They've brought in Michael Skubala as manager, who had a great record at Lincoln of developing players.Bristol City have been hanging around this division seemingly for decades, no matter who they sign they never get anywhere,to the point that even we hammered them when it looked like they were finally in with a chance of getting out.
They've signed Sam Tickle, who is a fantastic keeper and Lorent Tolaj, who if he fulfills his potential could be a stand out player this season.
They've also signed Jed Wallace for some much needed experience and now Dom Ballard.
They're spent in excess of £12mil but they could potentially make that back in a season or two if they develop, coach and improve Tickle, Tolaj and Ballard.
They're my pick to finish above us in a play-off spot come the end of the season.
I wish we had even half of their ambition when it comes to recruitment. We looked like we were heading that way when we signed Cooper and Burrows, then we abandoned any kind of long term recruitment strategy because winning and getting promoted each season was deemed more important than developing and improving players so that they could be sold for profit to fund future transfer windows. Three seasons in the Premier League and we're in a worse state for it. What a waste of two golden opportunities.
Same mistakes every single season. You can't even blame the owners as it was the same under Prince Abdullah, other than the two seasons in the Premier League where he let Wilder waste over £120mil on bang average crap, who all but Ramsdale left for significant losses. Quite literally over £100mil down the drain with nothing to show for it other than the sorry state we're in.
The fact that the club still haven't/won't consider a Director of Football when Bettis, Allen and co are so inept and useless when it comes to recruitment and footballing decisions, is the punchline to a bad joke.
