System Down

Personally speaking I haven't had any issues or reason to moan since the introduction of the loyalty points system and internet sales

I've never really worked out what time tickets go on sale on the date published... but apart from that, never really had a problem.

I can understand if the credit card machine wasn't working, but were they not accepting cash either? Surely they should have some kind of fallback system that allows you to hand over a couple of ten pound notes in return for a ticket.

As far as choosing your seat goes, surely that could be done using an offline system. Or in a worst-case scenario, they could have a few "backup" tickets that are already printed, and you could take your pick from those.

I offered to pay cash but apparently the still couldn't issue a ticket because the system doesn't allow it - I would have still had to go back and collect my ticket when the system got up and running again !

When I first went to the Lane they could deal with big crowds 40-50,000+ with pay at the turnstile method and that was fifty+ years ago ( and several get rich quick gatemen) Oh for the good old days !

Apart from the time when I went to collect QPR FA Cup tickets and after one hour searching they found them in the file for Scunthorpe game (match was postponed due to snow on roads) !!!

I got through to the Ticket Office yesterday without problem. The friendly and helpful lass told me there was a "problem with the system" and that she would take my money and something waffle waffle waffle. I really should listen more carefully. She then told me to write down the letters for the row and seat number, which I did, I don't think I've had to do that before. Problem I have, is not knowing whether the tickets will be sent by post or waiting for me at the ticket office, either or its not a problem for me. Not sure what time postal delivery is round our way but you can see my dilemma tomorrow, if I leave home and go to the ticket office and then find out the tickets have been sent by post ?

Tsk. Should be Windows NT for anything business related. It's as bomb proof as a jehaddist's passport...

yes, agree totally - NT was fab, so was Novell and Sco Unix in it's day which is where I started which predated all the MS stuff.
Work in IT and came across someone recently still with Windows 98 and a dial up modem - that tested the memory banks!

So, if this problem has been running for two days already whose to say that it will be resolved before 3-00 pm tomorrow ?
Knowing Sheffield United FC past experiences and the fact their PR is rubbish at best, will they be putting out a statement of how one who has 'paid' for a ticket for tomorrows game yet has not been provided with a ticket, actually gets into the ground.
Or put another way when will the Ticket Office Manager (or stand in Manager) extricate their head from out of their arse and tell their 'customers' what to do in the event of this glitch becoming a crisis !!!

"Why blame a PM?? This looks like an ops issue within BAU....blame the Ops Manager who should look to mitigate risk around IT failure by having a plan B (manual procedure) that can be implemented in the event of this................and don't say it cant be done........it can... it just needs a bit of blue-sky thinking!!!..............................""

I like this game.....reminds me so much of some of the previous jobs I have done !!!

I emailed the club at 8am. Setting off for the match in 30 mins still haven't had the courtesy of a reply. Oh well. I'll have to go to the ticket office and if they say they've sent my ticket by post then I'll have to see what they can do
