Was at swillsboro for 4.0. Watched us drop to the 4th division against Walsall. Been to all the playoff finals, cup semis since the Wendy at Wembley.
My lads first experience was Wolves at the millennium stadium, couldn't get a word out of him for 3 days after.
After all that disappointment have we lost our love for the Blades?, no feckin way, this is a lifelong love for my team and onwards and upwards. UTB.
Steelcitysenior I'm like you been to all them games, I took my youngest to Wolves games he's nearly 35 now, but he was gutted I don't think I've seen so many heartbroken children as that day. As you say United are a lifelong love affair and we go back no matter what, Walsall was bad and many other bad days but I do try to remember the good times. It's not hard we ain't had many lol, I would never swap being a Blade met some great mates had Tony Currie sat on me sofa so I'm a happy old man.

I agree with West Yorks Blade, with Wilder fans had someone to identify with, he was one of ours he wasn't a happy badge kisser, he was a true loyal Blade sadly it's not ended how we'd have all liked.

I wasn’t alive when we sold Deane and Agana on the same day. I wasn’t alive at the end of the the Bassett years. I was still young when we last got relegated from the prem and sacked Warnock. This is the first time I’ve had one of these horrendous experiences following united.
And I’m in bits, this is absolutely horrendous, it feels like a close family member has died, there’s a knot in my stomach, I’m drinking and drinking and drinking. It’s horrendous. All of you than have gone through this repeatedly then full respect. I’ve got nothing more to say.
We didn't sell Deane and Agana on the same day.
I was gutted when Agana got sold to Notts County, but shortly after Deano returned from flu and we smashed Wendy 2-0 at the Lane.
I was gutted at Abbey Lane watching Cambridge relegate us.
I was more gutted when Wallsall relegated us to the 4th.
I was gutted when we sold Deane and Fjortoff.
The Palace, Wolves, Burnley and Huddersfield final defeats were horrendous.
I was gutted watching Wigan relegate us.
After watching Lundstram stroll around for the last few matches, this doesn't even come close.

Cheer up lads and lasses - and those inbetween. It's only 22 men kicking a piece of leather around. What's to get so uptight about? No one has died.

Anyone who was at the Walsall game or Chelsea when we went down knows that this is just another day.
That bloody Chelsea game, I was working in Slough but hadn't got moved to Maidenhead so I had to drive Slough to Morley on Friday afternoon, Morley to Sheffield and back on Saturday (I went by coach from Bramall Lane) and then Morley back to Slough on Sunday afternoon ready for work on Monday.

What a crap weekend that was 800 miles of travelling and a last minute relegation.

I felt much worse then than I do today!

I’m disappointed but not shocked. Wilders pronouncements were pointing to this since January. Unlikely that we’ll know which straw finally broke the camels back but it’s churlish to put ALL the blame, as some of done, on one party,
Agreed.

As far as I can see Wilder was the architect of his own downfall.

Bad mouthing your employer never ends well.

So did Bert, it wasn't till we got out of the ground that the other scores started to come in.

I've taken great pleasure in watching that bastard slide down the leagues. The only player I've genuine "insider info" on. He hated it at United and couldn't get away quick enough.
Went to the youth cup semi final vs Man U. Overheard talk about some young 'uns quite unhappy, scared even, as the manager of them didn't treat them very well.
Bullying/harassment. Don't know if there was any truth to it.

Which Chelsea game?
There was the Stamford Bridge one following some dubious goalkeeping by some scouser teams goalies (alleged of course) and I seem to remember, in the very dim and distant past, the last game of the season in Division 1 when we hosted Chelsea lost, was it 0 - 2 and went down.

Think we need to post a thread with the hotline number to the Samaritans and put it as a sticky.

Also maybe the AA clinic, drinking doesn't help...well it does, but then you get a nasty hangover and regret it even more and start crying like a big baby even more so.
............ and if you keep on drinking, in an excessive and unhealthy manner, you get pancreatitis - and that really, really hurts!

The one at Stamford Bridge when Stein scored in the last minute and sent us down along with the fix at Everton.

Ah, but which Chelsea game are we talking about?😊

Edit - just seen your post #71!

It was 1-2 after being a goal up.

Mind you, three games earlier we were 2-0 up at home to already relegated Fulham and yet still contrived to lose 2-3.

A win in either of those matches would have kept us up.

I’ve always thought it would have been a huge risk to nobble the Everton game when a win would have kept us up. If I had the power to fix games, I’d have tried to make sure I fixed both of them. It’s never sat easy with me. I did once go through the goals Segers conceded on YouTube with a semi-pro keeper (not the chubby one) and he wasn’t convinced.

Over the last few years, I have begun to realise one important thing in respect of football. When you have something to enjoy or celebrate make sure that you make the most of that opportunity, because for most football supporters there’s a lot of disappointment to go through in between.

Yeh, that scouser goalie.
The other Chelsea game was at the Lane on 11th May 1968. We lost 1 - 2 went down on 32 points 5 more than Fulham who were bottom.

Was at both of those games, a real sucker for punishment. Some people never learn!

Not gonna lie jan aage fjortoft going hit me harder,I was around 11 and I totally loved the guy his aeroplane celebration was what I copied in the school playground,he was the shearer of sheff utd,yet this as hurt but as you get older you realise their is a lot more to life than a manager leaving and who knows what will happen history suggests we'll probably not experience this past 4-5 years for a while but that's all it is that's suggesting that,we don't usually have 2 great managers back to back whos to say we won't this time we have to think like my last chlamydia test.

Bert's late best mate was in the Sheffield CID and a Wednesdayite.

After that game was on Match of the Day he rang Bert, all he said was "That match was a fix"

Well.

It's been a fucker of a few days for sure.

I learned a lot of lessons when Ms Crab passed, one of the most important ones was perspective. What I'm trying to say is that when you follow the Blades, this sort of thing will ever be thus. You'll get run of the mill shite, and you will get days in the Sun.

One of the other lessons I learned was that you embrace the days in the Sun because as much as they feel like they will last forever, they don't. All you can do is hunker down and hope the Sun will come back.

This is one of the dark times in our history, but not the worst. Better days will come. Owners, managers, players come and go. Some leave a legacy, a lot don't. It's the way of things when you support a club like this.

As a mere 40 year old, I've not seen as many of the highs and lows as others, but I've seen enough. I remember being inconsolable as a kid in the 80s getting relegated, listening to the Chelsea debacle on the radio etc etc. But now? I've watched this all unfold with a wry smile on my face. Not because it's funny, but simply because it's all so very Sheffield United isn't it? I texted my dad last night just to say it appeared we were imploding again, he just replied along the lines of "it wouldn't be the same if they didn't". It's very disappointing to say the least, but as the rather clichéd phrase goes, you don't support Sheffield United for the glory!

You might not have seen as many buddy but it's the Blades so...............
