Souza off!?

Just spit balling but if Souza goes could Souter play DM in front of 2 CBs? From what I’ve seen he’s confident on the ball, can pass it out well and good in box for set pieces. Plus he’s got 2 defenders behind him if he losses out.

Don’t think he’s got the engine, athleticism or agility.

I actually think Anel could do a job there as he’s far more athletic and is decent with the ball at his feet and has a tendency to lose his discipline playing at the back.

The best solution all round though is if Souza leaves. Sign a good midfielder.

Agree about Anel potentially having the tools for CDM. I hope Souza doesn't leave though.

It’s not just his “I’m great but the team are holding me back” comments, it’s the fact that he’s also fundamentally shit. You can count his good games last season on one hand with fingers spare, and generally against poorer opposition.

He can’t pass, can’t find a player, can’t mark, blames his teammates and has the fighting spirit of a dead badger on the M1. He has one good tackle in him, and if he misses that he may as well leave the pitch as he’s given up. Players go passed him like he’s not there. He annoys his teammates and the fans alike.

Personally I don’t care who rates him, but I’ve the feeling if we weren’t so threadbare he’d be nowhere near the starting 11. We’re a stepping stone for him to greater things in his mind.

If some wants to pay for him I’d be saying off you go son, the doors that way, and in the likely event that no one does I’d be pushing him to get a loan somewhere and free up his wages.
How you feeling about this now?

Not me so sure the poster can speak for himself but I'd say my views weren't too dissimilar to Ekke. I think Souza was really shit last season. He's been good to / really good this season. Unsure if it is a change in attitude, system or the simple fact the Championship has players inferior to those in PL, or all three. Hopefully it continues!

Said it at the time and I stick by it now, that I don't get why people criticise the player and not their form or performances.

Saying Souza played shit last season is correct.

Saying Souza is fundamentally shit only takes a few good performances and then you'll get nobheads like me bringing it back up for giggles

You're asking for nuance and sensibility before commenting or providing considered feedback.
If that is what you're after, I don't think social media and certainly football forums are going to be for you.

I stand by it, he was crap last season and like I said in later posts if he improves this season then fair play. Is there a point you were wanting to make, or are people not allowed opinions?

You didn't say he was crap last season.

You said he was crap full stop. Or fundamentally shit was the words you used. Also, can't pass, can't find a player, can't mark etc.

By all means, crack on with your opinion, but equally I'm allowed to come back to this thread every now-and-again to have a little laugh at you because you shot your load too early completely writing off a player.

Has he improved?
Has the opposition had anything to do with it.
Does the fact we actually have the ball help?

You're asking for a player, who's come to a new country, a new language, to be part of one of the shittest most embarrassing teams the premier league has ever seen..... and roll his sleeves up and dig in, whilst the rest of the shit show does fuckall aswell.

Nah, that just doesn't happen, we could have had Vini Jr or Mbappe last season and they'd have given up after 5/6 games.

It wasn't a wild comment tbf. He's a different player so far this season.
TBF it actually is a bit of a wild comment when you take a step back.

A young lad was thrown into his first season in the hardest league in the world, adjusting to a new country, new language, new teammates, in a team that had just lost their 2 best players, that didn't smartly invest in improving the squad, put alongside aging/slow defensive partners, and was asked to pretty much defend against the worlds best all by himself, in potentially the worst team to ever play in the prem, in front of an unsettled defence and some really dodgy keeping.

I'm not sure there was a player last season in the whole of the prem that was given a worse poker hand than Souza.

To consider all of that and come to the conclusion, "It's because he's fundamentally shit", just seems unnecessarily harsh and unfair.

I completely agree with the ones that have said Souza played wank last season, that's true. Just disagree with writing-off a player who didn't really have a chance.

I like that perspective. Nicely put

Souza can't be judged on last season. Nobody can
When Hecki signed him we were led to beleave he was a beast! He maybe one of these players who needed time to adjust to the English game ( not an unknown fact) especially premiership level.
The beast has definitely shown up this season ! Players bounce off him and wonder what's hit them.
We need to go up or we will lose him next summer possibly even the next window.
He gets better every game
No doubt Hecki knew what he was getting !

This, exactly

Yes, I thought he was crap based on the evidence of last season. Should I have predicted that he’d be better this season and based my opinion on that?

We bought him to play in the Prem, and regardless of the rest of the team, morale, better opposition or whatever excuse you want to use, he failed at that level and was in my opinion, crap.

This season so far he’s played in one game where the opposition were of a high standard, which we lost. Every other game he’s played very well, and played well in the above loss.

His level is upper championship in my opinion.

You see I’ve added “in my opinion” above a lot, I know you’re struggling with the concept of opinions being different to yours but thought I’d clarify this for you, it being a public forum and all.

souza has been excellent this season but lets not forget hes not coming up against international midfielders every week hes playing at a level now where hes the dominant one in midfield although still think hes naive with these stupid fouls which usually lead to a yellow card

He did last season what he’s done this season plays the same way does the same things but isn’t constantly playing on the pitch on his own put him in a decent premiership side and he will be just as effective
Put him in a team in the premiership that would be one of the worst ever (JLT being player of the year shows how low the bar was ) and he looks crap

I’ve only just seen this beauty. One of the best posts I’ve seen.

Lot of people saying his old club Lommel have got a 40% sell on fee. Hope we have a decent size fee for him
