A mate of mine that I worked with in Switzerland emailed to say that Southgate was on the Zurich-Man Flight today (presumably he was in Basel for the Chelsea game) Southgate was on the flight and he was reading a load of Sheff Utd papers.

I wouldn't want him. But perhaps he's being lined up...

A load of sheff utd papers?? what does he mean ?? i could see someone like that being interviewed but i really want a manager with passion someone who looks really gutted if we lose and delighted every time we put the ball in the net. Maybe Southgate will be commentating for someone during the playoffs and is doing his research so it looks like he know the teams history.

Back issues of Blades News from the early 1980's I suppose.

And who gives a crap about cheering when we score and looking gutted when we lose. Morgan does that and the early signs are he's a worse manager than Wilson.

i presume it was sufc letter head

could be nothing, but just putting it out there based on what i was told.

It was the freehold

I reckon they chuck out all the wankest names on purpose - Southgate - Ferdinand, Downes..............the when you actually get Morgan, everyone's quite pleased.

UTB

Was he reading our new 3d programme?

I am sure Southgate is too involved with TV to go back to management.

Surpised if so. He works for ITV and they don't cover the NPower league. Unless he's commentating on foreign TV.

He'll defo be on our shortlist. Maybe it was a letter inviting for interview

Im probably the only one on here that would welcome Southgate.

I think he would be a good choice.

Quality rumouring Swiss.

Carefully distancing yourself from the actual event by introducing a "friend" into the equation, but not making it too obscure as you've heard it immediately from source.
Excellent use of an enticing reference to "Sheffield United papers". What could these possibly be? Do such things exist? Was it just an old copy of "Shoot" with a picture of Tony Currie on the front?

As for Southgate though, a bit too comfortable poncing a living on the telly to get his hands dirty and get involved with this shower I suspect.
Overall 8/10.

He's been (still is?) heavily involved with the FA's youth development stuff at Burton.

Maybe he has a master plan to copy our academy at the England set up then sell them all to a new independant Scotland thus cutting the national budget.

Ha ha I've never actually started a rumour on here before, just giving the benefit of what I got by email :)

Probably just working on the next way the FA can fuck us over.:fattwat:

To be fair, he didn't to too bad a job initially picking up the pieces at Middlesbrough following Robson, albeit with a bit of financial backing. Does seem willing to use youngsters. He's pretty well qualified and well respected in the game, so maybe could help change the image we seem to have.
And in other news, my boss went to school with him. Don't think they're still in touch though - it was a while ago.

He came in long after Robson. He succeeded McClaren

I thought he turned down the offer of a longer role with the FA.
For youth development he's got to be one if the top choices if using the academy is the main factor.

any chance of you making the final Swiss? Or is it even less likely than the Blades making it?
No chance mate, I didn't make I last year out of choice and I'm buggered if I'm going this year.

As for Southgate, if he can't even stand up to Roy Keane then how's he going to kick our lot into shape?

He'd be worse than Robson

It's the sort of simplistic stuff that typifies many of our fans I'm afraid. We desperately need to leave that sort of attitude behind.
