I always love the way WBA fans/players/staff etc try to adopt a holier than thou attitude in regards to that day, as if they were in no way responsible for any of what went off. As if Megson wasn't guilty of playing Andy Johnson. As if Andy Johnson wasn't guilty of forearm smashing Georges Santos in March 2001. As if Santos didn't need titanium plates inserted in his cheeks.

As I've said before on another thread, the only thing wrong with Santos' tackle was that it wasn't 6 inches higher.

As if Megson didn't send Johnson off down the tunnel where he knew Santos had been sent minutes earlier.
As if Megson didn't insist that he would fight against the match being replayed when nobody had even suggested it was a possibility.
As if McInnes didn't say something (possibly racist?) to make Suffo lose his head.

Haven't ever heard anything that would suggest Suffo was provoked. He was however banned for 8 months for attacking a referee earlier in his career.

I always thought McInnes must have said something bad and it riled Suffo.

Santos should have just punched his fucking gypo lights out and walked off the pitch

I've read better prescriptions than that sh*te.

I remember the "aerial challenge" where Santos got hurt, and I was surprised Johnson wasn't arrested for assault.

Reminds me why I hate West Brom. I'm trying to think of a team starting with W that I do

How Moore wasn't sent off I don't know. The funniest thing for me was Curle committing about ten bookable offences but the ref not daring to send him off. Each foul was more ridiculous than the one before. I left the lane chuckling to be honest. It was weird and I had to laugh at the outrageous event. I didn't feel shame or the rage that many blades did.

I also remember someone stealing a WBA flag off the away end and darting into H block. I'd like to hear an account from one of their fans too cos it looked a bit hairy leaving the away end that day.

I know a couple of baggies and they are decent. Strange place that lends itself to enjoying beer and footy as the town is culturally deprived and shit. They're more self depreciating than we are (or were). I watched Bruce's utd get spanked 4-1 on their kop.

credit to him for not being a nob about it now. i havent seen the original tackle on Santos, but i fail to see how anything justifies that. cant he just shout 'after the game' to all his team mates like we used to get every week in the Donny sunday league. just no honour in football now if ur not looking over ur shoulder in the car park.

Well, I'm sorry to say this, but that write-up is a load of total boo-larks; not in its historical accuracy so much (although it misses so much detail out), but just that it reads like a pile of shite. Is this guy really a journalist?

As for the Battle of Bramall Lane, I loved it; as I said at the time, the best 81 minutes of entertainment I ever saw at Bramall Lane.

im not gonna get thanked for this, but why in the world did warnock bring santos on? nevermind all the other issues, we had nothing to play for. what exactly was the point? he isn't a stupid man. he must have spent a lot of time around him, and known how bitter he was about it. forget johnson, is it right to basically let one of your own players end his career at the club in this way? either at best for no reason, ie he didnt think it through, or at worst he did it deliberately to get a bit of revenge. part of a managers responsibility is looking after your own players in my book.

I think Warnock said to him to not do owt stupid which unfortunately he did. Kind of explains why Santos never played for us again considering he told NW he was alreyt with it and then ran on and did that. I don't think he would have been brought on otherwise.

Cant say I remember the Johnson on Santos challenge but it does sound like it was a nasty one. Anything that requires plates in the face is. From the accounts from people on here it seems there was genuine intent from Johnson to hurt Santos so I suppose he was always going to do something over the top. This kind of reminds me of the Roy Keane and Haaland episode. It was clear Keane wanted to get back at him and he was just waiting for the chance to get his own back.

We were outplayed on the day there is no doubt about that but I dont think it would have been as bad had it been a closer game. I think at the time NW was just interested in getting rid of the deadwood and it just gave him an excuse to get rid of two players that couldnt hold down a regular starting spot.
