The amount of people who put a former manager above a club they've apparently supported all their life is beyond me.

I wish him no ill-will, but if he's going to events because he was our manager and then slagging the club off he can get to fuck.
The event didnt interest me, but I'm not really comfortable with people making assumptions, without proof, that Wilder must be talking shit about the club. I've criticised Wilder loads but he's done enough for the club to command more respect than that

Even the comments made by his close friends, the real ones that is, have hardly given away anything in the way of “secrets. The thought that he’d gossip to a stranger, bad mouthing the club/owner, when he still has a long career ahead of him is nonsensical.

I’m disappointed in how it ended, as is everyone but as you say, respect for what he achieved here.

Bassett is fondly remembered but the end of his tenure here was pretty dire.

ls the great John Harris the only one with an unblemished record?

the only firm since the turn of the century has been SYP, but the woke cancel history culture is alive and thriving on this forum it would seem. They will be telling us he is Tommy Robinsons right hand man next, deary me.

Only if your dog was there with you .

Tried. Wouldn’t let him in. Showed his vaccination certificate as well.

He's been tasked with filling the hole in the roof and all he's got to fill it with are excess left backs and strikers!

The hole in the roof!
You can bet someone cornered Chris at the event and given the chance to ask a question, wanted to know exactly how big it was!

That sounds like a terrible gap year...!
Bearlie apologies mate. I posted what I thought was a humorous one liner as I read through this thread as I occasionally do to add some levity to proceedings.

Only later did you mention you lost men in your batalion. I'm sorry to read this, respect your service to your country, putting your lives on the line so others may roam free, often taking that freedom for granted.

No offense meant. Cheers 👍

I'm amazed something like this has got the air time it had.

Don't tell me Lundstram's lack of tracking back and Norwood's wayward passing can be attributed to a slow dripping in a room they spend probably less than an hour a day in.

Anyone would think it's an endless Chinese Water Torture they've been subjected to.

I'm working from home and one of the kitchen cabinets has got a bit rotten through water dripping and the hinges keep slipping off. It doesn't really give me carte blanche to do a shit job for my employer though!

That is if Wilder has got anything to say, if the Prince had been telling porkies I think we would have heard about it by now.

These Wilder disciples just can't let it go probably most of the same crew who fawned over Kevin McCabe.

As regards Steve Cowans his past is in the past (a good 15 years) the only firm since the turn of the century has been SYP, but the woke cancel history culture is alive and thriving on this forum it would seem. They will be telling us he is Tommy Robinsons right hand man next, deary me.

Well, Wilder has a lot of friends in Blades/Sheffield circles. It doesn't make you a "disciple" or anti Sheffield United, Prince or anything else because you still like and trust CW. I hope we do well just as much as I ever have done. I don't see the connection between CW and McCabe (I presume you mean Kevin?), sorry. Cowens is entitled to do what he wants within the contraints of law; if people don't like him, don't buy his book or attend his events would be my advice. Live and let live...

You know nothing of the life of those you interact with on the internet.

The majority of footballers go from being in the spotlight, well paid, living a blue-ticked, celeb-like lifestyle before fading in to nothingness after retirement. That will be hard to take for some. A night out with a bunch of football fans who used to watch them would be a welcome trip down memory lane.

Especially if they’re paid to be there. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thought he was going as a friend / mate of the author?. Certain I read it somewhere they are good mates. If one of my mates had written a book I hope I would be invited to the launch.
Has for slagging off the club, who doesn’t slag work colleagues off ?. But same as you ; I wish him no ill feelings and thank him for what he did, but now I fully back the new management team. UTB

Would you like your £2m pay out in cash or cheque?

To be clear, I’ll forever love CW for what he did, genuinely at the peak of it we toyed with teams in a way I haven’t seen in 30 years as a supporter. For me the disappointment came when we went defensive, then he became defensive of being defensive. Honestly, he wouldn’t have had to do much to still be here, even as bad as last year was, such was the credit he had in the bank.

He just seemed completely unable to admit fault, which meant his ego (or some such) couldn’t let him try something else. We all felt that sense of dread each match day, knowing it was going to be the same line-up, trying the same ‘Wilderball’ but a bastardised version, missing key ingredients that made it work. The current manager clearly believes he can deploy several formations with the same group of players.

Then, when CW started taking pot shots at the board, the fans, etc it’s only going to end one way unfortunately. I think he’ll be back in football soon enough, but I hope he reflects on the last 12 months to see where blindingly obvious improvements can be made.

Pretty much my feelings to a tee that as well. Forever a legend and the greatest times ive had following the Blades.
Just wish he could have held his hands up , admit failings, and instead of taking snide shots at his boss, work with him and be determined to put it right the year after.

None of the ‘untruths’ that may or may not have been uttered, had any bearing on the diabolical performance of the management team or players last year. Stubborn inability to change a flatlining formation, atrocious in-game management and substitutions, inconsistent treatment of players, turgid, defensive football, mardy, antagonistic interviews, awful, narrow recruitment and value for money, promised front foot attacking football, yet snuck out through a small cracked bathroom window etc etc. If the Prince told a few porky pies to Sky, I don’t see how it changes any of the above one bit.
This should have been stuck on the big CW flag at Steve's doo 😃

👏👏👏👏

I wanted him to stay even though his decision making, lambasting of the fans and of the board were terrible last season. He was the best man for the job this season even in the midst of last seasons really poor showings, the Prince even wanted him to stay, it all ended with loads of questions and no answers as usual, very prematurely too.

I hope he gets a decent job for his next one but how he handled last season won’t have done him any favours as even though his tenure was ultimately a good one that’s what will be fresh in the mind of many potential takers.

Thanks Chris for the unbelievable memories and days out, those won’t be taken away from me.

Depends what you mean by unblemished, Harris went on to work for Jack Charlton at Wednesday.

Reading the Green Un Archives some years ago I did find some criticisms in fans' letters about Harris sticking to his policy about playing youth players rather than go on the transfer market even though the board tried to make him sign players. He was heavily criticised by the shareholders at the AGM in 1965. Also in March and April 1970 a lot of fans wrote to the Green Un saying that we lost our chance of going up because Harris picked Addison as the striker instead of Tudor.
