Sexist chants at Lane, are we guilty?

One of the last great sitcoms that was laugh out loud funny, before PC ran amok and we were reduced to such hilarity as "Miranda" and "My Family"
Completely different target audience, different channel, different (pre-watershed) time slots. Totally unfair comparison and IMO Peep Show and The Inbetweeners were much funnier (although I did like Father Ted).

"....Completely different target audience...."

True, one of them likes comedy, the other obviously less so

"...different (pre-watershed) time slots...."

True again, one of the reasons why Dad's Army is still shown pre-watershed on BBC2 on Saturday night, I bet you won't see repeats of Miranda or My Family in 45 years time

"...IMO Peep Show and The Inbetweeners were much funnier (although I did like Father Ted)...."

Loved both of them, my kids bought me the Inbetweeners box set DVD a few years ago, even the spin off films were ok, funny how all three were on Channel 4 (also liked Mitchell and Webb TV show, but Peep Show was better)

I won't be watching owt in 45 years' time. I'm sure they'll be a channel somewhere that shows Miranda and My Family in between Only Fools and Horses and Are You Being Served though.

Well I suppose you need to put something on between the funny stuff, so people can go and make a sandwich and a cuppa and go to the loo ;)

Whilst I think they're dross and would rather stare at a blank screen than watch either I realise that some viewers, particularly older people, want gentle comedy without lots of swearing and rudeness, hence the timeless appeal of programmes like Dad's Army and the relative success of Miranda etc. They're programmes my 85 year old mum can watch, or my sister when her lad was young and didn't want him hearing things like 'Mark, would you like to stick your tongue up Shona's arsehole, it's clean'.
What I'll never get is Mrs Brown's Boys.

Why can't the Star confront the Wednesday fans for their behaviour, rather than pussy footing around the issue and saying it was both sets of supporters; it wasn't.

Presumably these articles have come to light following songs directed at Wilder's daughter, so why not focus on that, rather than the broader/less targeted issue which as the article says, is present at every club on a match day.

Surely if the Star is as anti-sexist as it suggests, it'd focus on specific cases. You won't win any 'wars' without doing this.

There are posts on this very thread revealing the use of songs that could be considered sexist, as well as racist ones. There's an illegal one that pops up very often, too. It's not a Wednesday issue, or a United one. It's a football problem

This was definitely chanted at Hillsborough but I haven't heard it sung anywhere else since.

Possibly being a little bit ignorant here, and I'm not saying that chanting is right, but how is saying that a woman has a penis considered sexist?
How can it be? Surely ladyboy touches all the equality bases, both sexes represented.......

That's the start of a whole different world which will ultimately lead to a 2 day "sensitivity training" course.
Did that and the diversity course ,when I was employed by our Sheffield Council, ooohhh, way back in the 80's.
On entrance, and after register, the old Bob Dylan track " the times ,they are a changing" was played, and again on our departure.

Yep, the whole Mrs Brown thing passed me by, it gets huge ratings.

Sensitivity training in the 80's eh?

Don't think there would cut it in the pronoun specific, triggered, safespace, gender fluid world we live in today.

At the now defunct Salmon Pastures..... Then there was the Respect and Dignity Course....where the tutor actually talked common sense, and summed up in a few phrases....

I think chanting and abuse directed at family members of people involved with football clubs is pretty unacceptable, be they female, male, whatever... it really shouldn't be anything to do with them, particularly kids who aren't emotionally tough enough to deal with that kind of thing. But as for outraged by general sexist chanting (shag your women & drink your beer, tits, fanny and United etc), maybe I should be...but to be honest I couldn't really care less. The only time I've ever been genuinely "outraged" by sexism at football was when that bald idiot at the back of the kop who shouts "to 'im" every five minutes (I shouldn't mock, maybe he has mild case of tourettes or something), called me, and I quote, "a split arsed cunt who shouldn't even be at football". Some men just have all the charm don't they? Small cock syndrome I'd say ;-)

Sounds like something from "The Office"!

A significant number of football fans are thick as two short planks so casual racism, homophobia, xenophobia, sexism and supporting Brexit to 'take back our country' are par for the course.

There's plenty more racism in Europe from countries happy to stay in the EU and football fans do change as society changes.
Racism is much less of a problem now and gradually homophobia and sexism will wane.

True, especially Eastern Europe and Russia.

Caring left yet again show their true nature towards the less able working classes. Twas ever thus.

Jeremy has a good PMQ and their balls drop.

They’re hardly offensive. Let’s hope they don’t.

Well ..... somebody will certainly take offence at them on somebody else's behalf ...... so I'm sorry mate

They've got to go ...... we can't risk somebody being "3rd party offended" can we o_O
