Or because we were unable to hold on for a draw against a mid-table, nothing to play for Chelsea, despite being 2-1 up with 15mins to playNo, we got relegated because of Hans Segars and the conspiracy to keep Everton in the Premier League.
I thought we mistakenly believed that we had to win that game, hence chucking everything forward at 2-2 in injury time and getting hit on the break.Or because we were unable to hold on for a draw against a mid-table, nothing to play for Chelsea, despite being 2-1 up with 15mins to play
Seriously? God, I never knew that until now. I remember going to Oldham midweek before, where a win would have saved us. From memory, Tracey was sent off, and we only drew. But we'd played Russian Roulette for four seasons and losing Deano, as you said, was the killer blow before the season started. If only we had signed the other Flo, who ended up at Chelsea!I thought we mistakenly believed that we had to win that game, hence chucking everything forward at 2-2 in injury time and getting hit on the break.

thats correct matt but still doesnt alter the fact that the everton v wimbledon game was fixed i have no doubt about that let alone segers depositing the 19k just read andy nicholls bookOr because we were unable to hold on for a draw against a mid-table, nothing to play for Chelsea, despite being 2-1 up with 15mins to play
Bloody hell I'd forgotten about that Swindon away match. I was only about 11, but I think it remains the dullest game i've been to in my life - I remember singing "When the Blades go marchin in" all second half, being really impressed by how the Blades fans kept the energy going, and trying to start a Mexican wave (unsuccessful) with my little bro.Swindon may have conceded 100 goals that season but our failure to score against them at the County Ground (0-0 draw, one of only 4 clean sheets) was probably key to us getting relegated.

Well yes putting it like that.We got relegated because we lost a game we could and should have not lost so no one’s fault but our own
Everton had nothing to do with it, there’s no blame on them. There was no conspiracy against us either. That result was down to one man and an overseas betting syndicate. But it shouldn’t have mattered because we should have got at least a draw at Stamford Bridge.thats correct matt but still doesnt alter the fact that the everton v wimbledon game was fixed i have no doubt about that let alone segers depositing the 19k just read andy nicholls book![]()
Back in the day when Stamford Bridge was a dog track and Chelsea were just an ordinary club, no bigger really than ourselves.Everton had nothing to do with it, there’s no blame on them. There was no conspiracy against us either. That result was down to one man and an overseas betting syndicate. But it shouldn’t have mattered because we should have got at least a draw at Stamford Bridge.

In the first 5 games we could not inconceivably have been sitting on 8 points. We lost 2 points conceding late winners to Forest and Man City, lost all 3 points in a ridiculous amount of injury time at Spurs, and would have turned a draw into a win had Pickford not pulled off a wordlie from McBurnies last gasp header v Everton.Kind of disagree....before the Newcastle game....our ambition was to keep the score down
and we didn't make much effort to get into the opposition half.
The irony is that the Newcastle game was Hecky's most attack minded/ ambitious start during that season.
We were actually the better team 1st half, we had 3 good chances and missed them all, Newcastle only had about 3 attacks and scored every time.
Basically under Hecky we'd have lost loads of matches 2-0 but I don't think we'd have broke the 10 points barrier.
Under Wilder we played more open attacking football and started many games well, we tried to win but the danger was losing 5 or 5-0.

But our fate was in our hands regardless of others alleged rule breakingWell yes putting it like that.
But “the others” still have to play by the rules.
I think he's a hooligan so I would take it with a pinch of saltWhat’s the book called?

I still maintain it was the 8-0 that did for us. After that, confidence was shot.
It was clear when the team sheet was handed to the ref before the first game.It was clear after the first game.
Is that the one called ‘Scally: Confessions of a Category C Hooligan?’What’s the book called?
And Archer... doubt any promoted sides will take these two ever again. Guaranteed relegation with them in your squad.Relegation Ramsdale is at it again![]()
It’s crazy isn’t it, he looked a very good player for Boro in a team that worked for him.And Archer... doubt any promoted sides will take these two ever again. Guaranteed relegation with them in your squad.
Yes, my sentiments exactly. Although strangely after the 0-8In the first 5 games we could not inconceivably have been sitting on 8 points.
