Squad reshape this summer

Bristol City have been hanging around this division seemingly for decades, no matter who they sign they never get anywhere,to the point that even we hammered them when it looked like they were finally in with a chance of getting out.
They've brought in Michael Skubala as manager, who had a great record at Lincoln of developing players.

They've signed Sam Tickle, who is a fantastic keeper and Lorent Tolaj, who if he fulfills his potential could be a stand out player this season.

They've also signed Jed Wallace for some much needed experience and now Dom Ballard.

They're spent in excess of £12mil but they could potentially make that back in a season or two if they develop, coach and improve Tickle, Tolaj and Ballard.

They're my pick to finish above us in a play-off spot come the end of the season.

I wish we had even half of their ambition when it comes to recruitment. We looked like we were heading that way when we signed Cooper and Burrows, then we abandoned any kind of long term recruitment strategy because winning and getting promoted each season was deemed more important than developing and improving players so that they could be sold for profit to fund future transfer windows. Three seasons in the Premier League and we're in a worse state for it. What a waste of two golden opportunities.

Same mistakes every single season. You can't even blame the owners as it was the same under Prince Abdullah, other than the two seasons in the Premier League where he let Wilder waste over £120mil on bang average crap, who all but Ramsdale left for significant losses. Quite literally over £100mil down the drain with nothing to show for it other than the sorry state we're in.

The fact that the club still haven't/won't consider a Director of Football when Bettis, Allen and co are so inept and useless when it comes to recruitment and footballing decisions, is the punchline to a bad joke.

Can see it already. Hamer and Peck go a week before the deadline, and we scramble around and end up with a 35-year-old Centre midfielder whose legs have gone and want's 1 last pay cheque. striker that's not needed and a random guy from Norway who's only had 4 senior appearances at the tender age of 24.

Wilder then gets the sack in mid October because we are just above the relagtion zone. Bring in a new gaffer who has these ideas, but cant impliment them due to the players. Then when it comes to the January transfer window, we dont invest in the players he wants. He then gets sacked at the end of the season due to finishing 10th.

Then re hire Wilder.

I and most on here are aware that we had a smaller budget this year and players needed to be sold before purchases. But Wilder gave us his Churchill speech, are we not supposed to believe that this was an agreed plan. He said it would be done early (lies) it will be a full on preseason they wont be like last years (lies). So far we have fetched a kid in to replace a player who other than Hamer provided more assists and goals in the squad. A 35 year old fullback with the pace of a tortoise and an overweight Jairo who struggled last season to do 60 minutes and needs to consider changing his name to Giro as he doesn't work for 33% of his wage .
So hear we are waiting on players being sold so we can go and get Phillips and Soutter doesn't that worry you? Both have enough sicknotes to make HR suspicious yet we are looking at splashing the outgoing budget on two more Shackleton's. Shackleton who Wilder (Chris) said was an important player for is this season that's working out well.
Bullshit walks among us we aren't daft but at least the manager should be transparent with us as no one else at the club can be arsed.
Wilder can say what he wants without being put on the spot by the local submissive journos..cos they know he,s a mardy arse and will give em short shrift.. if he was answerable to the national press he,d spit dummy out and look for the nearest back door.

Alternate take.

Hecky gets off to a poor start at Preston (largely due to half his squad being injured - a familiar tale), and gets sacked. Wilder soon follows suit and the club hires Hecky again. Hecky takes over a team full of injury ravaged crocks which does include (by a miracle), Souttar and Phillips. Phillips, Souttar, Arblaster, Campbell and Shackleton all miss large chunks of the season due to training ground injuries (as per Hecky's methods). Hecky is sacked in the summer. We then hire.....

Wilder
Hecky
Jokanovich
Hecky
Wilder
Selles

?????

On the plus side the Blades utilise their US links and get a new shirt sponsor for next season, the TV network Comedy Central.

As we stand,we have 1 decent front man,no legs in midfield,no width to stretch,no centre back to help a very poor Tanganga.
10 days to go before the start and we are performing like imbeciles behind the scenes, pathetic warm up matches and short of experience. The spiral continues.

