We beat Leeds at the Lane 2 days later, in front of 20,562.

That was actually our 4th highest gate that season, behind the Man U gate on the first day, the derby game in November, and just 70 less than the gate against Liverpool. It was above our average that season which was only 18,801. This was the time when United were having to re-build support after the wilderness years of the late 70’s and 80’s, albeit against a perennial struggle against the odds and relegation.

The FB front cover after the defeat in the semi-final was more of a defiant statement, although the editorial did question how United could tempt back the thousands who had been to Wembley, whilst doubting that there was anything that Dave Bassett could do about it, given that the season had shown that United simply weren’t good enough to prosper in the top flight, and were simply destined to constantly battle for their existence because of - as it ever was - the Board.

Yes I think Bassett said at the time and subsequently if the board had shown a little ambition we'd be an established top flight club.

Instead our shit for brain owners thought that summer it was a good idea to sell Deane and replace him with Flo, and sign donkeys like Falconer thus consigning us to relegation and 14 years in the wilderness.

Similarly we have a board and chairman who in January decided not to strengthen the side or pay bills and remains to be seen if this will consign us to another play off defeat.

There's a small chance they may decide it's 12.15. Still, if you book an early train you'll be fine whenever KO is.
Yeah, early early train youre still having pre-game drinks. Then a night out in London. Some people I just do not understand the hassle they're making about it.

What's the issue with hotels? What day you staying over? The Saturday? Why not book a hotel on booking. Com where you get free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance? Hotels aren't an issue. Even trains aren't an issue. We KNOW the game is Saturday. We KNOW it's after 3pm. So what's the train issue if you are staying the saturday?

I just don't get it. My brother booked their hotel before we'd even beat Blackburn. Covered all bases, got in early, Friday and Saturday. Just have to cancel the Friday night one.
London hotel prices are bleak on the Saturday due to the Marathon.

Some smart Blades I know have shown cat like agility in booking rooms at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.

Now, where's me shuttlecock?

I’ve got hotel rooms booked for the Saturday and also a minibus booked as well. Will cancel the hotels once I’ve agreed times with the minibus bloke. Pricey but I’d rather get there and back in the day and my dad and 2 kids will make getting across London on the tube a hassle, plus the last train back will be rammed.

Would expect the club to announce the details early this week with ticket details to follow shortly afterwards. Not ITK, it just makes sense with only 4 weeks to go.

Foden's just had his appendix out, so might not be fit by the mystery kick off time.

Friday night. 630 when everyone's sat dahn fo chippy tea. On proper newspaper wi vinegar first, salt sticking to vinegar, breadcake smothered in butter not even spread reyt.

Any better for anyone? Or for the love of God, will we all accept it's Saturday bastard evening?!!!!

Last season's semi final on the Saturday kicked off at 3.30pm.
Weird time, no idea why?
If they want to attract more viewers then it will be after the 3pm games finish.

Something to do with the trains from the North West. Someone has mentioned it earlier on this thread but can't be arsed to look back through.

Engineering works, IIRC. Last trains back from Euston departed earlier in the evening.

My guess is the delay is down to the powers that be trying to agree some additional trains for after the game to avoid everyone expecting to pile on the last one.

One of the first sensible posts in here for awhile! Quite possibly.

Very true, or they could just have the game start earlier. Wouldn't that make more sense?

Bit pointless arranging extra trains when all the trains will probably be cancelled due to strikes anyway...

Hopefully shouldn't be any further train strikes after RMT agreed a pay deal last week.

From reading the City forum, their last train is at 9pm so there was some talk of pushback from City at the proposed 17:00ish kick off.
