I agree with that, but the same could be said of any player. Your best players aka Hamer and Seriki are naturally going to want improved terms when they know that they're the best players, but within reason. They're unlikely to get ousted by a homegrown player.

Starting negotiations in their final year is naive as you have until January 1st to get them to sign or they can sign a pre-contract agreement with other clubs, or you accept that they're not going to sign and keep them until the end of the season in the desperate hope that you'll get promoted and they'll sign a new deal in the summer, or you sell them for a crap amount in January as clubs will take advantage of the contract situation.

I don't have much faith with our club as we seem to always end up worse off with sales, contracts expiring etc....

We really dont. People just choose to remember the moments when it doesn't suit us as fans.

We could do this novel thing all the other clubs manage to do and offer players (especially ones come through from the U21s) an improved contract as a reward for breaking into the first team.

I don’t know why everything has to be left until the last 12 months. We should be tying down our key assets and building the team around them.

I've been pretty consistent in my praise for Seriki, I think he has a very high ceiling and I'm surprised there hasn't been more interest from the PL after some of his performances.
The offer from Sassuolo is ridiculous.

The one thing I was really looking forward to this season was watching him and Brooks develop down our right.
I'll be hugely disappointed if he does go, but also not surprised as I don't think he fits into Wilder's "culture," and is another one Wilder was reluctant to offer too much credit to last season.

Anyway, fingers crossed. If he's still on junior wages we should sort that out. We don't have much of an attacking threat and he at least offers something.

Wilder offered him nothing but praise. He is our messiah, and treats all the players fantastically with his tactical genius
