So do I Kenty. Adams has far more experience than SOD and like Bassett's teams did, I believe his teams will play to a greater level than individual players have done so far

Time will tell who is right, but i'm with you two on this.

Don't think any of our players are rubbish full stop, just that some of them play that way sometimes. With the right man in charge I hope we'll see them all playing to their potential more often than not. Even Nosworthy.

Brampton - lots of people on here share your view of football. Most players and owners don't know what it's like to stand on the Kop and the game feels like it's run by crooks and swindlers who are simply out to feather their own nests and to look after their own favourites. And the Tevez Affair etc have made all this feel very personal to the BDTBL faithful.

Now about MA. For my money it's too early to make any judgement about the bloke. One one hand, it feels very much like SUFC are stuck in Groundhog Day. The whole of the wide world of football moves on (as the World Cup showed this year), but we wind the clock back and get in Warnock mk II. I'm sure his passion will be a great asset, but his comments about "getting the ball quickly into the box without the extra touch" (see Foxy's thread re his appointment) sounds like Bassett route one to me. On the other hand, Savage (in the Mirror) says he likes to play posession football. We'll just have to see.

My feelings at the moment are that this is a cheap and safe option to secure our immediate future - but that in the bigger picture, this reflects that the club has lost all the drive and ambition it had five years ago.

Having said that - MA is now our manager, and I'll be 100% behind him.

I cannot believe the utter garbage spouted on here about the merits of this manager or that manager!
People who are wanting to slit there throats because O'Driscoll prefered to stay at Donny Rovers - perhaps he's in a comfort zone, safe in the knowledge that if they finish halfway in the Championship that is regarded as utopia - the Blades are different to that! the 'fans' expect nothing but promotion.
Robson, Blackwell and Speed proved they were not up to the task - Lets give Micky Adams a chance
I for one think this is an excellent appointment - no matter who is in charge if you don't have players that can pass and move you can't play pure football -It's simple!
What Adams will do is initially get the best out of the crock of sh!te he has inherited and hopefully one or two modest additions will ensure we don't go down!
Next year, plan and develop for improvement
Give the guy a chance
All this spouting off about SOD, Phil Brown, etc etc etc Forget it Mickeys in the seat now lets get behind him 100%

What have you done with Fiery and can we have him back in the new year?

i dont agree nor disagree with you here brampton, presonally i like to read between the lines myself, regarding blackwell,i thought he was a dead man walking at the start of the season, when we signed players and trevor birch was doing the press interviews mmmm, spoke volumes to me that.as regards mickey adams personally i like the bloke,in his press interview he says it as it is ........ WE ARE IN THE SHIT,a team low on confidence shipping goals like no ones buisness needs to be sorted asap. i dont care what sort of game we play at present so long as we get away from the bottom of the league. and dont forget this guy has been promoted with a few teams playing decent football in the past, give him a chance who else did you really expect ???? o,driscoll, no seems to work on a 5 year plan, andy scott no,unproven, phil brown mmm not sure, did,nt do that great at derby and humiliating players on the pitch aint good for morale.brian laws no chance, fergie jnr crap, eddie howe, unproven...... we aint gonna get o,neil, wenger, fergie, redknapp or anybody of that calibre,we are skint and the latter managers need plenty of dosh

Great post Fiery, very rare I have anything positive to say about our club but I agree with your every word on this.

With all the bad management at BDTBL over recent years we are in the position we deserve, Micky will keep us up and given the right backing will have us competing again.

He will also have my 100% backing, it's the Board that sicken me with their constant bullshit!

You nipping down to the Rose and Crown/Victoria/The Star tonight Brampton? Or is it a different Brampton to Brampton, Chesterfield.

Top post Brampton. As you say, its the board of directors which are ruining the club with their bullshit. We'll have to wait and see, couple of pacey players and the whole thing could look very different but where I disagree with alot on here is the sentiment that SOD meant relegation and Adams means definite safety. The fact is we have a terrible squad and Adams or anyone has their work cut out, but 4th bottom should be no problem. Anyway, I have reluctantly accepted that SOD is not coming and good luck Micky!!!

If we had appointed SOD and he took us down trying to transform the club, would you be happier than Adams kicking and scrapping and keeping us up?

Very good question. I am convinced the current bottom 3 are going down, maybe Palace will pick up in which case we might have a problem, but I think we'd have been fine with SOD - even if that is 4th bottom.

But, no, simple answer is I'd prefer us to stay up.

I think/hope the bottom three will be preston, scunthorpe, with perhaps bristol/middlesboro/palace/united scrapping for the last place.

I really hope you are right, but wasn't the point of this appointment to cement the Blades future plans and change our whole way of playing. MA = poor man's NW and he should never have been let go but that's another story!!!!!!

Understand how you feel but I did say chosen from the names which were quoted as having applied and being considered by the club.
If SOD had turned us down then from the names left surely Adams is the best option.
Personally I would have preferred someone with more experience at premiership level with a track record of success but if they are not on the agenda the club has to go with the applicants.
Why would SOD turn us down,we will never know the true reason but perhaps he feels his next move is direct to a premiership club, or that Doncaster get there first.
Funny old game is football and even more hair raising if one has ever been involved on the inside of the game, not as it appears I can assure you.

