Was thinking today since Ive been attending in 1985/86 we have faced a few relegation battles but the only time I recall us escaping is 90/91, we had 4 points after 16 games and against all odds stayed up, with games to spare as well.

This current side reminds me of the Mickey Adams side that ended up going down, not enough goals in it and a mismatch of squad players that add nothing. Attackers that don't score and midfield that dont either.

Our track record of successfully fighting our way out of a relegation position is woeful over the last 50 years. The Bassett 90/91 season is the easy one & I would also give Hecky massive credit for 21/22 season after he replaced Slav….. think we were in bottom 3 when he took over.

If Wilder gets us safe & to a top half finish it will be a good achievement from where we are.

I reckon you'd be better recalling 2000-01, 2001-02, damp squib mid table transitional seasons under Warnock where we had little firepower, nowt to really excite us but were never really in bother either.

I'm sure we'll move out of any danger quite comfortably, but leave ourselves with about 10 completely bleedin pointless games at the back end of the season to 'blood the youngsters'.

I hope you are right……. I’m not so confident. Really worried that first game back after int break we manage to lose at home to Watford……

Bit like playoffs then

Been going since 93 so never seen us escape a relegation dog fight.

Think this side differs from the 2010/2011 side. That was devoid of any quality and barely had enough players to get an 11 out most weeks. Relied on kids and short term loans. No proper goalkeeper plus Chris Morgan’s injury did for us in a big way, left us with Neil Collins and a weekly guest player at centre half. Only bright spot was Andy Reid’s 3 game loan.

We stayed up in 1992/3 as well. That went to the final day, albeit that we were probably safe with one game to go because of our goal difference.
But I agree with the general sentiment of your post. In the last half century we generally haven't been very good at getting out of relegation trouble if it goes late into the season.