Also as we stand,Brum,Burnley,Cardiff,Wrexham,Preston,Pompey,Norwich,Watford,West Ham,Millwall,Boro,Stoke,Wolves,Derby,Swansea,Bristol city,West brom,Southampton all look better and stronger than us . If this carries on ,the boos from last season will get louder and more frequent. Unfortunately, some of you are pleased that we may reach mid table.

Not saying it applies to ourselves but I wonder if it’s playing a part:

Then why did Wilder (Chris) come out with that load of lies in April . Yes to sell season tickets. But this could really backfire on him, never mind the owners or Betis, this will be on him talking bollocks. Which to be fare he has become very good at.
Noise and nonsense.

For us, its Squad Cost Rules. We were the single biggest loser in the change in financial regulations pushed through at the end of last season. The majority of the league voted on this proposal as it erased the pressure they were under with the prior rules (PSR had a maximum loss over 3 years which many were close to breaching). It was a get out of jail free card for them.

The fact there was no grace transitional period of even a season (literally just a few months) where you could comply with either of the rulesets for a couple of years feels capricious, to the point where I wonder if there would be a case to be heard at CAS. We were reportedly in a good position under the prior rules and would have had more wiggle room to spend than many of our competitors in the league (if the owners were willing).

Going forward our ability to compete is going to rely on developing players and selling them for a profit, so get used to this. The concern will be is if we sell Hamer and Peck and spend whats available on loans, older players and depreciating assets (Souttar). That may give us the best chance to compete this year but in the long term its a death sentance as we'll have no assets left to sell when we need to raise funds.

For example, if we sell Hamer and Peck, I'd like to see us go after Donley at Spurs who was apparently available to Oxford for 4.5m after his loan last year. He is the type of player who can increase his value in the Championship with games. Maybe you look at some loan to buys in the hope we can shift assets in the January transfer window.

Genuinely looking forward to the Mansfield game post match press conference to hear Wilder's bullshit about how the lads togetherness and the characters we have in the squad are much more important than just bringing new players in.
16 days since Doherty came in. We're falling way behind midfield also-rans in the championship such as Bristol City, Stoke, Swansea and Preston. All who've made some big money signings this summer. Yes, money doesn't equate success, but the question is, where has it gone? None of those have had parachute payments in the last 8 years, and yet can afford to outspend us.
I'm getting seriously worried about the direction of travel of our club at the moment. Im away on holiday this weekend, and then off to bramall lane on tuesday to take my kids there, i might drive to shirecliffe to knock on the jolly boys club's door and see what the f*ck is going on.

In regards to Bristol City, Stoke, Swansea and Preston, there's different circumstances for all four of them.

Bristol City are reaping the rewards of some of their sales and very likely a decent sell-on from Semenyo signing for Man City last January, and they might get a bit more if Alex Scott leaves Bournemouth this summer.

Swansea always seem to make good sales but never really challenge the top 6, like Mcburnie, Piroe, Grimes, Vipotnik etc, but they seem good at finding good strikers for the championship.

Stoke are acknowledged by most as being one of the richest Championship clubs (not sure how they compare to Wrexham, Birmingham and West Ham), they usually offer higher wages than most other Champ clubs as well, but it still took them ages to get rid of some of the bad signings they made before and after their relegation from the PL.

As for Preston, correct me if I'm wrong but they very rarely spend money on players and don't often make decent sales, as far as I can remember they often go for frees and loans for older players and the occasional promising youngster.

We ended up spending a lot of money last summer and it was all poorly allocated. Possibly the worst window in the clubs history. Nothing left now and we need to sell to buy. We have few assets left and the club is in serious trouble without a miracle managerial performance from Wilder. The club is going to be reliant on developing and selling players to make us competitive for the foreseeable future. At best we'll have a playoff challenge every three years. Thats our new reality unless we can snag a promotion and get back into the cycle of parachute payments.

We do have a decent record with developing academy players but the club needs to get a whole lot better in player recruitment so that we can profit from players we buy and sell.

Nothing will change whilst bettis is the accountant thats juggling it all as the ceo.

People will say oh here we go about bettis etc but whilst ever he has been the ceo and main man thats clearly looks as though hes got too many plates spinning, its been a shambles summer after summer.

Do we need a dof to help the work load and let bettis focus on what hes good at (the other stuff)?

Or does he need replacing altogether?
