Retained List

I hope they don’t release the list and make you all wait until an hour before the first match kicks off when the team is released. Never seen so much whining over a fucking list!
It's not really the late releasing of the list - it's chatting about who should or shoudn't stay on a playing contract.

Nope but none are currently good enough to play at Prem level (as shown by PH's team selection at a level below). I would expect every single one on Utd's submitted squad list to be able to do a job if required next season - what is the point of carrying players that can't. If it means going with a slightly smaller squad then so be it.

It won't do Arblaster or Coulibaly any good to play in the U23s and occasionally sit on the bench - they need to either go out on loan if PH thinks they may come good in time or be moved on if not.

In the case of Osborn, I would go as far to say that Utd would lose any game he plays LCM or LWB next season due to how much of a weak link he'd be. He's been on very decent money and it would a complete waste if more were spent to keep him.
Osborn played 13 games for us in our first season back up in the PL and we finished 9th. He's now in his prime, more experienced and certainly no worse a player than before.

It's absolutely ridiculous to talk about players like that when we all have seen evidence to the contrary. Get a grip!

AUTO REPLY: Thank you for your message. I am currently away from this thread, flouncing on the 2023/24 kit thread. If your message is urgent and relates to flouncing about the 2022/23 retained list, please direct message me and entitle your message: 'WeEaRz ReTaInEd LiSt?!?!?!'

Kind regards.

It's an absolute disgrace that we still haven't sorted this. It's this type of thing that makes me regret supporting United at times. Rochdale, fucking Rochdale have theirs out and we are still fannying around writing the fucking press release😡
This is a comedy post, right?!

Sounds like you've lost your grip lad.

It's a rather passionate response to an opinion.

Also, you're only as good as your last game. I've seen nothing to suggest Osborn is good enough at Championship level, nevermind Premier League.
The Retained list is like Darkness and Death,it will come when it comes.(Bob Dylan,Murder Most Foul)

We never attacked, we were on a hiding to nothing every game. It could be argued Ramsdale fell apart because of the shocking defence in front of him.

Most only hate Ramsdale because of what he said about us in a lads piece....
Agree.

Ramsdale might have acted like a dick, but he’s a better keeper than Wes in my view.

Wes had done superbly, better than I thought he would and might well prove me wrong again in the Prem.

But my view currently is that he will be more exposed in that division, and in an ideal world we need another option. Davies isn’t that option. Some might say that he’s an internationally capped player, but so was Robin Olsen and he’s one of the worst keepers I’ve ever seen

Didn't mean it to come across too heavy, apologies if so.

I don't agree you are only as good as your last game, surely you'd offer a contract to a top player like Ndiaye even if his last game was dreadful.

Osborn has played his entire career in the top two divisions, and played well enough to earn a move to the PL. Yet you think he might be a league 1 player?

When we went up last time, none of our players had shown anything to suggest that they were good enough at PL level, and neither had any of our signings. We finished 9th anyway.

We can't, and don't need to stock up on proven PL quality to stay up. If any fans in the country should know this, it's ours.

This is fucking outrageous, I’m fucking outraged…

Reads the opposite, i.e. it was Norwood that had the option. We may well have done as well, sure

It’s circumstance more than any thing. Triggered by reaching a certain Sno of games played. Bash had a similar clause

We'd all love the retained list but if the delay means that there's more answers when it comes out then that's fine. I thought they might just say the club remains in negotiations with (insert players names) but maybe they want full clarification prior to the release of the retained list. Does seem to be taking a while though for sure!

That's it. This is the last straw. I'm going to support a club who are going places, massive and have already released their retained list. Now, where did I put that blue and white emergency toilet roll?

Osborn will never play 30+ games in a season for us. The reason is simple, he's not first team quality. He's "ok" in bits and fill ins. For this reason, he and united would be better off parting ways for him to get first team football.

Why do you think we need a CCB?

Surely 4 of the back 5 are Baldock-Anel-Egan-RND?

The other depends where you see Norrington-Davies. So we either need a LCB or a LWB or one that can actually play both.
We need 2 players in each position
So we would have to play Basham if Ahmedhodzic is injured or suspended and also if Egan is missing. Scary plan
We didn't have enough cover for CCB last season but got away with it coz apart from suspension , Egan was ever present - he's extremely injury-resistant but he's getting older.
Anel picked up a lot of bookings last season + logic suggests he'll get more next season.
We have to consider the possibility of both Anel & Egan being out.
When Anel is out , our cover is Bash , and we've yet to see whether Bash (who wasn't first choice in the Championship) could now cope in the PL - I see him as emergency cover only.
If Egan is out , Anel moves across + the cover is still Bash - this cover is too thin for a PL campaign - I don't count Baldock as RCB cover coz he is first choice RWB.
Our defence will be far busier next season + I imagine we'll stay with 3 at the back.
We definitely need a R-footed CB who is younger & potentially better than Bash , who can cover RCB & CCB.
On the left side , we had Clark but he barely played when fit and was mainly unfit - he definitely needs replacing with a L-footed CB who is first choice ahead of Robinson.
A big question mark hangs over RND after his long absence from such a serious injury.
Hopefully he gets fit and he & Lowe can duke it out for LWB.
PL attackers are mainly strong , athletic types and I just don't see Osborn being anywhere near to the matchday squad , even if he is kept on as cover.

De Gea?

He's 29 by the time we start the season. He is at an age where he doesn't need first team football to develop (although I'm sure some here would still have Jebbison out on loan ten years from now). Why do you think he would prioritise getting additional minutes on the field compared to more money with what is a limited amount of time in his career left?

Imo, the hunger for the restrained list has nothing to do with who's leaving. It has everything to do with what it indicated for our budget for the coming window: Releasing 2 first team players and 3 from the periphery v's releasing 6 from the first team and 3 U23’s speaks volumes.

I just can't think of any logical reason to give Ozzy a new contract. If it's cover we are after, there's got to be bigger, more athletic options available on frees.

Exactly, so get rid.

Spot on. When potentially renewing his contract you have to ask yourself all things being equal and for the overall cost of his new contract is he the best that we could attract or is there others (probably younger) players we could obtain for the same outlay throughout the football league/PL. If the answer is he is definitely the best we can attract then by all means offer him a contract. If he's not, then quite simply let him go. After watching him these last 3 years I'm of the opinion that there are better out there for the same or even less of a financial outlay. He is also injury prone. Time to cut him loose.
