Tammy Abraham (loan from Chelski) and Sean Maguire of Preston North end. I'd go 4-2-3-1, or some variant thereof.

There is a remote chance that Abraham will make a loan move to the Championship due to his largely unsuccessful spell at Swansea. However, if he does, there will be a long list of suitors, many with deeper pockets than us. The most likely destination would be Derby I'd guess, what with Lampard's connections.

As for Maguire, he's just signed a new deal at Preston so he appears to be happy - I'd imagine we'd have to offer him a substantial pay-rise to tempt him here. Considering we pay simalar wages to Preston already, that might not be possible.
This is before considering the fee (They demanded over £8m for Hugill) or realising that presently, Preston are probably regarded as more established and more likely to be promoted than us.

In short, I don't think either are likely.

You're probably right. We could, however, make a similar appraisal of the likelihood of signing Hogan and Hugill. The financial realities of the Championship are another reason why two up top is difficult.Midfielders are cheaper.I can't think of many center forwards that fit the bill to be honest. They're either unrealistic, or not good enough.Even the realistic ones would require big financial packages that good be put towards permanent transfers (assets).

We could and we should. I would categorise both players as unattainable, with Abraham and Maguire.
Any fan, hoping for or expecting this calibre of player will be bitterly dissapointed I feel.

This is precisely we (as a fanbase) need to temper our expectations. We either sign a cheap, steady player but don't progress or we gamble on a young or out of favour player, like Gallagher, in the hope they reach their potential and push us on.

Th fundamental difference was the reversion from high press to counter attack.Chalk and cheese when compared to the previous matches. We did similar at Elland road to get the winner.

You're correct.CW changed to a 4 at the back on numerous occasions in our league 1 campaign during the course of a game pushing Basham into midfield. Less so last year as we adapted to the pace of the championship. Against the pigs away he played with a deep lying midfield 3 with Basham in there to stifle Bannan which worked well until they pulled back to 2-2. Duffy came on and we reverted to the preferred 3-4-1-2 formation. Next match against Wolves same starting formation same change. Probably 2 of Bashams best performances last season.

After Coutts injury trying to find a preferred formation to get us back on track we went 3-5-1-1. Away from home against Norwich it worked but towards the latter end of the season when Duffys was being rested it didn't as we ran out of ideas without a natural number 10 starting.

Point is CW changes formation on numerous occasions during the course of a game depending on the opposition and how the game is going. 4-2-3-1 seemed to be the formation he played with Northampton and Oxford. Not sure if we have the personnel at the back yet to try this but it we did I would have used this as a starting formation last season away against Wolves and Fulham who were the only teams to tear us apart.

Exactly. The difficulty of obtaining quality strikers; the fact Mark Duffy isn't getting any younger and the fact we are being linked with the likes of Marcus Maddisson, are all reasons why this could become more common.I see Mark Duffy as the key to our pressing game. Wilder changes the whole off the ball setup when Brooks plays. You could also add in the mix the physical demand on the ageing Clarke and Sharp as reasons why we might change style or formation slightly.

In parts, yes. The formation wasn’t changed though, we just had a deeper lying forward behind the main striker. We always press, home and away, just to different extents in different games.

With the rumours from everywhere it seems this one has some legs init.

Alan Nixon says we are interested in him on Twitter. From what I’ve seen he’s usually on the money with these type of things.

Says expensive though even on loan - so doesn’t look like it’s nailed on or anything. Be nice if we pulled it off though - exciting young player from a good academy.

I would prefer us to buy ahead of loan but obviously it’s down to figures. I cannot see CW paying high price for a loan. On a purchase you have increased asset depending on his performances etc.

The Star are running with this one again today, saying we'll 'redouble' efforts to sign him this week.

So presumably we are quadrupling our efforts.

Also says that we can expect 'big news' on the transfer at some point this week.

We need it - not least because it could help convince the likes of JOC and Fleck to stay for another season.

Buddy you missed on the other thread where I ask for the quote from sufc.co.uk that Jack Robinson was our main target. Must not have popped up as a notification.

Apparently Southampton are in the market for a new striker therefore looks more likely Gallagher could be on his way out.

Just means were employing a second person to say we can't afford that, we've got a low budget, come on help us out with a cheap loan deal etc etc
