I thought he was quite fortunate on Tuesday night not get at least a talking too from the ref.
From what i could see ( On the tv in Cornwall) he stood on a Bolton players foot, when coming out of the tackle.
Not seen anyone else mention it, so maybe it was just me that thought it could be a problem .

Probably just you.. dont think standing on a foot warrants a talking to or even remotely close to a card.

He didnt leave his foot in for the interception pre Donovan assist.

I stood up and swept the ball away, if anything their lad was on the stetch going into the 50/50 as he over ran it with a poor touch, hes the one thst made the risky attempt of winning the ball.

Re watch it, theres nothing in what up does thats as you say.

philips is going to be a very important player for us this season him and redewald are 2 of the best dm in this league and after what happened at cardiff where we were overun in midfield i would play both of them in away games when both fully fit

That is true......but this referee will have seen what he is capable of.....maybe he should have a quick word before the game to mark his card and tell him to be a good boy.

He is a very good player, but they way he tackles means he walks a tightrope for a mistimed booking/red.

The tackle to win the ball for Donovan's goal other night made me wince and i'm sure some referee's would have given a foul just because of the way he aggressively goes in

Absolutely nothing wrong with his tackle before passing to RD. No leaving a foot in, no going over the ball nothing and the ref stood right next to it.

dont understand a lot of the refs, who wave play on to miles worse tackles than that one, refs are leaving all 50/50 challenges to VAR Will only need refs to start and finish a match soon

If anything and this is without my blades tinted specs on, as a qualified referee albeit I operate at a lot lower standard, you are looking for the player losing the ball, I think it's Erhahon in this case, when a player knocks a ball too far in front, he should naturally is going to speed up to get it back and is more likely to lunge in as has less thinking time. Phillips in this one was clever in the tackle and got the ball and played a wonderful pass, in the Premier League or top leagues in Europe, there would be players not wanting to take the ball like Phillips but take the lunge from Erhahon and give the referee a decision to make. I think Phillips had already spotted the left hand side pass opening up and at that time of the match it was worth a go.

That is the bit that covers under Sending-off offences under the Laws of the Game, the referee has 1 view of it in the Championship (apart from the playoff final)

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.

On slow-mo replays it looks bad but the referee sees that once, the referee has the opposite angle to the camera and is at pitch level not high in the stands, for me it was a red, it probably didn't help that it was the steel city derby and in the 2nd half. Although in theory you should be punishing challenges that deserve a red card, if that type of challenge happened in the 2nd minute vs Swansea, it might be a yellow as the referee would be trying to manage the game however as all observers (used to be assessors) would say make sure you nail the one that stands out and matters. Anything that if you watching make you cringe on tv it's a red. Against Charlton in 2008 Stephen Quinn got sent off late on, for a really bad over the ball stamp type of tackle, I was sat on the Kop in line with that and nobody blamed the referee near me it was so obvious and not needed, I know we were losing and it was late on in the match.
