Always find it amusing that when there’s a suggestion we want a player certain folk are talking the player up…then when that player inevitably goes elsewhere they then play him down and question if we were ever in for him in the first place.
Like it’s hard to accept players would choose others over us.

Just the bi-annual merry-go-round mate.

Complain about missing out on players that we may not even be interested in, but also suggest anyone who doesn't end up coming couldn't possibly have been lined up.

Anyone suggests that they have it on good authority we're looking at player x. Player x doesn't end up signing and it can't possibly have fallen through. Said poster just has to be full of shit.

I find it hard to believe anyone would choose anyone over us. It's probably the prem intimidating them into going else where. Everyone has it out for us

Here we go

And another one

Gone elsewhere is the trend it seems ... not very encouraging.

Here we go

The problem is players want to live in London, it’s just a fact of life and unless you’re one of the two Manchester clubs or Liverpool, you are always going to struggle to attract players to come and play their football in the north.

No footballer in his right mind would choose QPR over us for footballing reasons, why play for an inferior team in front of hardly any fans when they could sign for us and financially I doubt QPR could compete with us on that front.

So what now? Do we just sign nobody or go for our plan E choices? Like Wilder got maligned for when the club couldn't secure his first, second, third or fourth choice targets and we signed dross like Burke.

We may just be throwing money at shit again at this point, if we truly had all these players we've "missed out on" as targets.

Money talks but to go from Arsenal to Burnley is a shocker. If I were him we’d have been the more attractive proposition in terms of location, crowds and atmosphere and stadium.
You are joking, right?

Going to a club who have spent the last however many years in the EPL with recognisable players, high wages, top notch training facilities, a famous manager and a short hop from Manchester? Being able to live near world class players?

Or is?

It could be far more simple than this.

Burnley have just lost Tarkowski and Mee.

We still have Basham, Egan and Robinson, the latter being left footed.

It's easier to get into their team.

But not THE Money or a manager many regarded as one of the best in his position

I think people are struggling to understand this.

Also, I’m sure Kompany would be attractive for any young defender to learn from.

Finally, like it or not, Burnley have been a Premier League side for much of this lad’s life. He’ll probably see them as a bigger draw than us.

Exactly. It's not just a simple proposition. The overall package of just out of PL and having obvious vacancy is an attractive one.

It's not easy to essentially recruit a player when your honest expectation is that in a realistic scenario they'll be on the bench or playing in cup games and possibly filling in for injury.

He's not competing with two players who are in squad rotation roles. He'd be competing with players who are fixtures in the team and have been for some time.

It would be better to go for say Sanderson because he could compete for RCB, CB and also RWB. You basically want a tall right footed version of Osborn to give them 3 or even 4 chances of getting a game. Otherwise it's us offering a back up role vs someone else offering potentially a starting one.

Maybe our plan A choices are still there. We don’t know that the club were after either of these two.

And another one

From your own Athletic link;
Clarke-Salter, who left Chelsea at the end of the season when his contract expired, also had interest from the Premier League, including Bournemouth, as well as Standard Liege, Wolfsburg and Istanbul Basaksehir.

<insert John Travolta Pulp Fiction confused GIF>

And another one

Annnnd another one

£4M for a L1 player was realistic? Really?
I suppose as realistic as beating Fulham, Bournemouth and Forest to Rothwell I guess.
We’ve bid 7 figures for a lad from Malmo, so yes why not?

You have to question why we are so skint given it’s our second season out of the premier league. Not being able to afford a £4m player when Hull offered just shy of that, hmmm.
