Some sort of psychological trauma there

Must be! Clearly I can take a beating because I can clearly recall the Newcastle game, but at a certain point I must have hit my limit.
How woefully naive, under resourced and ill-prepared the Prince (and had us) for that season. Inexcusable.

All he was bothered about was the promotion and being able to save his club from going bust and worth nowt.
He wasn't naive.
Then came the £100m tv income - once the accounts for 23/24 come out , the accountants on here will be able to tell us where it went.
If I'd been the Prince and wanting to sell the club , I would probably have used some of it to pay off some debt and thereby improve it's balance sheet , making it more attractive for prospective purchasers.
But we're still waiting for the accounts for the y/e 30 June 2024.

Lots to come out in January !

Don’t know if anyone has mentioned or noticed Southampton has the worst record in the Premier League then United had last season after 16 games and no pundits are taking the piss out of them like they did with us
Been mentioned a few times a page back.

It's funny, I don't remember the Villa game at all, I even had to look up the score. I can remember the Newcastle and Arsenal games well enough but the Villa game is a complete blank. I was definitely there!
I don't remember villa game either 🫣😅😅

We made a promoted team getting humiliated normal. It's considered standard and nothing special.

They haven't even got the excuse of selling their best players immediately prior to the season starting either.

Still better than us in 20/21 though - mad how that season is respectable compared to last season in the end

But that's understandable.....we had a spell of losing loads of matches 5 mil, 6 nil or 8 nil.
Southampton are losing (virtually every match) but at least they're competitive in most matches.

The piss was ripped post the 0-8…Before then we generally gave the opposition a decent game.

Kind of disagree....before the Newcastle game....our ambition was to keep the score down
and we didn't make much effort to get into the opposition half.

The irony is that the Newcastle game was Hecky's most attack minded/ ambitious start during that season.
We were actually the better team 1st half, we had 3 good chances and missed them all, Newcastle only had about 3 attacks and scored every time.

Basically under Hecky we'd have lost loads of matches 2-0 but I don't think we'd have broke the 10 points barrier.
Under Wilder we played more open attacking football and started many games well, we tried to win but the danger was losing 5 or 5-0.

Southampton are way below Danny Boy’s pay grade.

He’s the Rinus Michels (Google that kids) of S6, ask our porky neighbours.
I know that was tongue in cheek, but Rohl is the most forward-thinking manager / coach they've had since ...?

That's my concern, ever since the success under Fat Ron, then Francis, they've had a succession of terrible appointments. This is their first real opportunity since the successive play off defeat seasons. Put it this way, if Rohl is still their manager Dec 2026 I would be worried.

I don't know about forward-thinking, but Carlos got them in the playoffs in 2 consecutive seasons.

Worried that they might manage to be a mid-table Championship team for a season or two?!

They're modern day football nobodies - just have a unique part in their name, which is their only defining feature. They're more on a par with Plymouth Argyle and Blackpool if we're talking "levels".

I thought Stuart Gray did well there. Bought some top Champ players in on the cheap and was very harshly sacked and replaced by cheque book Carlos (who benefitted from sone of those players). Rohl has done well so far but it's still early days.

I remember Swindon Town getting relegated with us from the prem and conceding 100 goals, (in more games than we played) and the press used to regularly wank off that they had made good friends cos of the way they played. Course they made friends every fucker loved playing them as it was 3 points.
Swindon may have conceded 100 goals that season but our failure to score against them at the County Ground (0-0 draw, one of only 4 clean sheets) was probably key to us getting relegated.

No, we got relegated because of Hans Segars and the conspiracy to keep Everton in the Premier League.
