Has gone completely out of the window for me.

Clough can dress up the result however he wants; Tired legs/injuries, Yeovil playing with no pressure, for contracts etc. but the fact is we're playing a team at the bottom of the league Nige and you go into the game stating how tricky of a game it will be for us. That isn't the right frame of mind to approach the game and simply not good enough.

I'd love to be wrong and see us go up but any other team in the play off spots would give us a hiding over both legs and I wouldn't be surprised.

I think my reservations about Nige are proving to be true. He is a good coach who understands the game well but simply doesn't have the right mentality necessary to take a club forward.

You were hopeful of the play-offs?

I wrote the play-offs off months ago even when we still had a chance of automatic.

Don't want to say 'I told you so' (because anybody who has watched us all season could have seen tonight's result coming), but as I said on Sunday,

And this sums it up for me. We'll go to Yeovil and a defeat would not surprise me. We'll have the usual 'Yeovil had nothing to play for', the normal several changes because, didn't you know, United are the only team who are playing Tuesday/Saturday and getting tired?

We're thirteen points (and a million miles) behind second place for a reason. We are nowhere near a team that is ready for a step up into the Championship. It will be no use 'making it up as we go along' in a higher level - something we seem to have done on too many occasions this season. Thinking 'let's get there and worry about it next season' could easily lead us to the kind of relegation fight that might set us back years.

So, sorry. If it takes another season at this level, so be it. But is anybody optimistic that staggering over the line and going up is a sustainable plan?

Look let's be honest in the league other than the odd game eg Bristol city away or odd half a game eg Oldham .. We've been poor all season . It's been boring at best . All we can hope is that the other teams in the play offs have bad days and we have good ones.

It's squeaky bum time, all will be fine just adds to the excitement, we don't want it to be dull do we.

The only glimmer of hope I give myself is that Swindon will be playing Saturday/Tuesday every week until the end of the season. Hope they get some injuries and/or suspensions. But it's a bad sign when you're banking on the weaknesses of your opponents more than your own strengths. It's that exact sort of negative thinking that seems to be rife at our club at the moment.

OR they have back to back games to get a good run of form together.

You usually make some good points, WHF but this is WTF?

Will Clough be quoting this on Football Heaven tomorrow night?

Look it's bloody miserable. I'm trying my hardest. Point is: Win when it matters and all this will be forgotten.

(That said, plenty of people remember that 8-3 game...)

I think you'll find that the teams who deserve to go up/get into the play offs won't be getting the endless 'knocks' that we seem to get. It's a mental thing. Just as United have played most of the season with their heads down, it's beginning to show. Winners want to get out there and play - twice a week if required.

We've not got enough winners at this club. It starts with Clough and his default position of setting out for a point and anything else is a bonus. Not when you've got a pitiful strike force it isn't. Something that's been obvious all season and still not addressed.

The writing was on the wall when NC brought in that useless lump, Higdon and immediately made him captain v Bristol on the opening day of the season. Something tells me Cotterill has the better grasp of tactics.

It's the manner of the defeat which gives me little hope. How can you turn up with such a bad attitude, considering your manager told you what a tough game it would be. Really is fucking criminal.

we seem to have enough crocks tho

wtf is going on?

Sounds daft but I'm actually more confident of winning the final (if we get there) than beating a team over 2 legs. Unfortunately, you have to beat the team over 2 legs to get to the final. I don't know what it is with the players sometimes, lack of effort? Lack of belief? Complacency? Who knows.

I wouldn't bet against Chesterfield winning the play offs either...

yes teams that lose a game in the run in have never won a play orr
UNLESS YOU WIN EVERY GAME 6'-0 IN THE LAST 4 YOU MIGHT AS WELL NOT BOTHER

Oh hang on Rotherham lost 6-4 at wolves and 1,0 at bramall lane to our juniors
in last 6 last year
how on earth did they win the play offs

The big difference being Wolves went up as Champions and United were 7th or 8th at the time. Yeovil are 24th and already relegated.

That's not the point BTL. Fans are allowed to come on here and discuss the mishaps of tonights embarrasing result and by the sounds of it a complete and utter clusterfuck of a performance.

Not sure how we went to Bristol, to play the league leaders, and won, and then we go to Yeovil, at the foot of the table, and lose, without even scoring a single goal.....

OK, for once i'll get off the fence and join the debate.

Please clarify; do you think this is the kind of performance we should be turning in as we enter the run-in to the playoffs ?

We may not even make the play offs. I can see rochdale getting 10 more points. Means we will need three points as they will have a better goal difference. I see us drawing with Bradford, drawing with orient and losing to Chezzie.

I just hope our inconsistency swings back to good as quick as it swings to bad.

Our best tactic might be to bore the oppposition to death we must be top of the league for that. a win against bradford sat and then chessie and we will forget about this yeovil game. we beat barnsley and luckily beat donny two more results like that and who knows (not bothered if we finish in 6th place) weve got at least a half chance in playoffs
