It's just corruption. There's no other explanation.

It’s the big teams that sell the PL brand and that’s why they get protected by refs and their extended brothers at Var and at the moment there’s a threat to the PL with Saudi League, an upstart like us getting a result against a big team would upset the Apple cart. Perhaps I’m falling out of love with football it’s not about the fans anymore.I sometimes grumble about referees, but I rarely boo them.
I booed that prick today.
Granted its a match we were never likely to win, but it doesn't help when you're playing 12. Every challenge on them was instantly blown for, often followed by a yellow card. He gave us nothing, despite numerous pushes, slaps and prods.
The amount of protection Haaland gets is unreal.
Ref today was a disgrace, but we better get used to it, the EPL isn't about sport, it's about money, and maintaining the status quo.
I agree, been feeling like this for ages. Took a bit of the shine off promotion. It’s the big teams that sell the PL brand and that’s why they get protected by refs and their extended brothers at Var and at the moment there’s a threat to the PL with Saudi League, an upstart like us getting a result against a big team would upset the Apple cart. Microphones on refs, and dare i say it, if AI ever becomes accurate and advanced enough, it could be a useful, unbiased tool to guide referees in decision making - so long as the process is transparent (there are reasons given for overriding it's decisions)You wonder if the clear bias and favouritism can ever be truly stamped out. It would probably go a long way if fans could put aside a their own club leanings, agree shit refs ruin the game they enjoy and so call out shit reffing when they see it. Fat chance of that though.
They'd fix it.I don’t know how to program anything more than an Acorn computer but if all the rules were put into an AI generated referee I wonder what the independent results would be?
On the odd occasions this does happen, you don't hear the end of it for weeks in the media. It then won't happen again. The decisions made by the referee today will barely get a mention. Not very often does a big 6 team get a late penalty given against them causing them to lose the 3 points.
On the John Street stand?
Does anyone know what was happening? Hoping the person is ok
Spot on. That’s the unconscious bias bit, it doesn’t need to be outright cheating, it’s more the ref(s) are more considerate of the team they feel more affiliated with. As you say, treat one team a certain way because they feel affectionate towards them, and one another because you don’t.Suppose a neutral might find it hard to understand but for me it was like he had two rulebooks one for us and one for them
Agree with the penalty - it's a clear one based on the current application of the rules. It would surely make football better if indirect free kicks were brought back for unintentional handball where the player gains an advantage.I think the penalty probably was in this day and age but the rest of what I saw was just unbelievable. People ask for consistency but actually we already have it because consistently we see the same thing, the big clubs get the decisions and the rest of us don’t.
That's the only thing the twat got right all match then.Anyone know what the rule is with medical incidents?
The referee kept looking over to the stand but didn't stop play even though it was obvious something was going on.
Microphones on refs in rugby league seems to work perfectly well but not in the secretive world of the football referee. We, as fans, see certain decisions being made on the pitch which do not seem to be consistent but no explanations are ever forthcoming afterwards from match officials. Perhaps Macca should make public the conversation he had with that tosser after the game.Microphones on refs, and dare i say it, if AI ever becomes accurate and advanced enough, it could be a useful, unbiased tool to guide referees in decision making - so long as the process is transparent (there are reasons given for overriding it's decisions)
If we dont see him there will be another plonker just like him . I said last year that if we got promoted get ready for diabolical refs who make decisions that always favour the top 8 clubs . On Saturday a penalty was ruled out when a player was falling and the ball hit his hand Against City they were awarded a penalty for the ball hitting Egans hand when he was falling and putting his hand out to break his fall. Why was it not a penalty on Saturday but was one on Sunday? Why was it that the Blades had to wait until the 56 min before they were awarded a free kick ? Why was the young lad booked after HE was fouled and city were awarded a free kick . I am just waiting now for the next idiot or dare I say bent bastard in black who shows up for our next game against Everton because no matter who it is I will guarantee there will be some awful decisions that just wont add up or will smell of preference to the established prem team . This is the price you pay when you get promotion to the prem .It has been like it for years and no doubt will be like it for the next few years to .Dearly me, that was a very poor display of refereeing. Hope we don’t see him again.
I must admit that I was surprised that McBurnie was not ruled offside for our goal. That might be why the ref gave it
He can’t be offside due to Walker being off the pitch after keeping the ball in play himself, Walker then chose to stay off the pitch.I must admit that I was surprised that McBurnie was not ruled offside for our goal.
I didn’t see Walker off the pitch, but McBurnie is in the eyeline of the keeper. I was just surprised that VAR didn’t find a way to rule him off. I’m not going to turn it down, but the way the rest of the decisions went I wouldn’t have been surprised if it had been ruled off.He can’t be offside due to Walker being off the pitch after keeping the ball in play himself, Walker then chose to stay off the pitch.
You are right it was like it the last time we were in the prem and if we go down i wont mind just because you are always playing against 12 guys in this league . I was pleased that we went up mainly because we were desperate for the cash but I knew what to expect regarding the decisions we would get from the refs up to now my thoughts are correct . Will not lose any sleep if we go back down mainly because of the officials that are laughingly called referees . In fact I THINK IT COULD BE EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE BECAUSE IT IS SO BLATANT NOW .The standard of refereeing is pretty poor in every league. We used to get some shite decisions in the Championship but you could kind of understand that given that they dont really get much help and its likely to even out over the course of a season.
Where the Premier League differs is the blatant bias. They dont even try and hide it. The ref yesterday didnt actually get any big decisions wrong, however, the bias was clear to see in all the other fouls across the rest of the game. It’s complete and utter bollocks.
I’m convinced that they were looking for any reason to a) retake that penalty and b) rule out our goal. It took a ridiculously long time to review incidents where there was so obviously nothing wrong with them.
I used to think being in the Prem was absolutely the best thing for a club like ours but now I’m not really that arsed if we go down. It’s clearly bent as fuck. Its clear as day. If we’re in it then sound but I wont lose any sleep about not being in it in future.
Yesterday was a fucking disgrace and there wasnt even any big decisions he got wrong imo. It wont even be the last time it happens either. The biggest load of wank you will ever see. Fucking shite.
Exactly same type of incident in the Brighton match on Sat when a player put his arm out to break his fall and the ball hit his hand NO PENALTY because it is natural to put your hand down when falling . That was Saturday but come Sunday playing against the top club in Europe its a penalty .Strange that . So pleased we have VAR to rectify these mistakes . ER ER hang on oh dear .Agree with the penalty - it's a clear one based on the current application of the rules. According to Mike Dean on ref watch, the difference being Saturday his hand was on the floor but Egan was in the air blocking the ball to haalandExactly same type of incident in the Brighton match on Sat when a player put his arm out to break his fall and the ball hit his hand NO PENALTY because it is natural to put your hand down when falling . I admit that I didn’t know that rule but I’ve just read a piece in a Manchester paper that confirms that you are indeed correct Give yersen a pat ont backI didn’t see Walker off the pitch, but McBurnie is in the eyeline of the keeper.