This is the first time I have started a post on this site and I will probably will get slaughtered for it but here goes.........
I believe the appointment of Adams is another case of the Blades taking the cheap option! and with that relegation, as much as I hope it does not happen is nailed on. I love Alan Cork, great memories but I feel cheated by Mr Birch and his cronies!!!! all this talk about changing the way we play, planning for the future, the Blades way! it's all BOLLOCKS. It's all cut cut cut and get the fans to keep coughing up and it will all be fine yet again. I really believved that this time they were going to try and put things right but oh no! I am not going to offer arguements only the opinion of a Loyal Blade of over 35 years and if you are honest a lot of you feel the same way too but won't admit to it!!!!!!!!! My love of football in general is slowly but surely diminishing, players on £250,000 a week, foreign owners pulling our clubs further away from us day by day, the national game less important than the champions league Fuck it!. If you want a great football story look at Afc Wimbledon now that is fan power!.
So there you have it, go ahead do your worst, slag me off, pick me up on my grammer but do not ever question my passion for a team called SHEFFIELD UNITED

I wont slag you off mate, but all i will say i just give Adams some time.

Lets get safe this season & then we can see about sorting the style of play.

You have the right Brampton mate but i will be staying in tonight with the family though I am rather partial to a drop of the old brampton breweries ale in the Rose and Crown and the newly opened Tramway tavern....Cheers and Happy New Year to all the Blades on this site!!!
You nipping down to the Rose and Crown/Victoria/The Star tonight Brampton? Or is it a different Brampton to Brampton, Chesterfield.

Right i haven't gone through all 3 pages so this maybe a repeat. I am not a fan on here who is refered to as a clapper, i do slag the team off or previous mangers if i feel the need, but to post on here slagging off our new manager before he has even taken his first training session never mind game in unbelievable. Next, it is common knowledge that Adams is a blade his mum still lives in Brinsworth and the whole family are blades. As for the cheap option, don't agree 100% cheaper than SOD yes am sure he is but to pay out compo and sack 2 assistants isn't cheap from a blades point of view especially carver who will have had at least 18 months to run on his contract. The cheap option would have been Carver or Craig Short so he is definitely not the cheapest option. I will not question your passion for SUFC but don't question adams either as you never know he maybe a bigger fan than you.

I'm with you here sb, besides that SOD inherited a good squad of players playing "carpet football" from Dave Penney, he just had to polish the diamond, and we all know you can't polish a turd!!.

I am not questioning his passion, I met MA once and he seems a top bloke as you say a Blade through and through, but this is not the move forward the club bragged of is it !!!!. I read your posts quite often and you make some good points. I feel this is a step backwards by the board who have promised us so much but given so little, maybe if we as supporters were as fickle about which games we went to maybe they would listen to us a little more. When Warnock joined the club he turned things around and helped to create the feeling of a family club but those days are over! It's all hush hush and what do they know! I know one thing , 4 years ago I used to buy 5 season tickets a season, that number is down to 2 and even the 2nd one comes under duress!!!!!! Maybe my my wife is right- "When will the penny finally drop?"

Hello Mendonca, not seen you since I managed to sort you a ticket for the Liverpool semi some years ago! Hope you are right cheers!

Aye cheers Brampton - I have seen you around once or twice on match days, but not near enough to say hello!! Will grab you the next opportunity.....so to speak.....

edit: major quote failure!!

Hi boys and girls, first of all compliments of the season to you all!

I think you, and every other contributor, make some good points, however I do think we have to accept that the club, or the board, don't have limited ambition, we have limited finances. We all have to face up to that. The fact that the board announced that Adams was unanimously chosen by the board speaks not of unity, but of efficiency. An impact manager who can succeed in the face of adversity!

Adams would not have been my first choice to be at the helm, but there again, I don't really know who should have got the job, I'd like to have seen big Sam, but I doubt we could have met his wage demands even if we were in the prem!

On the plus side, I do like the idea of a Blade being in charge, rather like an Englishman being in charge of England. I like the idea of former heros, like Corky, returning, I think connections such as that can be very important. The football may not be cultured, but it will (hopefully) be exciting! Let's be fair, we were all getting a bit bored with the midfield and back four just passing the ball around, until we gave it away and went a goal down type of football we played under Speed.

If we play like we did under Sir 'Arry or Warnock it'll be edge of your seat, blink and you'll miss it football, football that stirs the blood and precipitates passion from the stands! Yes it is footy on the cheap, just like a RyanAir flight, and in the same vane, we won't have a f**king clue where we'll land!!!!

Rock on, bring on the carnage.

i dont think its a backward step appointing MA,i feel sometimes that although Mccabe has done good for the club in the past,he is very very good at the old SPIN bollocks,we dont hear much from him these days, but when we do its like listening to a politician you go away thinking everything in the garden is rosy and what are we worrying about ? very good at deflecting the shit. when we had the chance to make forward steps in the premier league what did we do ? bought has beens and past sell buy date players, that was the backward step, yet again the cheap option.
