So what killed BU?

Speculation is rife and Webbo is being tight lipped. So what do you reckon eventually killed it?

I've seen a few people mentioning the transcript from the Q&A (whoops :blush:) but that was typed up with Andy Pack's words in mind, the ones that said "we want this message to go as far and wide as possible".

It's a bit hypocritical for the media officer to say that and then its discussion to cause the official message board to close down... and besides, we haven't had anyone contacting us to tell us to remove it, which we'd have expected if the club had a problem with it.

Has anyone else got any other ideas? More exciting than the "resources" excuse?
 

i did mention the other day about posting 2 girls 1 cup on there....
 
I'd like to think that it was really a secret message board for aliens where like minded reptilians could communicate with each other using coded messages in preparedness for the impending invasion in 2012.

Things like 'Why haven't we signed Tommy Smith yet...this club is a joke..' would really mean "Ey-up Tharg, hope you've got your death-ray on charge..." The CIA and U.N.I.T (or whatever) could have sussed this out and closed the site down, imprisoning webbo at Torchwood (or wherever) HQ. The blame would then be levelled at Alien Blade and Alien Woodward for giving the game away with their non-imaginative aliases....




But having said all that, webbo probably just wanted a break.....

It was almost a full time job trying to clear the liable

I wouldn't slog my guts out all day just to stop being sued - remember Grandpa & fOwlstalk???

BU belonged to Windmill and nothing to do with SUFC - only linked

it's gone - we'll get over it
 
Libel applies to this board just as much as it did to BU, therefore that wouldn't be the reason. Most likely Webperson decided that they weren't paying him enough money to look after it.

A fallout perhaps has occurred judging by the manner in which it closed.

NB Grandad was the Wednesdayite who lost a £1,000 bet with Bert on BU and then promptly vanished.
It served him right what happened to him on the Owls Forum.

It does indeed, but that doesn't mean that closing threads that just might meander down a litigious path at some unspecified time in the future if someone is posting pissed is the right way to run a forum.

Threads were closed, often for no conceivable reason with no explanation given. In our experience, that would just invite trouble.

If someone is on dodgy ground, then a quiet word in their ear will often suffice. People don't generally want to cause trouble.
 
Money will be the root of the closure, nothing to do with legalities. The truth will out eventually.
 

The more pertinent question we could ask is "Who really gives a shit that BU has died?"

Bert - BladesUnited was never anything to do with SUFC - it was just linked to SUFC - it was owned and run by Webbo - it was his time that was spent moderating it

SUFC didn't pay for it in anyway

So this board is going to keep all the libelous/abusive posts up for all to see?

I'll just sit back and watch - should be fun while it lasts

We do hope that they never occur in the first place. But when they do, as I said above, usually a quiet word in the relevant poster's ear will suffice.

We're not here to babysit... but we will clear up when teddies have been thrown out of prams.

But do stick around :) It usually causes much amusement when I had to get the Moderatrix gear out.
