The amount of money being sprayed around is frightening. At this point in time, we cannot compete, as CW has always stated he will be prudent, and not risk the future of the club. Unfortunately, this means he will be operating on a restricted budget, in comparison to other PL clubs. Like it or not, as regrading new signings, we will have to accept that we are ,"fishing in a different pool". Of all the alleged rumors coming out , are the ones that suggest we are looking at our 3rd and 4th target list's for incoming to us are the most disturbing. I hope and pray CWAK can unearth some gem's, and surprise us all!!!!!

I think this inability to compete is being a bit overblown. It's just Fulham and Villa, really, who are blowing a load of other teams our level out of the water too. Last season, Fulham obviously weren't competing with us, while Villa were looking to use the overseas market, although they did beat us to Jota. This season, both teams have firmly positioned themselves as targeting the same pool of players as us, which is the best players in the Championship - Antonee Robinson, Matty Cash, John Swift, Ollie Watkins, whoever else - and they have a lot of money to spend. It's just the way it is.

love how people say we cant compete wasn't aware people were privy to our clubs finances.

Still surprises me that this news surprises them!

Until we get that owner or investor backing we will continue to do things our way, within our budget.
Hopefully we will manage to keep Wilder here and continue to find players within the budget who can do the job required.

I predict we will always have the lowest budget in this league, regardless who comes up every season!

If truthful I'd sooner us stick to our current policy & have a bunch of players that play for the shirt, if you start paying huge wages you run the risk of the club attracting "big time Charlie's" who care not for the shirt just pay packet. If you look at Arsenal they've got Ozil on 350k sat on his arse getting splinters, he'll do that he'll not shift I don't want players like that.

We have worked too hard to have our league position fucked up by mercenaries who don't give a tinkers cuss.

I get the impression it's CW who won't pay these massively inflated salaries for risk of upsetting the amazing team spirit and bond that the players have as he seems to value this over anything else.

There's absolute no proof that the board didn't look at the total cost of the Robinson transfer and see it as a great deal overall but then we'd have had a reserve left back on nearly £50k a week. There's no way CW would have sanctioned this as you can imagine the effect of the rest of the back line that haven't put a foot wrong in the last couple of years.

Wikipedia....shows our owner has quite a lot more wealth than Burnley owner.

I think it is fairly safe to say that we can’t compete with teams that are bankrolled by billionaire owners. You don’t need to analyse the finances or accounts to make that observation.
but if you'd like to follow the link
you need to look no deeper than that page. I was impressed and shocked, in truth.

They've spent longer in the Prem though, but I would say that Burnley along with West Brom, are the only clubs in the PL that we are likely to have a similar wage structure to.

I might be wrong but i'm sure Burnley's wage bill was something like £80m last season. Not sure we're even anywhere near that level yet.

Can’t compete in the transfer market but can on the pitch !

I guess Burnley are keeping up with the wages but leaves them short for big money signings. We probably still need a few big signings then if stay up for a few years you will find out wage bill will have shot up.

I think some people on this thread are dismissing the benefits of having an absolutely outstanding manager.

Yes Villa and Fulham are chucking a bit of money around but both have bang average managers.

Completely hyperthetical question but would anyone swap CW and his budget for Dean Smith and his budget?

Surely that would mean that giving a manager as good as CW a healthy budget day 50/60 million to spend on 2/3 quality players a season

Do you really think spunking money is an easy path to success??

No you need to have a good manager and scouting we have both

Surely that would mean any Money spent would be spent well and not spunked up the wall
