Sheffield United need a fit Paul Coutts

We don’t yet know if the said transfers are failures. Evans has done pretty well in my view, guilty only of not being the Rolls-Royce that is Paul Coutts.

You were very gentle there. Where was the 'only in S2 are non hoof players written off so soon'?

They all have their first full season ahead. Let’s wait a while and see.

Sadly they've already been written off by some experts on here, despite both of them not yet getting a run.

James "Rocket Scientist" Shield strikes again.

"Duuuuh, David Brooks is very good and people might want to sign him so United might want to keep him"

And yet EVERYONE has a price.

£15m + (as has been muted) = snatch their hands off.

UTB

An afterthought would have to be that Wilder was to be allowed the bulk of any fee to go towards new blood.

I can't agree, and what's more I find it bizarre that after years of grievances over player sales, so many are desperate to push Brooks out of the door. It's also a risky assumption that a player of comparable quality can be just plucked out of the ether.
We need to utilise his talents until it's no longer possible to keep him.

But the main crux of the post is how much of a fucking dunce James Shield is.

Grievances over player sales is one thing.

Good business is another.

Brooke’s is good. He will probably get better.

But he is no Ryan Giggs. And most importantly, it is completely unclear if he is a shoe in for a shirt.

There's no evidence that it's good business though. Promotion is worth more than 15 million, and there's no guarantee that'd it'd be reinvested on somebody of comparable quality. It'd be spectacularly short-sighted to let him go at this stage.

And what evidence is there to suggest DB would be vital to any promotion push ?

As things stand, he is NOT certain of a start. If he was, I could perhaps see more of your point.

But I agree in that if the funds raised could not be deployed to strengthen other areas, why bother ?

If we sold him Wilder would probably get half of it back to spend and we would end up with half a dozen Ricky Holmes type signings.

As you say, why fucking bother.

I like this, I feel a thread coming on:

Fleck; BMW M140i, how did they fit so much engine in such a small package?

O'Connell; Nissan GTR, competes with all the big boys, and often beats them, for a fraction of the price.

Duffy; Jag E-Type; getting on a bit, but as classy as ever.

You ok ?

Well little my tittys, always thought we would be better off playin unfit players you thick cunt.

Totally. It's not like there are many young, international forwards with pace and the proven ability to step up in big games, available and willing to sign for us...

Sadly in modern society, the need to stay relevant in this 24/7 news generation leads to desperate people trying to justify their existence with vacuous drivel like this. In a bygone era, wouldn't he now be writing about cricket or spending the summer reading a book?

We need Paul Coutts and a proper Paul Coutts understudy..
Coutts is vital to how we play and was a massive miss after the injury as he allows the team to function, Evans did a good job but he’s no Coutts and Lunny isn’t disciplined enough to play that role neither is Leonard, I can see the coaching staff trying to mouldy Regan Slater into the Coutts role as he drops deep when playing 23’s and looks to start the play and dictate the midfield, as for Brooke’s can’t see him going this year but if we don’t go up reckon he’ll go the following summer, wouldn’t be surprised to see him start alongside Clarke as the first choice pairing

The way I look at it is, 'if the player weren't our player would we want him in our side?'

So.. Brooks. Young, skillful, can unlock defences, can score goals and already an international. Unproven but a raw talent.

If he were at a top Prem club and we were looking at getting him on loan i'd be excited about it. But we don't need to do that, because he's our player. Let's start by thinking about how we can best use him, not by how to sell him.

Same goes for Clarke. One of the top goalscorers in the championship last season and especially so when you consider penalties. He's an older player but still looks incredibly fit. He would be an absolute steal if we picked him up from say, a champ tean which just got promoted. But again we don't have to worry about that because he's already on a good contract with us.

Regards Coutts, I agree with others that, as he was, he was key to the way we played, and hopefully still will be. Everything i've read or heard about his attitude tells me he'll be back.

I can see the coaching staff trying to mould Regan Slater into the Coutts role
Not a bad shout that, his promotion to match squad could be our first 'signing' of next season.
