And out.

-----------

I understand Gareth Southgate was in the running for Sheff U but has now withdrawn his interest. Financial constraints at club a factor#sufc

Do you get the feeling that at the end of the interviews they get out a suitcase of Monopoly money and say ''...and this is what you'll be building the team with...."

I would imagine KMC just says Hey.... How many times can you day Blade in a minute.

The winner gets the job.

If its Southgate i am done with the club hate the twat rather have Gerrard and i detest that fella

A mate of mine that I worked with in Switzerland emailed to say that Southgate was on the Zurich-Man Flight today (presumably he was in Basel for the Chelsea game) Southgate was on the flight and he was reading a load of Sheff Utd papers.

I wouldn't want him. But perhaps he's being lined up...
Yeah and I've just seen Mourinho coming out of Blundells Woodseats

I would be willing to give a new manager if it happens a chance.

But not Southgate. I have PTSD from that fucker having control of a strong England squad where other various big powers weren't at it

Id consign United to the dust bin in my brain if we ever appointed Southgate. I'd be done with them. Probably go and watch some one else, maybe Lincoln as I live out that way. That would be my red and white stripes fix.

This season s one if the reasons I'm worried if Wilder does go because I'd be skeptical that the board will get it right. We all thought Slav was a good choice and record wise he was but that was awful and there's far worse managers than him out there. There's also some good ones but we already have a good managed in charge!

Michael Carrick, Rob Edwards, Steven Gerrard, Southgate and Gary O'Neil are all available! That list worries me a lot!

Often the reasons that a manager fails is because they are a complete shift from the previous manager. It’s seen as a failure when a manager is fired, so they think that the smart move would be to then shift to a completely new methodology.

Slav came into the club which was effectively rudderless and I think was the opportunity to work with a manager who’d had success but with a very different style. I’m sure, given time it could’ve brought success but that needed money and time. Neither were available.

The owners realised that there was an error made in this respect and the Hecky and Bettis team were put in place to correct that

Hecky offered the chance to bring us back to the Wilder style, without disrespect to hecky, he was able to work with the Wilder players as he’d been at the club and had a similar style based on being organised, solid and could work immediately with the players in place. It worked

Obviously hecky reached the ceiling in the premier league with the squad and players that were left and of course, money and time take over, bring back Wilder and rebuild to achieve the 2019 success.

Wilder last did a tremendous job (with Bettis and others) to get the team and squad ready for the start of the season with such uncertainty. Forget promotion, to achieve 92 points was something really exceptional. But for many, the performances weren’t good enough. It seems that’s the issue for the board too. And that’s fine.

To contemplate changing a manager there has to be something inherently wrong within the club and the way that manager works, his style, his results, his persona, perhaps. Many things.

If there is to be a change, which seems very likely now, there has to be a plan - short, mid and long. All three have to match up. If I was the board, I’d keep Wilder short term(this season), but bring in a DoF to work with him, which would help to mould the mid term and hopefully the long term plan, whatever that is can be realised.

As you say, that list alone doesn’t inspire. It doesn’t excite for the short term, does it…

So it comes to the question of what is the plan?

Yep. Which is why it’s absolute shit that he’s coming.

We haven’t been linked to anyone on that list. At this point you and quite a few others are simply catastrophising the future based on no knowledge whatsoever in the manner of what Frank the tank would describe as a fanny. People need to get a grip.

This is spot on. I would add that they not only need a plan but they also need to communicate it and get the fans bought into the longer term vision. That makes changes more acceptable and gives context for decisions that may otherwise be badly received.

As a keen England fan who wanted to throttle Southgate for his defensive selections and clumsy tactical awareness, I do think he brought a lot of dignity and respect back to playing for the team, got the squad pretty united (save for Ben White) and was our second most successful manager of all time.

I really don’t want him as our manager but if we were moving towards appointing a DoF with a knowledge of the English game to oversee a dynamic overseas coach, I can think of worse.

Communication can sometimes set an owner or board up for failure. Our past owners have sometimes declared the plan with sound bites, but not been able to back it up.. and that makes a mockery of communication.

Sometimes it’s better to say less, but agreed, say something...

In fairness that doesn’t make any sense. Not sure what woke has to do with it.
Did you not pick up on his really witty nickname last season on here of ‘Wokegate’?

I think he said once that he didn’t hate black and brown people so people coined that witticism for him.

No dont remember that to be honest

But even so, not sure why you’d want a manager specifically to divide the fan base
