m pound
