Hi everyone,
I am currently conducting a research report into racism in English football and whether the rise of social media has caused a rise in racism. I would be very grateful if you could take a couple of minutes of your time to fill out this short survey for me please?

Thanks and good luck for the rest of the season

LSM, good research topic and I’ve filled out the survey. Just have a couple of questions:
What is the project for? E.g. Degree thesis. Are you using other forms of data collection, if so, what else? :)

Our fans aren’t racist they just don’t want any ‘bloody foreigners’ running our football club, coming in spending cash and trying to win us things.

Are you a local boy?

We’ll have none of that here.

I heard Derek Richardson called some terrible things but I'm not sure if there was ever a 'black' in front of them

Great research topic. Done.

In regard to q4 (Do you think there is a problem with racism at football matches?) might be worth rewording slightly due to it being a Y/N.

Is it asking if I think that football matches, in general, has a problem with racism? Or, is it asking whether, if I see racism occurring at football matches, I consider that problematic? If I say 'No', does that mean I don't see any racism as being a problem at football matches, but maybe I do elsewhere?

Also think you’re at risk of confirmation bias (I think Q7) where you ask ‘have you ever been racist at a football match?’

I think it’s important in how you measure racism because it’s a very subjective experience and numerically concluding from yes/no survey responses (if that’s your main form of data collection) isn’t in depth enough. Perhaps you’re doing qualitative analysis too? There’s been some recent issues such as the cases of Eni Aluko and Rhian Brewster whereby they have been victims to hate speech and racist attacks online. VB

The problem with this survey is racists never think they or others are being racist.

In 30 years of watching the Blades, I've only ever witnessed racism once at The Lane, and that was some cunt near the front of the Kop, calling an opposition player whatever, circa 1994. Everyone sitting within earshot of him looked suitably appalled. But that's not to say that it isn't an issue at other clubs/grounds

Remember playing spurs in the prem when we beat them 2-1.

Every time Robbie Keane got the ball some fella behind me on the Kop was shouting about him being an Irish Bastard & this & that. Was with my Irish son who was about 10 at the time. Ended up giving the chap an earful & he didn’t have a clue he was being racist!!

Comes in all shapes & sizes sadly, but thankfully that’s the 1 & only time in my 37 years of being a Blade I’ve heard anything untoward.

You see, Blades fans disgraceful behaviour is always equal opportunities for all. Everyone irrespective of gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age gets the same kidney punch.

He had a Freddie Mercury T shirt on so I assumed he/she was Zoroastrian.
